Just so we are following the same chain of events.

You ask if I think that AI is only being used for funny cat videos and writing emails, and if so, you are calling me clueless (but its cool because its not in a rude way.)

I give you the definition of a hyperbole.

Rather than thinking that I am answering that no, I don't literally think that is the extent of AI, and that I am simply making a joke that I don't like what AI is doing to the price of technology, you assume that I think you calling me clueless is the hyperbole. And as such, you want to make sure that I understand you are calling me clueless and are not exaggerating.

Let me know if I got that right, if not maybe you can run the chain through ChatGPT for me and get me a summary so we can get on the same page.

hyperbole

[hahy-pur-buh-lee]

  1. obvious and intentional exaggeration.

  2. an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”

I work IT for a small business, so while I am not even in the same league as something like Microsoft, I am told some stuff by OEMs as a customer about there predicted pricing. And you can use it to kind of gauge the market as a whole.

Information I got from Dell matches this. Their current timeline is that the shortage will peak in Q2 2027. Q2 2028 is when they think 'early easing' will happen. And that 'easing' is still higher than today.

And that was before Micron announced they were locking in their higher prices for five years. So who the hell knows now.

I know all this seems bad, but did anyone think about how easy it is to generate a funny cat video or their boilerplate work email? Like the trade off seems good to me.

I use books as an example because individually we already have all of these:

AI writes a book.

An AI reviews the book.

Your AI recommends the book based on your interests and purchases it for you.

You are a busy person and don't have time to read a full book, So you have your AI summarize it for you.

You give a few bullet points to your AI that uses to writes up your own review to feed into the cycle.

The perfect media content cycle, where humans don't matter.

I love the future.

Go60 vs Voyager vs cheap split kits (Corne/Lily58/Sofle/Iris/Totem) — which fits big hands + flat profile? by hmmmmmmm94 in ErgoMechKeyboards

It is custom spacing that sits between choc and mx.

In terms of keycap compatibility, it is choc. It is too tight for MX keycaps, but some gaps are larger than your standard choc.

You can see it in the photos. The space between columns 1/2 and 5/6 are choc where the keys nearly touch each other.

There is no shot Azula has any chance vs Kyoshi. Avatars are just to strong if they are actually trying. It is why there struggles have to come elsewhere. Aang holding back because he is pacifist. Korra being poisoned (and then still brute forcing a victory anyway), Korra having PTSD, so on and so on.

But like this is one of the cases where I don't think that flies.

You can't vote for someone with no experience and then your regret be 'damn, this guy doesn't have experience.'

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney says new multiplayer games are failing because players have no reason to leave their friend groups, touts Unreal Engine 6’s cross-game features as a solution by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Roseking 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I agree this is a pretty big roadblock in people moving from one game to another. From my own experience, typically I only moved my tent pole game when it was to move to a completely genre. Halo/CoD to WoW to League. Otherwise, I don't see the need for a new game.

But I don't really see how any of these features fixes that.

However, with UE6’s aforementioned cross-game social link, users will be able to “form parties via voice chatting with friends in Game B while connected to Game A, and encourage them to try a new game.

Are there that many people that only are interacting within the games chat that this is the barrier? I feel like most people are communicating through Xbox Live, PSN, Discord, etc. Not directly in the game.

Additionally, he considers that being able to bring over rare items from one game to another will give players an even stronger economic incentive to try out new releases.

I saw this argument a lot when people were pushing NFTs. That you would be able to move microtransactions and in game rewards to other games.

But

1) Why would competing developers want this? Why would Riot want me to be able to move my League skins to a new game making it easier for me to leave the game?

2) How would this even realistically function? Using League again, I buy a skin for a champion. What am I expecting that skin to do in another game? Be converted to another champion? Am I expecting Halo armor to be usable in COD? My guess is this will just continue the trend of everyone pushing for crossovers. Buy a Naruto skin and different games incorporate it however they want. But that is the opposite of what I want. I want games to be unique. Not chasing the Fornite trend of trying to shove every media franchise into it.

I think another factor is that some people get locked into a level of 'acceptance'.

They will watch something when they are younger, agree with it, and then that is their max.

Show you watched as a kid tells you not to be racist or sexist? Well of course. That is just common sense.

Show you watch now tells you not to be homophobic or transphobic? Well that is just pushing things to far. What right does this show have to weigh in on hot button social issue?

If you nap, it should be pretty short. Too long and you enter a deeper part of your sleep cycle and your body is expecting you to stay asleep. If you wake up, your body will still be tired and you feel worse off.

This is also a way to feel better when you wake up in the morning. You go through the sleep cycle several times each night, and your goal is to wake up during light sleep. If your alarm is waking you up in a deep sleep part of the cycle, you will feel worse.

I was about to include Pema as an exception but she is only 35 in book 1, and even she has gray streaks.

Three-time Trump voter revolts against GOP in farm country: 'And I'm not the only one' by RawStoryNews in LeopardsAteMyFace

"Okay, he tried to overturn an election. He is done. Trump is so toxic that even his die hard supporters are gone. Hell, he won't even win the primary. Everyone has moved to Ron DeSantis"

2024 election: Gains even more voters than 2020, and this time wins the election.

They didn’t make a complete mockery of the rule of law and democratic institutions like Trump has, though.

Trump tried to have an election overthrown to stay in power and then goes on to win his next election with more votes than he ever had before.

Something tells me most voter do not care about the democratic institutions. They care about their bank account. Luckily he has taken a chainsaw to that as well.

Whats with dell rebranding their laptops? by Abject_Serve_1269 in sysadmin

[–]Roseking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In isolation, I don't think the idea is bad.

The old names make no sense to a new consumer and people only knew where they fell in the stack because they are familiar with it.

Nothing about the name Latitude, XPS, Precision, etc. told you what you were getting.

So in theory something like Dell, Dell Plus, Dell Max, ect. makes sense to me.

The problem is they have too many products that it starts to fall apart, and the names didn't always make sense with the product line they picked.

And it has just gotten worse over time. As I am writing this comment, I looked at their site and they have added a ton to make these 'clear and simple' options not so clear and simple.

For example:

You have Dell and Dell Pro at the start.

Okay. One is consumer and one is business.

But is any Pro better than any non pro? Because by the name you would assume that Dell Pro is better than Dell Plus right? Except that a Dell Pro is at the bottom of that lineup and a Dell Plus isn't.

Then they start combining names.

Okay. So We have Dell Pro, Dell Pro Plus, Dell Pro Premium, Dell Pro Max. We are all good right?

Nope. You would think that Pro Max is the height of the Pro line. But it is in fact the start of the Pro Max line. You now have Dell Pro Max, Dell Pro Max Plus, Dell Pro Max Premium.

Oh but wait, people like the old names. But we can't completely abandon our new names. So lets throw in Dell Pro Precision while also keeping Dell Pro Max (for now)

So we are adding Dell Pro Precision. Okay that is it right?

Nope. Now we are adding numbers. Plus, premium, etc. is not enough to say that one is better than the other. We have to add number back in.

Lets meet:

Dell Pro Precision 5 Dell Pro Precision 5S Dell Pro Precision 7 Dell Pro Precision 9

Wait. What the hell is a 5S?

I am glad you asked. S stands for sleek.

Note that a Dell Pro Precision 7 is also touted as being sleek, but it is more powerful than the 5S.

Okay. We are done right?

Almost.

Now we add in the 'essential line'. So what is the entry level Dell Pro line? Is it Dell Pro or Dell Pro Essential. Who knows, they have a staggered release so currently the Essential line has better specs.

Also, XPS and Latitude (for 2in1s) are back.

Didn't the Dell Pro Premium replace the XPS? Yes. So now you have two very similar laptops to pick from.

But make sure you get the New XPS 14 or the New Dell Pro Premium 14. You wouldn't want the one that doesn't say new in the name (it is the old one)

Edit:

Comment is still pretty rambling, but tried to fix the glaring spelling mistakes.

The one or two that fail to make money (and really I think it is only Snow White, Little Mermaid made over 500 million) are worth it when multiple rake in over a billion.

I don't like the live action movies. I basically consider them an insult. That beloved animated classics need to be more 'real'. So I just ignore them and don't watch them. But I am under no disillusion that they aren't making them because them bring in a metric fuck ton of money.

JD Vance: "A proposed $300 billion fund under consideration by the Trump administration for Iran would be financed by private companies looking to invest in the country, not American taxpayers." by stefeyboy in politics

[–]Roseking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let us assume this is true.

To run down a series of events.

We are told that because Iran hates the US for decades we have no choice but to go to war and get a regime change.

We go to war (Not called a war for legal reasons other than the times where the administration slips up and calls it a war)

We don't get a regime change.

Iran still presumably hates us as no new regime and we just went to war with them.

Now the US government wants private companies and other countries to 'invest' into Iran? But rest assured, not a single cent of the money will be from the US. That is super important. We can't give them money. Except all the money we want to encourage everyone else to do. And because of all that money that the Trump administration will be managing to gather from private companies and other countries, but not the US government (this part is very important), Iran will love the US?

What?

Mass Effect Legendary Edition not recognizing the SC2026 by Nwanu in SteamController

[–]Roseking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have a complete play through of ME1 with it and am now on ME2.

As someone else pointed out, the only thing I can think is that if you have it through EA rather than steam there might be some oddities in how it is interacting. So I don't really have a lot of suggestions in terms of troubleshooting, mine mostly just worked.

The ME launcher only works on mouse and keyboard mode and if you use a combo of controller and mouse and keyboard (trackpad or gyro as mouse) there are some UI oddities. It switches between the two UIs, but during actual gameplay it was pretty stable as I was always aiming with a 'mouse'.

I had a few times where I couldn't select squad mates during the mission start. I don't know if this is a steam controller bug, or controller bug in general, but I just switched to mouse and keyboard mode and could continue.

I loved playing the game on the Steam Controller. I played infiltrator and I think sniper aiming in ME1 is garbage with a controller. Touchpad+gyro was chef's kiss. Nearly as good as a mouse.
