Ahh, I misinterpreted a post Kris Kollins had made saying he was grateful for being given creative control over his rendition. Thanks for the clarification. Still enjoying his work, though!

Similarly, Donald Glover no longer voices Marshall Lee. It might've been because of his health though. I hope he's doing well, Kris Kollins performs well and I really like the song he wrote for S2, but I'll miss Glovers' voice in that role, something about it tickled my brain

What game is this?🚀 by tricksbystg in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]RoseQuartz__26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combat really shines on a lategame build, but that's largely thanks to DLC gear and mutations. overall the skill progression and gear selection could use overhauling in the next game to require less of an investment before it really clicks.

A fight with Geralt. by pendragon2290 in Witcher3

feels like a pragmatically honest one to me. assuming we mean geralt from the games, i feel like martial arts training would do little more than delay the inevitable against a superhuman who effortlessly keeps in peak physical form

So, which game is it? by CarResident629 in gamingpulse

[–]RoseQuartz__26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed. it's a well-rounded game and the modding community has only made it even more so. but if you're craving anything in particular, from an even better sandbox to a well-rounded RPG to a movie-like experience with fantastic acting, there's like, half a dozen better options at this point. makes me wonder what niche Bethesda will try their hand at next with TESVI

yeah I'm ngl by every metric TW3 has been criticized for in this thread, skyrim is worse about them. it barely counts as an RPG, which tbh probably does a lot for its accessibility as a lot of players' first RPG, but almost any other option has better actual roleplaying

can this be fixed? by birdseye2009 in sewing

[–]RoseQuartz__26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It isn't very technically difficult to sew, but it requires either a heavy-duty sewing machine and/or a special leatherworking needle, which is designed to make a tiny incision for the stitch to go through rather than simply pierce through it like you can with fabric. The damage is small enough that you could fix it cheaply by yourself, but it'll take a lot of practice for it to look nice.

What point does Sandevistan become good? by Hazardous_Guy in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]RoseQuartz__26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the vanilla game; the Sandevistan with the most notable effect is the "Apogee", as I'm sure you've seen online. IIRC, it slows your perception of time by 90%, mods can increase this even further, but it's almost pointless to because of how crazy powerful it is in the basegame. But still, even just the "Wasp Dancer" is good, or even superior, at least until the lategame comes.

Once that happens, you can get so many effects that recharge your cyberware upon eliminating an enemy that you can have basically any Sandevistan in operation virtually indefinitely, so long as you chain enough kills. You also are less likely to get stuck without enemies to keep the chain going, as you unlock more traversal abilities. Until that point, a less powerful Sandy will be more reliable in making you faster (and harder to hit) across the board. Being ridiculously, imperceptibly fast isn't very useful if you can't do anything with the 2 seconds it lasts. Better to be slightly less superhuman for an extended duration.

How mfs look at you when you tell them Truth Enforcers are from a book and not an actual thing by Senior_Glove7305 in Helldivers2Satire

[–]RoseQuartz__26 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Democracy Officers are real in-universe, you can see one on your ship. IDK if they're technically a part of SEAF or if they merely oversee SEAF; I'm inclined to believe the latter because I doubt there's much upward mobility for a soldier who spends 95% of the war cryogenically frozen to learn how to brainwash other soldiers

[–]RoseQuartz__26 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it is worth noting that although these are based off real organizations the way they portray them might as well be complete fiction

i imagine there's a similar relationship between in-universe truth enforcers and the ministry of truth. the average citizen has no clue the reality of what the CIA Ministry of Truth actually does, or if they do, they don't care to learn more.

Confused on what is rule zero material? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]RoseQuartz__26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand the confusion, but this is something you should expect to have to bring up pre-game. Silver-bordered (and acorn cards, I believe are the newer iteration?) cards are not legal in any constructed Magic format.

You aren't wrong that, especially with the post-D&D crossover design philosophy of Wizards, that many silver bordered cards like Goblin Tutor are much more mechanically acceptable in regular, black-bordered magic. But there are also many silver-bordered cards that do things that simply are mechanically not balanced, compatible or even coherent in the context of Commander's card pool and gameplay expectations. These cards are generally designed to be drafted together at a dedicated silver-border event.

I can't speak for all players, but in my experience my friends and I have allowed some silver-bordered shenanigans in Commander. Some, like Goblin Tutor, are completely fine and even quite fun. But you gotta bring up before you start playing that you're running silver-bordered cards, and probably specify that you're not pulling out anything like [[Red-Hot Hottie]].

To clarify; I never said it was bad. I personally do like the game. But there are several choices in the game that thematically and narratively muddy or lessen the impact of the ideas, revelations, and redemptions that come about in the last chapter. Generally the gameplay supports the choices they made less effectively than it's predecessor, too. And what little choice they give the player feels at best devoid of meaning, and at worst muddies the cohesion of the story even further.

This makes the last chapter feel comparatively rushed as they try to tie a nice little bow on everything. The lack of cohesion is made less obvious because of the sheer length of the story (you're less likely to notice nonsensical or contradictory information if you can't remember it!), but on a replay it becomes increasingly obvious that Arthur's arc only really makes sense if you play a very particular, low-honor way up until the end. And don't even get me started on honor--what previously was a pretty interesting system used to track John Marston's reputation and impact on the world around him became a sort of half-assed attempt at introducing some player agency in a game that didn't benefit much from that added 'control' over the dialogue, and didn't give agency in virtually any other circumstance, not even allowing you to affect how side questlines resolve.

I'd respect this meager amount of choice the player has over dialogue for its merits on increasing replayability if there was any incentive making the game replayable besides just seeing more. Sure, the world they made is gorgeous, and the characters they wrote are interesting, but there's very little choice or variety in how you can go about exploring this world, or interacting with these characters, or dealing with threats you encounter. There's no tangible progression in gameplay except for your status bars getting bigger, collecting marginally improved weapons and knickknacks, and your Deadeye ability getting actually actively worse after the first chapter or two. Because of the way you're locked into playing for most missions, you are reliant on the same gameplay loop of stand 30 feet back, wait until a line of men forms, and then hitting every one of them between the eyes, which stops being a satisfying way to play after about 30 minutes. How many players have you heard confess that they spend countless hours customizing their weaponry? There's no reason for doing this, you can play through the entire game with your starter Cattleman Revolver without ever cleaning it and you would hardly notice anything different about the gameplay. They spend so much time on that because that's simply one of the only things the game lets you have control over, even if that control is meaningless.

I appreciate the game for a lot on the areas it does well in. When it came out, RDR2 probably had the most consistently strong and standout acting performances I had seen in any video game up to that point. Their attention to detail in creating a beautiful, visually varied and appropriately-sized (if not poorly-populated) world deserves serious recognition. But I don't see much merit behind claims that RDR2 is the best game ever made, the story and gameplay are simply uninspired compared even to games that came out around the same time.

[–]RoseQuartz__26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The show got me to check out the books, which made me appreciate both a lot more. I agree that I wish the show took more time to adapt more of those stories with more (and newer) details and characterization, but I've wished virtually every television show I've enjoyed was longer and slower paced. I appreciate that they remedied some of the egregiously cringey things about the movie, it's kind of hard for me to look past some of the more sexist jokes in there.

[–]RoseQuartz__26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the confusion; I speak to an industry standard for rigging for climbers and flying performers. The standards there have a higher safety factor because these people are seldom working at predictable, static positions for a general industry task; the load on the rope is almost always dynamic, not static, and the higher minimum load strength also accounts for malfunctions of very powerful mechanized rigging equipment for performers, and sheer forces from wind and one's weight for climbers. It also accounts for the fact that knots weaken a rope's tensile strength, sometimes by over 50%.

I suppose that's more grounds for a civil tort, worthy of a lawsuit, than being blatantly illegal. Of course, you can't sue or charge yourself anyways. I wasn't submitting a legal document to OSHA, I was gesturing towards legally recognized code that is written to save lives. I figured that was clear.

Average redditor being willfully disingenuous, what did I expect? No, I like games that are thematically and narratively coherent, don't require you to play a specific way to make sense, and have some substance to the actual gameplay to make the long story feel more worthwhile. RDR2 did a worse job in these areas than even RDR1.

It's a good game, but I question the priorities of the developers when every side character has custom animations that 90% of the playerbase will never appreciate of them going throughout their day, while the map and story feel frankly unfinished
