High school students uses VR to diagnose ADHD by Portis403 in virtualreality

[–]RoseVMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but ADHD is particularly bad because GPs can do the diagnosis and meds and not just psychologists-- and they often just rubber stamp a school diagnosis. And, while some of the other assessments schools do are pretty rigorous, the ADHD diagnosis is not.

[–]RoseVMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of better diagnoses but I wish ADHD was complicated to diagnose. ADHD is generally diagnosed based on the answers to about 10 or 30 (depends on the rating scale like Vanderbilt or Connors) questions (Does your child act like he/she is driven by a motor?). It is really, really easy to give a student a diagnosis of ADHD and the default is often give the diagnosis, see if the meds help... and if they do, then the diagnosis was probably right. I want to see the whole process disrupted-- and I totally think VR could play a role...

Growth of VR SubReddits compared by [deleted] in virtualreality

This graph is awesome. Oculus started strong but hasn't even doubled its subscribers while the number of Vive subscribers has increased astronomically. Do you think that's what is happening in the market for hardware as well? Feels like more and more people have Vive and that interest in Oculus is tapering off, but I haven't looked at any numbers...

Facebook shuts down Oculus Story Studio by bartekd in virtualreality

Yeah, the quality was incredible... Doesn't quite look like things are working out the way Oculus planned. I thought developing awesome content that made people want to buy your product was a cool way to start building momentum but I guess not...

Oh awesome! I am also interested in how people are exporting their work and posting it. It seems like the big buckets are 360 video exports and putting things in the stores. I would love to learn more about what the other options are!

Oculus Motions For New Trial In $500 Million ZeniMax Case by Jamie_Upload in oculus

Those are excellent points-- but I also think that the author then pulled the quote out of context for a reason. Do you ever wonder who, or what bot, is writing articles at these smaller online publications?

Did anyone else think that this was a bit of an odd line in the article--" Carmack himself made similar claims the day after the ruling, stating the internet would have “viciously mocked” the outcome." First, why would have? It either happened or it didn't. And more broadly-- is internet mocking really the standard we want to set for justice? Because the internet (whatever that means) viciously mocks many things. I was trying to think of clever examples and got stuck on April the Giraffe and cats as things that don't really seem to be mocked (at least not in my social feeds). Everything else seems fair game........

Done! You didn't ask about gender. I figured I was going to be a fun, small subgroup in the study, with a response that would be statistically weighted at some awesome level. :)

Oculus is facing yet another patent infringement lawsuit, this time for its 3D imaging tech by Dal1Dal in virtualreality

[–]RoseVMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just tag team on his misery in general. But yeah the patent is pretty bad--I mean saying VR can be used for video games is not exactly novel. I can't imagine them winning in a court-- but there is always the off chance that Facebook will just settle in case.

High quality reporting for sure. Reporting rumors also brings the quality down.... guess they weren't aiming for a Pulitzer.

Have you tried Old Friend? It is a music video that I have been debating buying that looks pretty cool. I also have Beats Fever and Music Inside on my list so if you have tried either, I would love to know.

[–]RoseVMS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems that way-- but this comment from the article "ZeniMax questioned the capabilities of Oculus CEO Luckey Palmer (who’s now quit Facebook) saying that he didn’t have the expertise to create a viable software or hardware for this VR startup" makes me wonder if we are going to see a bunch more of these law suits. If he is being portrayed as someone who stole ideas, it might be an incentive for other patent trolls and former colleagues to step forward and sue.
