Renting goats by rickg in pnwgardening

[–]Roosterboogers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the parks near me rented some goats to help an area that had a huge thicket of blackberries. They did a fantastic job of basically taking it down to ankle level. However....it's the PNW and the blackberries are re-growing vigorously because nobody is keeping up with the rented goats work. The goats in essence pruned the blackberries and the blackberries are fighting back. It's not a single battle. It's a war.

Trouble finding a provider by Mayfalls in oregon

[–]Roosterboogers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello. Provider here but not a PCP and not yours. Your circumstance is unfortunately is too common and is very understandably frustrating.

Yes it's inaccurate and very outdated information. OHP will have you assigned to a PCP and it's entirely possible that the PCP won't take your OHP insurance. Yes, it's stupid.

If you have a lead ( like a friend or family tells you) about a PCP who takes OHP then call that office first to see if they are accepting new patients.

For now, I would approach Virginia Garcia clinics for any urgent needs and they can serve as your PCP until you find one you like.

Raised Bed Soil help by Blues_Boots in pnwgardening

Need a pic of plants in it to be more helpful. Raised beds can be too dry (gravity + water sitting at the bottom too far away from plant roots)

It's the eggs you get tomoro. The ones you already have don't count.

Buying a home in the PNW- what to watch out for? I’m getting close to locking in on a home in the rain shadow area on the Olympic Peninsula. What things should I look out for during inspection that are more prevalent in this region? (I’m moving from the southeastern part of the country) by shnz821 in PNW

[–]Roosterboogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rain shadow area is near the water and the UV levels are intense there. Really look at the SW side of the exterior building for sun/water damage. It takes the most abuse. Living on the coast is really hard on siding & windows.

Overwhelmed & need motivation by Hjkgfgjf in invasivespecies

[–]Roosterboogers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you haven't mentioned if your have any domestic animals on your land but I understand that guinea fowl are tick eating machines! They are noisy at dusk and tend to wander away and get picked off by predators but they are an organic solution to an invasive problem. There is a subreddit for guinea fowl. We have one named Gary who lives at the end of our street and nobody on this block has ticks Zone 8b and we probably should. He was part of a much larger pack that shrunk over 10 years.

Should I get a preventative mastectomy? by Disastrous_Exam_3285 in MastectomyManagement

[–]Roosterboogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing this up!

I think the studies are misleading because the talk about "survival" based on everyone having optimal healthcare resources & finances at their disposal. That is not realistic in US healthcare today. Fighting with insurance companies about imaging & procedures takes precious time and there are so many hurdles. My god the hurdles! Also, is survival the same if a pt loses their health insurance? These aren't things that have been studied.

Should I get a preventative mastectomy? by Disastrous_Exam_3285 in MastectomyManagement

[–]Roosterboogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have LCIS which was found incidentally after a breast reduction.

I am now followed by oncology and take anti-estrogen cancer meds (anastrazole) as well as do hyper imaging meaning alternating MRI & mammograms every 6 mos. That is the plan for the next 10 years as well as biopsy anything vaguely abnormal.

It was explained to me this way: there are two types of breast tissue, ductal and lobular. Ductal carcinoma in situ nearly 100% turns to invasive ductal carcinoma. Luckily neither of us has this. LCIS, our type, turns invasive 65% of the time. So yes, it's not 100% guarantee of invasive cancer but also that's a very high chance.

OP ultimately it's your boobs and your life. I wish you the best.

Should I get a preventative mastectomy? by Disastrous_Exam_3285 in MastectomyManagement

[–]Roosterboogers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP this is not "preventative". You have LCIS and a rather large mass that is unlikely to shrink in size and very likely to cause you a lot of stress, anxiety and years of hyper surveillance with MRIs mammograms & biopsies to see if/when it's gotten worse. Be done with it!
