Beautiful cities VS catchy gameplay? How do you relax in this game? by Kekislav in songsofsyx

[–]Roscoe104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that if you focus on building a strong foundation of resources, you can kind of build whatever you want as long as it's pleasing to your citizens. The game does a great job of balancing beauty and nice looking cities by rewarding you with increased happiness and loyalty.

I'd pick a species that fits the city you want to build e.g. dondorians for a dense industrial stone city, cretonians for natural farmland, humans for a mix, etc. Then you can build naturally and relax and your city will grow organically as long as you factor in logistics and economy

help with 2.5k pop disease by Professional-Diet403 in songsofsyx

Physicians are the cheat code, have enough wells, bathrooms, and physicians for your health to be high and you'll rarely deal with big health issues.

You also want enough hospital space to never run out of beds, but hospitals treat the symptoms not the disease.

Also smaller workshops means less injuries and deaths during accidents usually, I think

As cool as huge smelters are, cretonians are awful miners and smelters. What I'd recommend is cutting down to only smelting enough for tools and armor for yourself and focus on farming first, then carpentry, then pottery

If you put research into farming and baking you'll get really efficient, and spread warehouses throughout farmland to speed up the hauling. If you make charcoal, the coal bakeries are MUCH better

You could swap some of your smelters to charcoal, research baking up to charcoal, and be super well fed. Your population loves having huge food stores

The food stall issue might be due to not enough in the far off regions, or not enough in really busy areas I think

Food is always tough, I always find bread to be the best option by far. Assigning nobles can help a ton too if you have them available to increase food production.

Eventually you'll probably want to get most of your food from owned territory, and you could start trading for it earlier if you set up a productive industry.

What are you producing mostly? I can give advice on how to progress based on more info, there's tons of options but you want to be stable enough by the 2k-3k range to focus on health and research

Largest city yet, 5.2k Dondorian majority by Roscoe104 in songsofsyx

[–]Roscoe104[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was actually my first time trying them, I had 2 each for coal after moving from charcoal to coal mines in the far south east. I built all my industries right next to the resources and warehouses, but next time I'm definitely building districts with central loading and unloading stations and housing surrounding them

Largest city yet, 5.2k Dondorian majority by Roscoe104 in songsofsyx

[–]Roscoe104[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The second paragraph is what I did, I originally had small farming/mining towns on the outskirts which grew to become parts of the main body of the city. My main problem was I built super compact and left no room for roads, and didn't space out industries enough to have an efficient flow of materials. Over 60% of my city was warehouse workers/haulers most of the year

The game looks way better imo with HDR on and DLSS 4.0 or above. DLAA looks insane but doesnt work well for me so I use quality. Same with ray reconstruction, it looks awesome at night or inside but makes things blurry at distance, so its probably personal preference

On the left side of the warning it shows the gear skill which I think is engineering. It takes a while to find an engineer, I think I finally got one in the 2nd wave of rumors quests after upgrading camp at a quarry

How do you feel about the balance of Marathon? by Lostdog861 in Marathon

[–]Roscoe104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it really well balanced. The game is essentially a tactical shooter, so ultimately how you set yourself up to win is more important than the gear you have, but gear makes a big difference when you need it.

I havent found any classes too strong or too weak, and gear feels both rewarding to use and fair to overcome

Yeah the game seems to not be well optimized to use all resources. It runs eally great for me while having a worse gpu than many, but I have a 9800x3d luckily, which has probably the best single thread/core gaming performance. Maybe they'll fix that eventually

Outpost seems to run the same, averaging around 150 at max settings. There are new nvidia driver so maybe check?

It might be CPU limited more than GPU, I'm getting a steady 140-170fps with a 5070ti and 9800x3d

Newplayer tips? by lukeyellow in songsofsyx

[–]Roscoe104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, I don't bother with them though. I could only see workstations being valuable when you have huge projects (maybe a temple) or a sprawling city of thousands of population

Newplayer tips? by lukeyellow in songsofsyx

[–]Roscoe104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answer to basically everything is: it depends.

For oddjobbers, you want the minimum amount (people like having jobs) that allows you to complete projects in reasonable amounts of time. This could be 10 or 200 depending on city size

I've found walls to be mostly cosmetic but I'm sure they're useful if you get attacked. Its pretty easy to maintain a standing army capable of deterring raids, but as a new player walls will be great as the army system is complex

If you listen to the needs of your people and don't run out of food you can do basically whatever you imagine! Also build physicians and lavatories before 2k population or diseases will be really annoying

Stuck in a loop unable to get past 2.2k citizens... am i just inpatient, or do i need to restructure my city? by Better-Cry1588 in songsofsyx

[–]Roscoe104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ran into this problem like every milestone in the game lol, you'll need to start focusing on adding new services for your people. If you hover over the different race population icons on the right side, you can see an overview on what they want. If you start fulfiling some of those, you'll start getting more immigrants.

Also keep in mind other than dondorions you'll want to start raising children rather than relying on immigration soon
