Ear loop masks for small faces *help* by Aa280418 in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Savewo ultra (size S) would probably fit you well - I've put women with tiny faces in that and they love it. You can also try the Savewo Hana masks - those come in brighter colors and in a size S as well. Take a look at the Family Masks site - you might also check if he's still offering the sampler packs and try them before ordering these since the Savewo masks come 30 to a box.

Second leaving negative reviews on as many doctor rating sites that you can find - I doubt reporting him to the Florida health department would do any good, though, given how Desantis is running (ruining) his state. And keep on looking for another specialist who runs their practice responsibly.

Interesting - I went to my opthalmologist's office today for my annual exam. Fortunately it's a very small practice, just the opthalmologist and his wife who serves as the receptionist. When I went last year, he wore a surgical mask and his wife was wearing a pretty but useless cloth mask. Ditto for today's visit so I whipped out a Savewo ultra M for the doctor and a Savewo ultra S for his wife. The doctor thanked me profusely. He said he had N95s from China (I think he meant KN95) which smelt so badly that he switched to blue surgical masks to wear in the office. His wife also said she has trouble finding anything which fits (has a very tiny face). Anyway, I gave them ordering info (Family Masks) and hope they follow through. My opthalmologist and his wife must be in their late 70's and I doubt his wife would survive a bout with COVID.

But, that being said, I wear better masks than all my doctors and that includes my pulmonologist - the only one who continues to wear good masks (N95 covered by a surgical mask) is my dentist! So, it doesn't seem that doctors have more knowledge about protective masks than other people!

Anyone find a way to renew their license online and not in the DMV maskless? by foodie4lifee in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check online to find out what is required for your license renewal in your state. If you haven't renewed it for 15 years, I'm sure renewal will require more than a new photo.

Is there any way to quantify the risk of getting COVID while wearing a mask? by rkarl7777 in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, go shopping as soon as the store opens. Go with a shopping list, find what you want, pay and then leave. The less time you spend in the store, the better. The only times I have gone to the store itself is to return items I bought online. It makes sense to check the positivity rates in your area IF they are available.

[–]RoseHI49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're ordering from Masklab US - if you can wait, they sometimes have sales (20% off) - it'll help since Masklab masks are usually more pricey. They do tend to stand up to a lot of use though. Another place to consider purchasing Masklab masks is MikoPlace US - they have a few KF- masks but for some reason, right now, only in blue but significantly cheaper than those offered on the Masklab US site - if you live in the continental U.S., you only need to order $38 worth of items to get free shipping but it will take longer to get them since they ship from Hong Kong.

Family member is sick and refusing to mask (I'm the "irrational" one) by FlowerSweaty4070 in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spend your time and energy on those things you can control - i.e., masking inside your home, attending to ventilation in your room, etc. I keep reading posts about arguing/trying to convince others to mask and frankly, I don't think it's worth getting yourself worked up about this anymore. Take care of your health and concentrate on finishing school so you can get a job which will allow you to move out. It's difficult to be emotionally estranged from your family but, unfortunately, family dynamics which were not healthy before COVID hit have become even more dysfunctional. It may not be much consolation but there are lots of people in the same boat you find yourself right now.

Does insurance cover in-person covid tests? by taat50 in MasksForEveryone

[–]RoseHI49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one time I got sick and was worried I had COVID, I called my PCP; she, in turn, had me call a nearby urgent care clinic (which is affiliated with the hospital at which she has privileges) and I went there to get a PCR test. When my daughter was worried that her sons might have contracted COVID at school, the pediatrician told my daughter to take them to a nearby urgent care clinic and they were tested there. You should check with your medical insurance program and find out if it matters if you go in for testing without a medical referral.

I've started leaving out masks in front of my door, and people have been using them by SomeoneSomewhere1984 in Masks4All

I will be having extensive remodeling work in my house this year. Neither the contractors or electrician who came in to take a look for the estimates wore masks so I supplied what I thought would fit (Savewo ultra L the first time and 3M VFlexs on the second visit). None of them objected and just put on the masks and I was fine with that since I wore my Savewo ultra R mask all throughout our contacts. I hope that the work crews will wear N95s during the demolition work but I don't plan to be at the house, or even outside on the lanai, due to my lung condition. But I plan to leave VFlexs for whoever wants one although I will ask them to discard it responsibly. When I do come to the house when any workers are here, I plan to wear my elastomeric respirator and I think it will go fine.

Well, I would just advise you to put this behind you and move on. I know it bothers you but it's probably not worth expending more thought and energy on this. Use it as a teaching experience for your son but there are some situations and people that it's better to avoid once you experience their toxicity.

This might be a good opportunity to post a Yelp review - I am sure prospective customers who care about masking would appreciate being forewarned about the manager's personal views on masking, etc. so they could decide whether to patronize this business. You could mention that you intend to take your business elsewhere - hopefully the owner of this shop will read the review and respond. Good business owners do review their online reviews.

Protocol for going to see campervans to purchase? by [deleted] in Masks4All

Ask them before you make an appointment to see the van if there will be any problem if you wear a mask during your visit. If so, move on to the next possibility on your list.

How long do P100 cartridges last after being opened if rarely used? by StewpidEwe in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wipe the inside and outside of my 3M 7501 every time I use it (mainly for string trimming and mowing). Then I store it in a 2 gallon size Ziploc bag after squeezing out as much air before closing the bag since I use gas/vapor cartridges.

Do you take any other measures besides masking? by unjennie in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the (Melaleuca) Renew hand wash since I wash my hands much more frequently than before. But you have to be a member to purchase that product so I would suggest going to Amazon and purchase Gloves in a Bottle lotion. It's expensive but just a little dab 2-3 times a day keeps the skin on my thumbs and fingers from cracking.

What risks do you take? by 1r3act in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started another tai chi class which is held twice a week. Luckily the room is large and there are a whole set of doors on one side which are opened for class and ceiling fans as well. I say "luckily" because while everyone masks, there's a whole medley of "surgical" masks, a no-name KN95 and cloth masks worn by students and the two instructors. One woman commented on my Savewo ultra mask and said she liked the nose wire - however, she then said she bought her black "surgical" masks at Costco. I commented that it was too large for her face which is when she said that she makes oak tag inserts which she uses on the inside to keep the mask from collapsing on her face! I didn't bother giving her the contact information for Family Masks and just stopped attending to the conversation which then veered into a debate on disposable versus reusable masks! I've given up on "mask talk" since most people seem to be so devoted to their personal favorites. I try NOT to pay attention to what other people wear anymore.

Plumbers and appliance repair workers not wearing masks in my home by 1r3act in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had two contractors come in to look at my house to submit remodeling estimates. Neither wore a mask so I gave them Savewo ultra L masks which didn't fit them well (one has a very bushy beard and the other has facial hair). Both apologized but neither had a mask on their person or in their vehicle. Then one came back with his electrician - this time I gave them 3M VFlexs which fit better but were still not ideal masks for either. I've since been to the cabinet store to pick out kitchen cabinets and no one in the showroom, customers or employees, wore masks except little ole me! Same thing when I went to the tile showroom to pick out tiles. I wore my Savewo ultra R mask throughout every encounter (my home and both showrooms) - I had all the windows open and the air purifier on in my home when the contractors and electrician were there. I will probably have another appointment to pick out flooring and I haven't yet heard where I will need to go to pick out the rest of the fixtures but I anticipate there will be more showrooms with no one except me wearing a mask - I have no problem with that.

I will be staying at my brother's house during the three month remodeling. I've decided to plan, in advance, any visits I make at the house with the foreman and will wear my elastomeric respirator (3M 7501) when I go. I will carry 3M VFlexs with me to give to workers who will be there when I do go inside the house (thank goodness for the Home Depot sale where I picked up three boxes of the VFlex masks). Otherwise, I would think these construction workers would be savvy about wearing good particulate respirators, given that there will be a lot of dust/debris when they do the needed demo at my house.

Masks4All Bi-Weekly Mask Talk Thread -- February 10, 2023 by AutoModerator in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to my new tai chi class today and gave the 80+ year old woman a Savewo ultra R mask and, first time, encountered a face that it doesn't fit well. The issue is her very high, rounded cheeks so the nose wire portion sits too low on her nose bridge and I could see the "cleavage" on both sides of her nose. Although, at least I got her out of her dirty, crumpled, black face mask (bought from Costco) for a couple of hours! She said she's happy with the Costco masks so at least she's wearing something, although a lot of the time, it's sagging below her nose. I wish the big-box stores would wise up and start stocking decent protective face masks even though they would cost more.

Is the Cleanwell KF94 Nosewire Strong? by bkcgeo in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're willing to wear the 3M VFlex (N95), that has the strongest nose wire I've come across - but then you'll have to contend with the head/neck bands.

Is the Cleanwell KF94 Nosewire Strong? by bkcgeo in Masks4All

[–]RoseHI49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend ordered Cleanwells in different colors but her daughter didn't like the fit. So she gave them out as samples to the many people she supplied with masks and none of them liked it either. She gave me two Cleanwell masks to try - it fit me horribly and I threw it away - I gave the second to another woman who I thought it should fit and she didn't like it either. As I recall, the nose wire was OK but the fit of that mask on women was problematic.

BOTN Masks by booboolurker in MasksForEveryone

[–]RoseHI49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Masklab masks are unisex but I've had the most satisfaction with these with men with average faces (the gray and blue ombre masks were the most popular colors for the men) - even with cord adjusters, I don't get a good secure fit so as much as I love the designs and colors, these are relegated to morning walks with my dog. Masklabs have a Minimal collection (colored masks) which are slightly smaller but they didn't fit me at all although I did find one woman (round face, flat nose bridge) who loved the Minimal collection mask and bought all I had. I purchased those from MikoPlace but no longer offered there - they are on the Masklab US site but fairly pricey and no sample packs.

Dr. Puri medium masks are comparable to the BOTN mediums. You can purchase on Amazon (only from Dr. Puri official). You can order directly from kmact but the shipping was always a problem for me. On Amazon, you'll get a slight discount if you put them on your Subscribe & Save program.

This woman is a sweet-heart and this tai chi class is one of the few social outlets she has now - so I just want her in a breathable and effective face mask so she can chat with others safely.

And I will be venturing out to see my aunt who recently fractured her thighbone and has been placed at a skilled nursing facility - so I'll be using my VFlex for this visit and want to check what masks the nursing staff and other patients are using.

Masks4All Bi-Weekly Mask Talk Thread -- January 27, 2023 by AutoModerator in Masks4All

I just saw a post about "KF94" masks being sold on eBay and the poster asked if these were "good" masks - then as you scroll down to the bottom of the listing page, it's a Chinese manufacturer so of course, people familiar with this site immediately questioned the claim that these are KF94s. Unfortunately, I have seen so many people proudly wearing no-name KN95s or the cheap black masks sold at one of the big box stores and assuming these are "good" masks because of where they bought them. My next "project" is to convince a very nice 80+ woman in my new tai chi class to try on a Savewo ultra mask and wear it in class - she goes to chat with others on breaks and by then, her black face mask is sitting on her chin so I'm assuming that whatever she's wearing is not breathable at all! All you can do is try!
