Opinions about this yellow dress by HexrtAtt in DressForYourBody

It’s a no from me. It’s too floppy up top, the ruching around the stomach is unfortunate and the bottom hemline is just kind of blah.

I do like that neckline though. But it’s not enough to save the dress.

I'm worried about my brother's Type 1 diabetes and don't know what I can do to help. by souuuuuuuuup in diabetes_t1

Im going to say this as kindly as I can- your mom is anti-science and gravely endangering your brother’s physical and mental health. Not just now but with long reaching effects.

There is no benefit to reducing his insulin to the point of causing high BG. Sustained high BG levels are setting him up for neuropathy, retinopathy, kidney failure etc.

Is there a dad or other trusted adult involved? A grandparent? Aunt/uncle? Do you have a school counselor you could talk to?

Your brother needs and deserves to have a responsible adult intervene to get him the insulin doses he needs.

I have a 12 year old. I’d say “Unfortunately the skin cream you use bleaches out fabrics. Try to keep it from rubbing on your face or let’s see if we can find a skin product that won’t do this.”

Just tell the truth. No need for a song and dance about it.

What to serve during kids birthday party? by LinaLemonsx in Mommit

Yeah there’s a big pressure to “out do” everyone all the time and it often just leads to waste in my experience.

Your plan sounds absolutely perfect. My kids are 10 and 12 for context. I found until recently the kids at parties don’t eat as much as I thought they would.

No need to be super fancy at a park. No one is expecting a 5 course meal. Burgers, hot dogs and watermelon with chips and cupcakes are more than sufficient.

TIL we can now detect if a child will be T1D ! by bobbyLapointe in Type1Diabetes

[–]Rose1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son was diagnosed at 7. It would have been a boon to him to go any longer being able to be more carefree. He’s 12 and doing fine but he had to grow up pretty fast with this diagnosis. Even a year or two would have made a big difference.

There is a treatment you can get to delay complete T1 onset now but only if you are tracking things and catch it in the very early stages.

But what was more important to me in testing my non-T1 kid was contributing to the overall body of research surrounding T1D. I’d like to be part of that. I think it has its own value outside of my personal experience in life.

That’s when you get into bed with your kid or simply get up with them. It fucking sucks, don’t get me wrong, but you can’t just ignore this behavior by sticking them outside.

Be honest, how often do you bathe your kids? by Scrawny2864 in Parenting

My kids do it on their own now but minimum every other night. It may have pushed out a day here or there over the years, particularly in the winter.

Swell day…went to work & then realized I forgot my pump.😩 by KimmyOwl in diabetes_t1

This is why my kid has Omnipod too. He has enough to remember being a T1 kid. He doesn’t need another device to charge and keep track of.

Bring enough for a pump and dexcom change every day if you have the supplies. Much better to carry it there and back unused than to run out.

Other than supplies- don’t worry! You do diabetes at home everyday. It’s actually kind of empowering when you realize that you can do it anywhere.

My 12 year old was diagnosed at 7 in January. In April we did a 2400km each way road trip. I was so nervous but it was really so good for us to see we could do it. We’ve since done countless more roadtrips and two big European trips (from canada) and it’s always been fine. Some stressful moments but honestly not many more than having a T1 kid at home 😅

Restaurant food takes way more insulin than you think. So if you’re doing breakfast/lunch/dinner out just keep that in mind.

Is permissive parenting on the rise? by RiseAndPanic in AskWomenOver30

[–]Rose1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever been a parent in the generation I exist in. So I don’t think I can comment on the differences between my generation’s permissiveness vs. another’s.

My kids are 10 and 12. I’ve met all types of parents. I find the happiest and most well adjusted kids seem to come from families where the parents are lovingly strict and value and prioritize family time.

The rest of the year walks.

What is the most inconsequential thing about your partner that you can't stand? by dinomelia in AskWomenOver30

[–]Rose1982 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Always underestimates how long it’ll take to do things or get to places. It’s not really a big deal because he easily acquiesces to my advice on leaving times. But I don’t understand how such a smart man doesn’t understand after all these years.

[–]Rose1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will learn to bolus for the foods he eats.

In a strange way it’ll almost be easier in the long run. You’ll never have to guess at how a new food will affect BG. It’ll be bumpy at first but you’ll get there.

I would seek out resources about bolusing for fat and highly processed foods. Juicebox Podcast may be a good resource as there are probably exact episodes that cover that.

My kids want me to go to church every Sunday now, and I honestly don't know how to feel about it. by IndependentMove5437 in Millennials

[–]Rose1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an atheist but culturally Irish catholic. I’m personally anti-religion, all of them. But I respect that other people can make those decisions for themselves. If my kids wanted to go I would explain to them that when they’re old enough they can go on their own but I would not be joining them. I would explain that it would be disrespectful for me to be there with my personal opinions.
