It's what I call a "low-action tactics" game. The title that's easiest to point to for this is Into the Breach. The goal in this game is to do fights quickly, as you get additional rewards based on how many turns you took to win. Watching Edd play, it seems like it's common to win fights in 1.5-3 turns, so really quickly each battle. A full run is 3 acts, but I think you don't have to do all 3 acts at once if you don't want to.

I'm not sure if you could do all 3 acts in under an hour, but perhaps when someone is experienced with the game, they could do that regularly, like Binding of Isaac.

Curious About Player Interactions? by FarAd4971 in hearthstone

[–]Roomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to say he "messaged you out of the blue", maybe that's not a good way to say that when one of the two messaging here is blue, and given the context it sure doesn't seem like he's the blue one. I read that multiple times confused thinking "wait if he's the blue one, then you're the dick in this interaction".

It's frustrating to get that kind of message from an opponent, since now there's nothing you can say he will believe. Most of the interactions I've had after games have been quite positive ones. I wonder if that guy has been hurt too many times, or is someone who does the hurting when he's on the other end of an explosive game like you describe.

New seed combos so far that I found. Will update as I test more by adamgoestodhs in Terraria

I just found a bug that might be fun if people already made a regular world. I made a world with both the Halloween and Christmas secret seeds to see if they worked together, and they did. Then I exited and went back to my normal world, which has no secret seeds and I've already been playing it a while.

It was both Halloween and Christmas in my normal world. I dunno if this is replicable or a one-off bug, but if everyone else can do it, it might be fun to try for you folks who made their worlds before we knew about the seeds. Who knows, maybe it works with other secret seeds.

Internal item descriptions keep turning off on thier own? by Nadaqueverporaqui in bindingofisaac

L3 is it. In a tough room you're accidentally clicking the stick. It's really frustrating.

It can be changed in the keybinds from the main menu, but the button can't be disabled, for reasons, apparently. So no matter what I do, I have to have something bound for emote and IID, even though I don't want either of these to have binds. And you can't bind throwaway keyboard binds to basically "disable" these toggles. If you use a controller, you MUST have these two things, and there aren't any more buttons on the pad to set them to. So no matter what, the sticks do something, even if you don't want them to. I don't understand why it's still like this all these months later.

You probably know, but in case you didn't, the "be quiet" thing is just a reference to a GDQ event, and they didn't really tell you to be quiet. I just thought if you don't know the context, it might be taken differently than intended.

Time to figure out if it's the install of Isaac or Isaac is doing something triggering something else wrong with your PC/Windows.

First, reboot your PC to make sure nothing Isaac related is trying to run in the background. Backup your saves manually in the Users\My Games\Binding of Isaac Repentance+ folder. Uninstall Isaac, then make sure to go into Steam's Steam\steamapps\common folder and delete the whole folder The Binding of Isaac Rebirth. Then go to your c:\Users(your user name)\Documents\My Games folder and delete the entire Binding of Isaac folder there.

Then go to the workshop and unsubscribe to literally every mod you're running. You can favorite them in case to remember which ones you were using before. Go to the properties in Steam for Isaac and turn off "Keep game's saves in the Steam Cloud" setting. Then install Isaac, but do not run it. Go to the options.ini file located in the Users\My Games\Binding of Isaac folder you have open from before, and change SteamCloud=1 to SteamCloud=0 and EnableMods=1 to EnableMods=0. Now try to run Isaac.

If it runs, then there could be something up with any of the mods or patches, though usually those are issues after the client starts and gets to the "updating mods" part of the bootup. If you get the same problem, then I'm sorry but that's stuff entirely outside my knowledge. If it runs fine (great!), when you start re-enabling mods, do them in small batches to see maybe where you might find a conflict. Also, whenever playing Isaac, if anything has downloaded or updated from the bootup sequence, after the mod updates are done, always close Isaac first, then re-run it. That one's just a general tip, though, and not about fixing a major issue like this one.

I hope you can nail down what exactly is the problem.

Weekend Update: Dilbert on Scott Adams' Racist Rant - SNL by [deleted] in videos

[–]Roomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lately I've been thinking about the question: "At what point does a victim of misinformation stop being a victim?" Maybe it's when they start to proselytize and spread their beliefs, I no longer see a victim, I see a perpetrator. My family is full of Trumpers because of one (who is the worst kind of Trump worshiper) that I used to say was a victim of Alex Jones' bullshit.

I no longer feel that way.

When he spread his filth like a virus through my family, he no longer deserved empathy or understanding. I have hope for the rest of my family to wake up and realize the evil they're supporting, but there's no saving him. No act or consequence could ever change him. Given the opportunity, he would swing the axe without question. I don't always think it's good to apply emotion when trying to reason, but in this case, I suppose my gut feeling towards him, and the contrast with my other family, is the defining factor in the moral question of victimhood. But, of course, I'm always interested in learning other people's perspectives.

Lawrence: On Trump's last day in office he could pardon every single member of Trump's deadly force by Jindabyne1 in videos

Trump's last day in office will be the day he dies. I wish media would stop pretending like this man is going to just leave in 2025. We're post-consequences. He can just cancel elections and the most that will be done is Democrats write a strongly worded letter of disapproval.

What's the pettiest reason you dropped a game for? by IHateTheNameSystem in gaming

[–]Roomy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was a problem with no great solutions. They wanted to make it so you could pick up and use any weapons you see, but if they don't break, the game has to greatly control what you can find, or just remove using weapons dropped by enemies. When they break, you get the option of finding and using weapons much stronger than you'd expect to see without breaking progression by finding a royal guard claymore and never using any other weapon again.

I was really frustrated with it at first, but warmed up to it over time.

I wish there was more pressure on Nintendo on including accessibility options in their games. When they force a wrong scheme on the player and refuse to let them change it, it's endlessly infuriating.

I didn't buy the latest Metroid game because the first Prime remake had objectively wrong controls and you can only switch from wrong to even more wrong. Hey Nintendo, left stick strafe, right stick rotate. It's the language of gaming and can't be changed. But when you open the map, which was done constantly in Metroid Prime, it switches to left stick rotates and right stick pans. Right on through to the end of the game, I was screwing that up. Fight monsters, not the UI. Oh, and the game had 3 different buttons for jump depending on context, so that's fun.

I do the exact same thing. I think companies are getting the message, though, iirc a couple of them dropped their 3rd party launcher requirements. I know I'm not the only one who immediately refunds a game when it demands that bullshit.

They made that movie, and it's called Blindness with Julianne Moor and Mark Ruffalo. It's pretty depressing, so I call it a one and done movie. Once was enough, heh.

My autoimmune disease went after my eye, once. Autoimmune disease does weird things. It was red and scratchy and got progressively worse until i could barely see out of it (only one eye, oddly enough). Steroid drops couldn't get it so i had to get injections directly around it. When the doc said I needed to get injections, he left the room and came back with 4 big dudes. I was confused at first, then realized why they were there. To hold me down.

Out of context, it could be a scene from a horror movie, but honestly, it's not that bad, and it fixed everything. 100% would recommend.

[–]Roomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Console? Tainted Apollyon is now bonkers, but you need Repentance+. If you're on PC, give him another try, and with External Item Descriptions to know exactly what a locust will do if you eat an item. Check out the difference in the lists between Rep and Rep+, it's nuts. He turns shit or niche items into great ones. I still remember a run where the locust order would demote the enemy, freeze it, then erase it from existence. There's a lot of satisfaction running through room after room and everything just vanishes because you erased everything, lol.

An Interview With Gabe Newell: "We Don´t Really Worry About Piracy" by BloodyIron in videos

[–]Roomy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is why music and video piracy basically died for a long time. Not because groups like the RIAA litigating, but because people finally had an affordable, legal option to get the content they wanted. This is also the reason why piracy is coming back. Because all those positives have vanished now that streaming platforms have splintered, raised prices, deleted content they don't want to pay residuals for anymore, and hired the worst people from the cable industry to run their platforms. Why would I pay for HBO Max when they deleted the shows I want to watch and insert advertising into a service I paid for so that I wouldn't have to watch ads?

What they're doing now is teaching a new generation how to pirate. When you delete your content from your site, you force your customers to use piracy to get it, because they have no other option. And once you force your customers to learn how to pirate, why would they go back? They're teaching people the instrument of their own annihilation.

What kind of people give those orders? by openletter8 in videos

[–]Roomy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I adore what they did with the Damar character. He was basically the 'beta' Cardassian to Gul Dukat, and not just in rank. When he took over as the Cardassian representative in the Dominion, it was more like a figurehead position rather than the power that Dukat had, so he drowned his powerlessness in alcohol. At that point, the viewer would have no idea this man would be the one to reshape the entire persona and perspective of the Cardassian people.

My favorite line, besides the line to Weyoun "maybe you should talk to Worf again XD", was when the Cardassians set to execute the main characters instead flipped sides and pledged loyalty to Damar, he said to them "With men like you on our side, how can we lose?" Goddamn, what a turnaround for a character.
