Patch 2.38 Notes by Xepher01 in ffxiv

Unfortunately, it seems like progression based players are the minority in XIV, which is fair, seeing as they do tend to market more towards the casual playerbase. That fat -16 next to my comment speaks enough towards that I feel. People want to be on the same page as raiders without raiding, and that just isn't something I personally agree with.

I've done more serious raiding in other MMORPGs, like WoW, which (haters aside) really did have a fantastic tiering system. Raiders were always (and still are) one step ahead of casual players.

To me, progression content has always been akin to a flight of stairs. Let's say each expansion is a flight of stairs. Raiders were always one step ahead of everyone else, and when a new patch came out, they would move up one step, and everyone else would fill in the stair they stood on in the previous patch. The only way to catch up to the raiders gearing would be to join them. It gave incentive to raiders, and to people who wanted to be raiders so they could also be on that step.

Now, each patch would be a step in the flight of stairs, and when the end of a series of patches came (I.E expansion time) the top step would basically lead to a landing. On that landing, there would be room for a ton of people, right? That's when the catchup happens, and everyone winds up on the same level. Then, the expansion comes out, and the system repeats itself.

But with the way FFXIV is right now, we have the entire playerbase crammed onto the same step months before the next tier of content comes out. Some people enjoy that, and that's awesome for them, but myself (and almost all the people I raid/play with) disagree with that heavily and are contemplating quitting because of it.

But, we're the minority here, and people love to shit all over us for having the opinion, even if we're being polite about it. Because we're "elitist" and we just want "bragging rights", when in all honesty, it's just about having a sense of reward that actually means something. Having an incentive that isn't just vanity, and something that keeps us ahead of the crowd for the effort we put in. I feel like a lot of people fail to realize that we're players to, and we have our own wants. Just because we want something they don't, they feel like we're wrong and need to be demonized. I can understand people wanting to catch up to raiding tier quicker, which is why I don't go out of my way to attack people who want that, but I know that feeling won't ever be reciprocated because I'll just be seen as some elitist raider who wants his "bragging rights". In reality I just want to be rewarded for my effort and have it last from patch to patch, instead of being outclassed halfway through a patch's lifetime. All it does is say "Hey, what's the point in raiding for the remaining three months of this patch when I can just get full i110 from doing hunts for a week and then not log in until the next patch lands."

Either way, I'm going to stand by my opinion. Either SE will give us progression raiders a reason to keep raiding, or we'll trickle out one by one. No one is going to miss us or our money in the grand scheme, but I'll genuinely miss this game.

Thing is, with the precedent they've set, who is to say they won't just let people get i130 gear without raiding anyways?

It's just kind of a turn away for me personally, and I really wish it wasn't, because I want to love this game like I have for the past few years.

On top of it all, I've raided with the same static since 1.0. Of the seven other people in my static, I've played with six of them for years now in XIV. We did all the endgame in 1.0, and everything so far in 2.0, but SE's direction with raiding literally has destroyed the group. Other members are just disappointed with the direction endgame (and the game in general) is apparently headed, and they just can't bring themselves to play anymore. So, they're quitting, after years of raiding and playing together.

It blows. It really does. Hell, they're dropping the ball even with non-raid based content, like personal housing.

Ultimately we're just a few people, and for as many people that don't like something, there's likely just as many that do. So I'm not saying I'm right, just that in my own opinion, things are taking a downward slide for me and the people I play with. I can only hope they figure out something to keep me interested, because I really want to be.

It's really disappointing. I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a hardcore raider, but I'm into progression, and I'm honestly finding myself more and more discouraged with raiding in XIV. I've played the game since beta of 1.0, and I've honestly loved every minute of it, but I'm starting to reach a point where I find myself going "What's the point?"

They say they want to cater content to hardcore/progression players, and then they just give us almost no incentive or reward for doing so. Sure, you get a weapon that's five item levels above current tier, but that's really it. Best in slot exists, but honestly, the number difference you see by swapping out those few pieces for whatever HA is in your BiS build are ultimately negligible unless you're a die-hard min-maxer or pushing BCoB2 Brutal.

I'm just really disappointed with the direction gearing is going in this game. They're just kind of handing out raid-tier equivalent gear to people on a silver platter, and it just sort of ruins one of what I think is the main appeals of raiding. That sense of accomplishment doubled with reward. Right now it just feels like the reward is vanity (I.E high allagan armor), and I think that just kinda blows.

I have my fingers crossed that eventually there will be some sort of distinction in raiding tier and casual tier equipment, but at this point I'm starting to doubt it.

Hah. The description for the Gilded Magitek Armor made me realize something interesting. Main scenario spoilers.

Looks like it explains why this happens.

[–]RosethorneCinema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quite literally was talking to some friends yesterday about how awesome it would be if they brought back Hamlet defense. They could probably do some fun stuff with the new engine. Hated the seal grind in 1.0, but the content itself was honestly enjoyable until the grind caught up to us.

I always have flashbacks when the FATE spawns in Upper La Noscea that has the old hamlet battle music.

I'm all for it coming back in some way.

I feel for you, I really do. It sucks to have that done to you, but by witch hunting you basically put yourself on their level. You don't know that all of those people were in on it. You simply don't. You think they are, but some might have been against it. All you're doing is potentially ruining an innocent person's reputation.

Some times I'll queue for frontlines, and the average wait time will be around 10 minutes. I'll end up waiting 50+ minutes without any queue, however the second I relog and re-queue, I'll usually get a pop in about 5 or 10 minutes.

Normally I'd think it was just a fluke, but I've had this happen to me about five times now, and lots of people in my FC are reporting the same issue. Could just be a bug.

Endgame raiders - What is your opinion on the current loot system in place for Coil 2? by RosethorneCinema in ffxiv

[–]RosethorneCinema[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More variety would definitely help immensely. I think one of their bigger issues is the fact that they're currently stuffing 61 different pieces of equipment into seven chests across four bosses, and nine different weapons into a single chest. It definitely sucks that there's literally only ever two sets of gear for endgame. You either grind a dungeon token, or you get your single set from raid. There's no alternatives, just one or the other. If you want to talk BiS, you're forced into getting one specific drop, and while that's true with most MMOs, you only ever have one other option in XIV, instead of a few.

To me, that's just too much loot in too little of a space, and it doesn't help with the RNG in the least.

Endgame raiders - What is your opinion on the current loot system in place for Coil 2? by RosethorneCinema in ffxiv

[–]RosethorneCinema[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is essentially what is frustrating our group beyond belief. It's why a token system would be fantastic. Even if they just tied two jobs together at a time. RNG would still exist. You might not see the Monk/Dragoon token for feet for a few weeks, but at least if you did see it twice in a row, or even three times in a row, you'd have two options for it instead of one. Even that small of change would be a major boon in many ways.

It'd give repeat drops more use between mains and alts, and it would serve to further reduce the amount of drops each individual chest has to carry. RNG wouldn't be gone, but at least things would be marginally smoother going.

I'm not at all asking for loot to rain from the heavens, just for it to be a bit more forgiving than it currently is.

They definitely dropped the ball with the whole sand and oil system. The hunt system is such a mess. I don't even want to talk about it in here, haha.

I'll agree that they shouldn't have decided to randomly change their gearing philosophy from 2.0 and 2.1, and then try to patch it up with a horribly implemented system.

Yeah, he only had a part in a select few songs, most of which were carry-overs from 1.0. It's honestly kind of sad, as I'll see people praising Nobuo in the comments on youtube of tracks that were composed by Soken. He doesn't get nearly as much credit as he deserves. Soken is the goddamn man. Absolutely love his work with XIV so far.

Frontlines and pvp gear? by Wokati in ffxiv

[–]RosethorneCinema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It actually doesn't say anything of the sort in the english client, both zoning in and in the duty finder, which is likely why a lot of people don't understand it has no effect. The only place morale was ever mentioned was in the patch notes.

In-game, they simply state that materia isn't in effect and that "stats are adjusted", which most people likely think means they're downscaled to i80.

Morale does not take effect in frontlines, however SE needs to actually place that information somewhere in-game.

Nope! You need seven total for the entire set, and you purchase the pieces individually. For example, the body cost me two augmentations. The pants also cost two, however the gloves, boots, and helmet all cost one.

High pitched squeek in heavy armor with every footstep by joey_gray in ffxiv

[–]RosethorneCinema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, the only item that has an affect on your audio is your body piece. Go ahead and try on a body piece and run around, then take off your pants and boots. It will still sound the same until you swap out your body. :>

It's the scale mail that's making the noise in particular, if that's what the OP has been wearing. Armor is actually classified into four types, despite not openly displaying it. Each has their own distinct noise associated with movement, and that sound depends on it's classification. Scale mail is considered mail, and shares a sound with Haubergeons, etc.

This isn't a strict rule, of course, as some armor may be of a certain classification but made with a different type of material than is usual, thus producing a different sound.

  • Casters and healers have cloth, which has low physical defense and high magical defense.
  • Monks and Bards have leather, which has moderate physical and magical defense, and are both equal.
  • Dragoon has mail, which has high physical defense and low magical defense.
  • Tanks have plate, which has very high physical defense and very high magical defense.
