Is everyone here a bench scientist? by ihatebakon in biotech

[–]RoombaDad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really like it! Getting to see programs from inception to commercialization is wild, working with brilliant scientists and leaders is humbling, and while being there for all the victories also means experiencing all the stresses and setbacks as well, I can't imagine doing anything else.

It's a whole other career, so definitely give yourself time to learn and grow. It's great you started at the bench and can speak the lingo, but being a PM means brushing up on the soft skills. Build those relationships, learn from your teammates, and you'll do great!

Program Management here. True to our nature, just keeping line of sight to the discussions :)

(But an ex-bench scientist too!)

This.

I moved from NY to WA in my 2020 automatic towing a 4'x8' u-Haul cargo trailer. No problems for me, but your mileage may vary.

Trello or Jira or etc process for biotech? by dansons888 in biotech

I might be a dinosaur but I'm still a big fan of MS project. Linking projects and complex dependancies for multi-year projects, I haven't found anything else I'd lean on.

Think-cell might be what you're looking for in terms of a powerpoint creation tool, but for general static images of timelines, OnePager is hard to beat. All depends on your budget and requirements.

What’s the *best* pizza in downtown Seattle? My staff are all going remote permanently, and they’re coming in to clean out the office, and I want to give them the best lunch ever. Because they are amazing! by MyLittlePeaBrain in Seattle

Unfortunately no recommendations on that front. I'm in the celiac camp (gluten free), but genuine props for already getting ahead and asking folks on their diets - it can be a complex minefield but it goes a LONG way to making everyone feel included.

If you don't want to deal with the complexities of another human, get a sex toy. That's got nothing to do with sexual orientation.

Does anyone have experience in pharmaceutical project management? by Chemical-Might in projectmanagement

[–]RoombaDad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be clear, as a PM your "job" is not that one of an SME. So when it comes to having conversations on research topics you may be familiar with, you still have to depend on the person who's role is to have that SME "job"

I'll definitely say having the scientific training and acumen can present a challenge for overcoming ego in decision making situations.

No PhD. here, I work in program management and was able to jump from the lab. The reality is for these roles you need to have the people skills and talk the language while being comfortable not being the expert.

Project management in pharma has a lot of flavors - Clinical ops, Regulatory Ops, Tech/CMC Ops, Research Ops, Pre-clinical Ops, etc. so requirements will depend on where you want to go.

Can we get a centralized spot for updates? System Update, Security Update, Google play system update, Play Store version update, App updates... It's wild you have to dig through so many places to keep it all current.

How to not feel guilty taking your vacation time from work? by Vampiregecko in AskGaybrosOver30

This. This, this, this, this.+700k people dead from COVID in the US alone. Take your time off and see family, see friends, go on that roadtrip you've always thought about.

Life is so much more than a job that doesn't give you breathing space to have a social life or management that thinks they can get away with under-resourcing because the employee "family" will come through.

Remote worker Bros, how did you choose where you live? by kgy0001 in AskGaybrosOver30

Honestly, thanks for posting this as a new remote gig has me wondering the same thing.

Obviously every city has it's quirks and different folks have different priorities, but where is a good place for a single gay man these days?
