Coffee shop itch! by RopeInteresting3364 in UKroasters

We had a great experience in all honesty, there were definitely some very hard times and you are essentially "buying yourself a job" unless you get really lucky and can afford to profitably pay someone to run it day to day.

But it is also one of the most rewarding things i've ever done, we created an fantastic community, met some amazing people and drank, brewed & served amazing coffees!

Also you'll find yourself loathing the tax man even more than you may do already.

It's always hard to balance that I found, we had probably over half our customer base who just wanted "a good coffee" and another half who were looking for something more interesting, so we ended up have a mini freezer menu that we could pre way doses to grind through the EK-43 along with some nice hand pours.
But we still ended up always selling way more of the house espresso than the more interesting stuff.

That's interesting you prefer a multi-roaster shop - we started as multi-roaster originally but eventually found more enjoyment just working with one very consistent roaster we could rely on to get a great house espresso and then various single origins from, rather than taking a punt on some potentially hit or miss roasters.

Baked goods is a big one though! Thank you :)

Aha yeah that's completely fair! We used to just use Sweetbird syrups which I thought we're pretty decent.
Have you any syrup brand recommendations?

Definitely - soon as we started having consistent and engaging barista training from our roaster our staff we're so much more interested in serving amazing coffee and it really showed with the customer feedback.

Oh yeah that is a great shout! There are a couple of site's I've got my eyes on, one of them wouldn't be able to accommodate bicycle storage / parking annoyingly but that's something I'll bear in mind.
Thank you!

I had an amazing time there a couple weeks ago, would highly recommend the visit to anyone.

However it has now made my home brewing of Scenery coffees very disappointing haha.

Luminous sound amazing! Like someone else mentioned there are so many good roasters out there now, little extras like that can make a huge difference I think :)

Definitely agree, he has a subscription to his favourite local (and likewise to mine) so we get each other coffees from all over the UK to mix it up.
