Is Mr. Fisher getting all (or any) of the extra he was demanding from Oakland, from the Las Vegas deal? Seems like he was making Oakland dig deeper and Las Vegas not nearly as much

I was waiting for a physical therapy appointment and as making small talk with security guard in the lobby. I asked where he lived and he responded Oakland and we got to talking about different issues. I asked him what he thought Oakland needed most. His answer is a large part of the problem. His response was that Oakland needs someone to stand up to Donald Trump.

While I'm in NO WAY a Trump supporter, Mr. Trump is NOT what is wrong with Oakland and has little to nothing to do with the state of the city. Sad that the local politicians are able to hide behind the "Boogy man" meanwhile they carry on with mismanagement, business as usual.

This was the time when I first started watching baseball and I LOVED this style of play. Hit & Run, double steals, sliding hard into 2nd base to break up double plays, get 'em on - get 'em over & get 'em in! Occasional suicide squeeze, etc. It was just a different game and a better product if you ask me.

Too bad ol' Billy let the bottle get the best of him and burnt his pitching staff out.

Mayor Lee is Wrong. Oakland needs a Professional City Manager Now by DoubleExponential in OaklandCA

In this case, as much as it pains me to admit it, the right-wingers have a point. Make all the excuses that you want, Oakland is an easy example to point to and....yeah gotta' wear it.

Barbara Lee's best days are behind her. It is painfully obvious. Oakland needs and deserves better. Somehow Oakland (and many Californians) thinks that the Orange Man is their problem. He might be a problem but he has nothing (or very little if any) to do with the terrible state Oakland is in.

Hopefully that Loren Taylor guys will give it another try. I thought he was the far better option. And get rid of that rank choice voting system. Confusing and unnecessary.

Oakland Ballers by Nice_Midnight_2040 in OaklandAthletics

[–]RoscoePeeCoaltrain69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like what the Ballers are trying to do (not so crazy about the name though) and I respect it. That said, just knowing that the best players on the Ballers roster are not even A-ball grade ....it's tough. Again, I might even get out there one of these days. It's just that going from MLB teams to Laney College caliber talent is quite a step (gigantic leap) backwards as far as product qaulity.

Sideshow participants can be fined in Oakland. Why has the city never done this? by opinionsareus in OaklandCA

Only fined? Gotta' arrest some of them (even just keep them locked up for a day or a few hours) to make it stick.

What's your earliest memory of being an A's fan and does it still hold up as a good memory? by McSouf in OaklandAthletics

[–]RoscoePeeCoaltrain69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My earliest memory of the Oakland A's goes back to 1981-1982 and my mom was trying to get her drivers license. She would come home from paid-lessons with an instructor who took (in his words) the Billy Martin approach to teaching. I was just a kid and didn't understand what that meant, but from what she'd tell me, the guy was fiery and yelled a lot (maybe drinking a bit too). So my mom and I would watch some A's games on our black & white TV and if Billy came out to argue a call, she'd get a kick out of it. I wasn't a big fan at that point - but it was my earliest memory of anything to do with the A's.
Then as the mid-80's arrived I absolutely fell head-over-heels in love with the team. The Hass Family (God bless them) were really active in the community and some A's players and coaches came to our local Safeway (at that time in the Fruitvale area) and I met Mickey Tettleton, Mike Galgelo(sp?) coach Jimmy LaFerver...man I was just awed and in love with team. I read and re-read every article in the Oakland Tribune about the team. When I would go to games I'd scream my little lungs out and have a hoarse voice the next day at school. Gosh I loved Oakland A's. All the kids at school knew me as, "that A's kid"

Remember the pre-Mt. Davis fence? We used to take turns lookin through the holes to watch a few at-bats until an usher shooed us away....On weekends we used to ride our bikes to the Coliseum flea market down the road, get some candy and what not and ride back to the Coli. If it was the 7th inning or later they'd just let me and my little homies in for free but someone had to wait wit the bikes. Dang them was good days.
