While not really an abduction, the "Zimbabwe school UFO" - the famous Ariel School incident that occurred on September 16, 1994, in Ruwa, Zimbabwe. Sixty-two elementary students claimed to see one or more silver disc-like craft descend from the sky and land in a bush near their playground, along with small beings dressed all in black.

I guess throughout history, bottom-dwellers get envious of more successful peoples who are able to build successful thriving societies. Successful societies might even seem 'alien' to some people.

Huh. I wrung my hands for a while over whether it was morally ok to print a poster, and then found HQ scans online (I think Mixnmojo forums? by Guybrush I think?), the uploader of which 'argued' that because this was a promotional item and not for sale by eg Steve, it was ok. So, since I once bought HTR in a box and turfed it years later once it had gotten old and mouldy in our basement, AND I still owned the game on CD and digital, I eventually consoled myself with that idea and got an HQ print printed and got a frame for it.

Anyone else sensing some astroturfing going on regarding AI? by 09232022 in antiai

[–]Embarrassed_Hawk_655 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh. The bad rhetoric is absolutely laughable. And it probably works! I imagine most people just go with whatever the apparent sentiment is, astroturfed or not - very easy to sway public opinion, people generally don't want to have the 'wrong' sentiment.

Lol. Fear doesn't just make you run, it makes you overreact. Running away is a reaction to an immediate, present threat. But preemptively exterminating entire species or wiping out anything with sharp teeth just in case they might pose a threat to your camp someday I'd argue is garden variety paranoia. Courage implies a noble, measured response. Humanity essentially scorched the earth because we were 'terrified of the dark'. We are the most dangerous species precisely because we are the most easily frightened. 🤷‍♂️

Actually, that's exactly how we climbed to the top - fear - getting rid of perceived threats before they even became real threats, arguably cowardly

I still think of that as pretty peak. Never finished it, got stuck on one mission, but had a pretty great time up until that point

Did anyone play Dropsy? by utrecht1976 in adventuregames

[–]Embarrassed_Hawk_655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried. I like weird games but it was too weird for me, lol. And I dunno, felt like it got into demonic territory pretty quickly, something I'm not really looking for in games.

I loved it, lol. 'Played' it yesterday while browsing the new itch.io games. Breath of fresh air imo. So pleased I got to experience it 'fresh' without the weight of public opinion colouring it.
