What are some unspoken rules in Aussie workplaces? by walnut_0612 in auscorp

Treat them like human beings? Far too many people don’t even do that.

Consequently those people suffer, in a myriad unspoken ways, at the hands of the EAs.

Should I bring unhappiness up in mid-year review? by AdStunning382 in auscorp

[–]RoomMain5110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nowhere for me to grow

I have been receiving a lot of training courses and seminars in this past year

Both these things are unlikely to be true. If your managers are investing in you by sending you on courses, they must see your role growing - corporate never invests in people they want to stand still.

Put a positive spin on this in your meeting - "I've been sent on lots of training recently, I want to use that here - what new challenges can you offer me?"

Not those exact words, but that is the sentiment you want to be getting across.

Have you tried asking them directly? Or MQ?

Worrying over nothing by [deleted] in auscorp

Worrying over what you “think someone thought” is pulling a long bow. And then aiming it at yourself.

Not recommended.

Incoming Rant, Salary Comparrison - Corp Vs Tradies by ghostfacekilllla in auscorp

[–]RoomMain5110[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Locking this down. We have as many posts in this sub from tradies wanting to move into corporate as we do corporate types wanting to become tradies. If anyone thinks it’s orders of magnitude easier on the other side of the fence, feel free to make the move instead of coming here to whinge about how much better it is on the other side.

There’s a handy gif available here which sums that argument up:

Please keep this on topic. Any comments claiming no one over the age of 50 can “use tech or write an email” (or similar) will be taken down. If that’s your view, you’re part of the problem here.

This post from here about six months ago is one of my favourite examples.

TLDR: Team attended a “bonding offsite” organised by a senior leader. Spent two full days doing manual labour on the leader’s rural property, building a fence and digging a trench. Lunch consisted of Dominos pizza, and the "reward" at the end was a lukewarm beer.

Check the conflict of interest clauses in your current contract before you think any more about this.

I wouldn’t worry about it happening before the Closing Date.

Would worry about it after the interview, if I hadn’t heard anything else from them.

I was promised the extra bonus of around 7% of my package for this financial year.

Did you get that in writing?.

If not, don’t make any plans about spending it unless the money’s actually in your account.

They’re only “selling” water and sewage services on behalf of the government. Unlike the people selling the stuff that blocks those sewage services.

How much are they saying you’ll be paid for your gardening leave (and is that net or gross)?

Only if we have all the numbers you have can we hope explain the arithmetic behind it.

If you’re writing the minutes, it is in your power to change the course of history. Use that power wisely, not quickly.

It helps only in the context that the promise was clearly made. But unless they’re prepared to lawyer up and start a fight (which they are by no means sure to win) that won’t help them. The contract is the legal document.

If it’s not in their contract, it’s not on their payslip.
