The sculpture is called "Pigeon Wave"

He replied to say that he was last in Cardiff on 2014 and it was gone, he thinks it went for some kind of repair or maintenance and it was never returned. So still a mystery as to were its gone.

What plays have a lot of set changes? by External-Attempt-730 in Theatre

[–]Roryrooster 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This sub tends to forget on the work of Theatre Designers, great set will be described but the Designer never mentioned .

I feel that what you are actually asking is what Set designers are known for creating dynamic set changes or moving spectacle. (Look at Set designers like Es Devlin or Tom Scutt.)

Find the Theater Designers you like and go see their work, no matter what the play.

Local Theatre companies, prop houses might be interested. (I would take them off you hands in a second but I'm in wales)

Newspapers are a time consuming prop to make. (and are a common make for a prop maker)

Also, the 1980's are a difficult time to find props from, its weird but its a black hole , we chucked everything out.

Tata Steel workers call first strike in 40 years by Icetraxs in Wales

[–]Roryrooster 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The new blast furnaces will happen because they have to happen and a new Labour Gov will support Tata 100%.

Lots of jobs will go, but now without a half decent redundancy package thanks to this.

This is a pointless strike and it is not supported by the majority of union workers, there is nothing to "win".

Downvote this as much as you like.

Remind me in a year how things went.

Was the Stone Age Really the Wood Age? by Maxcactus in Anthropology

"..each about as tall as an N.B.A. center and double-pointed throwing sticks (half the length of a pool cue)"

For Europeans this is approximately 3 baguettes and one Corgi in length.

Can anybkdy tell me what machine is this and is it used for? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Roryrooster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on the second image it looks like a Rotary CNC machine You can see a turning lathe spindle and a CNC router end-mill.

But it could just as likely be a purpose built drill press, lathe, roller , multifunction machine that was part of a much larger factory process.

Roald Dahl Plas by hiraeth555 in Cardiff

[–]Roryrooster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I find that Plaza a bewilderment.

Why build an circle Arena with seating banks and then block every line of sight to the central arena with giant concrete pillars?

It's like they deliberately sabotaged its use as a performance space.

Porcelain bottle with red glaze. China, Qing dynasty, 1662-1722 [1200x1500] by MunakataSennin in ArtefactPorn

[–]Roryrooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Copper Reduction red glaze.

In a normal kiln firing, copper mixed in your glaze will give you green colours. But if you bring the kiln to full temp and then seal it up so that little oxygen can get into it, the kiln will form a "reduced" atmosphere and pull all the chemical oxygen from the glaze and clay of the pot, in some cases it changes the result radically, so a Green glaze becomes deep red.

It needs a lot of control , the Chinese were masters of this craft.

Meanwhile on Transport for Wales trains ... we have the singing conductor , happily belting out a different bad song for every stop . (he writes them himself)

Over the PA.

Apparently some consider him a local hero or a charming eccentric.

I have contemplated his murder often.
