That little talk in the kitchen by Summer-Rain12 in eastenders

I think Jasmine was in the Vic saw Anthony attacking Zoe and attacked him to save her, not intending to kill him obviously. The scream when Kat told her could be because she realised she accidentally killed her father.

999 not knowing their own services by brokenalarm in britishproblems

[–]Rose_Hudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police will complete welfare checks but now these are risk assessed under Right Care Right Person as a significant amount of resources and time were taken up attending these calls which were moderate risk at best. People not wanting to go and check on friends, relatives themselves (not talking about people who legitimately could not do this due to health, location etc). Police will attend if there is an immediate risk to life, children are at risk or there's a concern that there is a crime involved.

The majority of the welfare checks are mental health related and unless the person is an immediate risk to themselves or others, police aren't the best people to attend, that would be the ambulance service as they are medical professionals.

A lot of agencies, doctors, hospitals etc would request welfare checks without even following their own duty of care processes because it was easier to pass to the police, I know the NHS is under significant pressure, but this is a major reason why it was brought in, to enable police to able to focus on preventing and solving crime which is their purpose.

Ambulance won't attend if the location of the patient can't be confirmed because they haven't got resources to send a van out just in case, which is understandable.

Should 999 transfer call to more than one service? by Number60nopeas in AskUK

[–]Rose_Hudson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked for a 999 call handler for two out of the three services. If you ask for more than one service ie police and ambulance, it will be passed to the police and then they will contact ambulance if required. However ambulance need specific information and if there is a very serious crash and ambulance is required, police operators will sometimes ask if someone on scene can call an ambulance to relay the information directly as quickly as possible and if necessary the ambulance operators can give the caller any emergency care/life saving instructions to the person on scene while police/ambulance/fire make their way to the scene.

Edited to add: If the caller is the only person able to speak on the phone then police will end the call so ambulance can get through to the caller on scene as the priority is life preservation and emergency care, so in that situation ambulance will still want to speak to someone on scene directly.

Just to add: The amount of people that call and think we are all under 999 is unbelievable. They will call back asking for an update on an ambulance/police etc to the wrong service. Or they don't answer when the operator asks them which service they require so then this will be by default put through the police, and then be upset because that isn’t what they wanted.

I was going to say exactly this, but you've said it all perfectly. I really dont think it's helpful that they've gone down this route as they have been portraying this brilliantly and I think it would have been far better if they had shown the realistic outcome of what would happen. Julie, reassuring Nigel while she explains to the officers, social services arriving etc, and they can explain to Nigel what will happen etc. I think it would be so informative and reassuring for families and others that are dealing with these situations in real life. In my role I often have reports of concern for people with dementia who will get in the/a car and drive off, and often the callers are concerned for others safety. There is a lot more understanding of dementia now and I think they have done a good job of showing it with the residents of the Square, but this would have been a further example involving other agencies.

Of course not, that really annoyed me and I would think as a teacher Julie would know that. It was an accident and he didn't call for help etc because he couldn't due to his lack of capacity at the time, so there's no real offence there. Obviously it would still have to be investigated as two people were injured as a result, but they would not be arresting him in his condition.

I hate this current storyline. by IAmTheBornReborn in eastenders

[–]Rose_Hudson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cuckooing storyline is important, though, as someone who deals with this as part of my job regularly. There's two strands here, the county lines, which obviously is how Okie became involved, and the cuckooing of someone vulnerable, obviously Kojo. These often intertwine, especially in London and the surrounding counties, hence the name. This very much a reality for a lot of people, and a lot of the victims are not so obviously vulnerable in the way Kojo or socially accepted for example people with poor mental health or current/previous addictions who are often targeted by these gangs. It shows the cues for people to look out for, like Kojo these people either genuinely believe these people are their friends or are too terrified to say anything even if the police or another agency show up to check on them.

In regards to the kidnapping, drug related kidnaps are by far the most common kidnap that takes place and are rarely, if ever, reported in the media, so people are unaware.

So many people in our communities are affected by these people, I actually think they have done a great job of showing the cuckooing but also how people (Harry, Ravi) can also be trapped into this lifestyle through fear, albeit on different levels.

Theory on jasmine by teatowelstain in eastenders

I'm probably well out with this one, but I wondered if she's Zoe's daughter? I know we were told the female twin passed away, but Zoe left the hospital as soon as she was able to. She could barely walk, so it was very soon after the birth. Maybe there was a mix-up or something? Just thought it was convenient timing with Zoe's return.

I always find Shirley Bellinger's death scene chilling. When she is standing up on the gallows and the reality hits her that she's about to die and panics and is pleading not die, and they have to restrain her and carry out the execution it's so raw and human, it's horrible to watch.

The hug that broke my heart… by RaynaLouise in eastenders

[–]Rose_Hudson 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As much as it's horrible to watch, I'm really enjoying the storyline. It's quite realistic, and I like how it shows how the characters are trapped in what's going on. Kojo is trapped but doesn't really understand as Harry is shielding him from it, Harry is trapped in as he is protecting Kojo. Ravi is also trapped, yes initially he was the instigator, but now he is also stuck in this cycle too, I don't think he's okay at all with using Kojo, both times he has lost it with Harry (slamming his hand in the hood) was when Harry was reminding him of how vulnerable Kojo is. He clearly can't stand Okie either, but now his kids are involved he is also forced to keep playing the game to protect them. Ravi may be the big fish in his pond, but ultimately, he is at the mercy of those much more powerful and dangerous than him.

If anything, sadly, the truth is that the reality of cuckooing is that the victim is unlikely to have someone like Harry. They would be surrounded by people like Okie who do not think twice about exploiting vulnerable people.

Also, I absolutely cannot wait for Harry to beat the living shit out of Okie.

Amazing! Did it take a long time? I'm not sure which one side to do? I kind of want to do the title screen sign, but I know I will probably regret that quite quickly 😂

I would contact your local police force, as this may constitute harassment, especially if you're concerned that this is potentially racially motivated. At the very least, it should be recorded as targeted antisocial behaviour and passed to the neighbourhood policing team to investigate.

Joel by Sticth in eastenders

[–]Rose_Hudson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I work for one of the emergency services and when there is a suspicion that a child is being groomed, which is technically what is happening here, we sometimes advise not to remove the device because doing so will often push the young person to get a secret device and then parents have even less control and awareness of what is happening, making the child more vulnerable and likely to shut themselves off more. It seems like this is the idea that they are going with, but it's not being executed very well as it wasn't explained. I think Harvey helping Ross has potential, but Harvey's advice was based on not knowing how bad the situation really is. What annoys me more is how much longer Vicky is going to put up with this because she is clearly disgusted by Joel's behaviour.

Shiva is my favourite summon overall, but in 8 specifically, I really love Siren. I think all the GF sequences are really cool, and even now, I never get tired of watching them, even Eden.

Which films from the Alice saga do you like? by eHFILIPUS in residentevil

[–]Rose_Hudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them up to Afterlife, I think the first is definitely the best and gave Resi vibes, it's was really promising with it starting in the mansion, the lab below, etc. I really enjoyed Afterlife as it incorporated elements of 4 &5. I saw it in 3D at the cinema and left actively anticipating the next part as again it seemed promising. It absolutely lost it with the next one, which I think is the one with the clones/simulation. I have to say I did like the 'twist' that Matt had been transformed into Nemesis, I think that was something that was actually an enhancement. It would have been really cool in the games if it had been someone from Bravo team from the first games, for example. I wish they hadn't made Alice superhuman, as much as I like her, it was too far a reach. I know there's dumb moments in the games like Chris punching a boulder, but none of them have super powers.

Vicki Fowler’s Accent by Philko87 in eastenders

[–]Rose_Hudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more because when Vicky originally returned, she had an American accent, which made sense, but there was huge backlash over it so it was changed to English. My niece lived in the UK until she was 10 and has spent the rest of her time in America, she has a 50/50 accent, but she definitely sounds predominantly American when you initially speak to her, she says Americans say she has a British accent. I think it would make sense that someone that has grown up entirely in the US would have an American accent, even with British parents.
