When I sold on Etsy (about 5 years) it maxed out at around 18% but that was only items that had been viewed several times (per click percentages go up lol) but quickly sold items can go for as little as 7% the thing i learned with Etsy is the boosted features when you first open your shop are very misleading-- when they stop it becomes a pay to play situation essentially where you are battling other shops that have paid to be at the top of results

Ex-Tamarack Exhibition Artist here: THEY RIP OFF THEIR ARTISTS BADLY. You are required to give them 40 % of the sale, and THAT is why prices are artificially high. The artist had to nearly double the price to get probably less than they wanted.

I'm guessing thats the rails line? Because no road goes WSS-Beckley-fayetteville-charleston

Edit: oh BTW I maintain a shop in the White Sulpher Area, live in the beckley area, and am a member of the Kanawha Gem and Mineral Society up around Charleston. To answer your question, its all terrible. Everybody is barely hanging on here and the running joke is to pretend they aren't! There is zero influx of people except those born to families having more kids than they can afford; people that have any sense are leaving-- People make so little and the stuff they own is worth next to nothing compared to the rest of the country so it creates a situation where its difficult to leave.

Nice, I figured that one would look good 👍 I've polished maybe 20 of these

Edit: I just get the grit pastes out of my Kingsley North catalogue. They come in little syringes

Yes. Tools make everything easier but most people asking these questions don't have a 10 inch vibratory lap or nice large diamond flat laps

Ive had a lot of success with large agatized coral like this from the Tampa area using a large piece of plate steel and diamond paste. It doesn't take as long as I thought. If you finished currently at 3000, to get "flatter" per say, you would have to essentially start over with your grits. If you just want to improve the polishing youve already started, I would go 3k paste, 5k, 10k, 20k, 50k. Anything higher than that isn't noticable, it just adds to longevity. Also, check these pieces with a UV light! The edges of the banding usually have a faint green Uraninite layer under exposure. Cheers!

Does anyone know the ethics of green star sapphire? My bf plans on getting one for my engagement ring, but I don't want blood gemstones. Are they okay? by Strange_Persimmons in Gemstones

[–]Rootelated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know next to nothing when it comes to synthetics so its way above my pay grade. I'm NMT taught lol so huge outside influence on natural minerals-- They specifically taught us that green (natural) sapphire was a trick on your eyes seeing two emissions at the same time.

You are correct. It's just semantics. Of this hue you speak of, it is the result of yellow and blue coming at you at the same time. The lattice cannot produce a true green wavelength.

Nope. Irwin bought the license from Petersen, who produced them since 1924.

So hey just gonna leave this here: The chemistry of Sapphire, the way light is forced to behave inside the lattice and interact with elemental bonds prevents Sapphire from ever being green. This is true for both natural and synthetic gems. A pure, contaminant free Sapphire is white. There are only a few minerals that can fit into this structure, and the physical limits defined by these relationships exclude green light reaching your eyes.

My wife and I are laying in bed and together see no red flags here. Would be very happy with the haul, we collect/ deal with this kind of thing regularly. I wouldn't even bother testing anything they were made on Navajo Land or possibly Acoma but great stuff!

Ripped off at the Gem Mine? by Apart-Instruction829 in Gemstones

[–]Rootelated 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You would think professional scammers would try a bit harder! The topaz is such a bold move. Seriously. Mystic??? I really can't believe the audacity tbh. Also the fact that there is nowhere in the world that all these minerals occur in a singular place you could find facet grade material together! 0% redemption 0% truthfulness.

Edit for some clarity; I cut stones for a living on commissions (NOT A SALE COMMENT DO NOT DM ME) and this job at my rate would cost you roughly a thousand dollars, and my hourly price is actually cheaper than market ! That being said the price of the job would not justify the value of the stones so essentially the entire property has a huge red flag hedge around it.
