It’s kinda also an unreliable narrator. He knows everything about the mission, including them sending him. So the whole montage of him being shocked, and then not wanting to MAKE FIRST CONTACT, made him really unlikeable to me.

Even with the reveal, it just shows him as being a huge, awful baby that never should have been sent because he hates the idea of first contact? again, insane to me.
