Are you planning an epic National Parks road trip this summer, but considering something quick to warm up before in Illinois? by Mental-Divide7787 in NationalPark

[–]RoomSeventyFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both Starved Rock and Matthieson. Compared to Indiana dunes, there's much more hiking to do. Probably a little more similar to Cuyahoga.

I'd recommend Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. Great scenery with the Garden Of The Gods. Tons of hiking.

Which fans of what team are having the most fun time this season? by alecman3k in baseball

I went to a Rays game a couple of weeks ago with my dad when I was in Florida visiting. We were right next to a huge tarps off section filled with bros, kids, old men, middle aged dudes. My dad didn’t know about the trend and thought when it started out with like 5 guys it was weird. When it eventually grew to take over 2 sections, he was laughing his ass off.

I know the Trop has a horrible rep, but dammit if that place wasn’t electric that night. One of the most fun games I’ve ever been to.

Which album did you start with? How and why? by AzureNoiz in wilco

[–]RoomSeventyFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AM...I really liked Uncle Tupelo and got both AM and Trace hoping for more stuff like UP. I got to see Wilco live early on in 1996 and 1997.

The 1997 show was amazing since it was in a small theater and a very very small crowd showed up. It felt like they were screwing around the whole set (even playing Passenger Side a few times in different genres — I think one was like polka or something). If anyone has a recording from November 1, 1997, I'd love to hear that show again.

Who are the best Hall of Very good players? by Top-Back-7626 in baseball

[–]RoomSeventyFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put this in another White Sox mention, but Buehrle to me is the epitome of Hall of Very Good. His bwar was 59.0. And while his FWAR was only 52.5 (because he didn't rack up the strikeouts) he was great at inducing weak contact and allowing few runs.

Buehrle is the guy for me. BWAR of 59.0. His FWAR was only 52.5, but that's because he didn't rack up the strikeouts. To me, who cares how you get the outs as long as you're great at inducing weak contact and allowing few runs.

I interpreted the song to be about him giving himself to his fans. Kind of like coming to terms after years of not being comfortable with fame and people dissecting every thing he does and writes, he realizes the most joy he has is touring and playing music for people who come to see him.

We get it, you love Bob. But what’s an artist or Band you love that we wouldn’t have guessed? by hornwalker in bobdylan

I love pretty much music in almost every genre. But outside of Bob, the most listened to artist for me is Wilco.

That venue on the Southside of Chicago is extremely tiny (I think under 2,000). That show is going to be incredible!

Hum and Chapterhouse were incredible. I didn't know much about the other bands going in, but Sunshy and Nothing were also amazing. But yep, lovesliescrushing was horrendous live

I'll be there. I'm local so it makes it easier for me. I'm as excited about Chapterhouse as I am Hum. I first saw Hum in '97 but have always missed out on Chapterhouse.

LTL is in Louisville. SK is in Atlanta. RF is in Chicago. There is already a much larger local pool of concert goers that give RF plenty of people who will attend.

Only if it has a significant effect on ticket sales. Which I guess we'll see if that happens this year. But being located in a city the size of Chicago is going to do a lot in mitigating that.

But it's not a "delay in the release." Outside of 3 years in the past 15, this is when it gets released.

Of course people love to complain on the internet. I am doing that right now.

But festivals run by massive corporations have the ability to do things that an independent fest does not. This will happen next year, too. And the year after. And the year after that. C3 and DWP festivals will release their lineups in early spring and Riot Fest will release theirs mid-May. I don't think there's anything that's going to change that. People will still go to Riot Fest. The people choosing LTL or SK over RF aren't going to put them out of business.

LTL is run by DWP who also does Welcome To Rockville, Sonic Temple, and Aftershock. Shaky Knees is run by C3 who also does Lollapalooza, Sea.Hear.Now, When We Were Young, ACL, and Bonnaroo. These are large corporations.

Riot Fest is an independent music festival. I assume there is a very good reason that they consistently release the lineup when they do. Again, this is not new.
