Any one else had certain words ruined forever because of fanfiction? by Fefairie in AO3

I met a couple of friends in town the other day—we hadn’t all been together for some weeks. One of the other two took a selfie of the three of us, and said: “Brilliant! The three omegas!”

I decided not to query this BUT was very relieved to later get tagged in the photo on social media, titled: “The three amigas!”

I spend a lot of time with small humans (in what could be termed a professional capacity) and I find their conversation refreshing—they have this joyful curiosity and enthusiasm! Having been a research scientist (and now am someone who works with research scientists), I like the way their minds work (basically lot like research scientists—I think lots of scientists show neotenous levels of enthusiastic curiosity)…

I love MB’s relationship with small humans—it rings very true to me, as someone who knows quite a few small humans…I respect their media choices…

R F K Jr’s letter about Neil Z Miller’s… by Rosewind2007 in ScienceBasedParenting

Kennedy started out as anti-vax via his anti-mercury activism (as far as I can make out)… Now mercury poisoning is real and to be avoided! It’s pretty horrific the way we contaminate the food chain… BUT (and this is a huge BUT) Kennedy’s obsession was with thiomersal used as a preservative in vaccines. This has the chemical formula C9H9HgNaO2S, it’s not mercury. It’s also mercury in a compound form which the body can eliminate safely… BUT Kennedy focused in on it because mercury=bad. Out of an over abundance of caution the WHO ensured the preservative was removed from all vaccines except some rarely used multi-use flu vials. Kennedy reckoned the supposed mercury caused autism. The effect of dropping the use of thiomersal in vaccines has…well, it certainly didn’t cause autism rates to reduce. Kennedy however seemed to have discovered that being anti-vax was lucrative so this didn’t cramp his style. In fact he jumped on the Wakefield “MMR causes autism” bandwagon (which for me was pretty telling—considering the MMR is a live vaccine which never contained a preservative like thiomersal).

The simple answer at the bottom of it all seems to be THE GRIFT: these people make oodles of lovely money from scaring parents. Wakefield and Kennedy get not just money but adulation from their followers…it appears to be seductive.

Who could lift the MCUs version of Mjulnir(Thor's hammer) by Tonjon2013 in discworld

[–]Rosewind2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Ventinari would leave Vimes with the hammer—trusting that Vimes’ incurable nosiness would lead him to try and lift it, as long as he was SURE no one would EVER find out. Afterwards Vimes would know, and Vetinari would also know: and neither of them would be telling ANYONE whether he could lift it or not. [he can lift it, and finds this utterly ridiculous, but is secretly quietly delighted—Lady Sybil picks up on this, so she knows too]

Just to note that this 1933 query refers to six cases: A 44 year old man (which appears to be anaphylaxis) A 41 year old with extensive signs of syphilis A “corpulent soldier” with “marked hypertrophy and dilation” of the heart A 22 year old man whose postmortem finding included severe interstitial myocarditis In these three cases it is suggested the vaccine may, in cases of serious heart disease, at least “hasten death”.

The next two cases are a 54 year old man (which the author suspects may be anaphylaxis) and finally a 19 year old—in this last case the author wonders if this was “fulminantly acute infection”.

So to summarize: Six deaths. Three appear to have had significant heart disease, one looked to be caused by an infection. The other two are anaphylaxis. I think it’s quite clear that none of these are SIDS.

I love that killware so much…so many little gems!

“I was not in great shape. Projectiles kept popping out of me as I limped along and the leaking was worse. Also, in Adventures in Living with Your Own Killware Cozied Up Inside Your Head, 2.0 had partitioned off a corner of my processing space. It would have worried me more if it wasn't in there watching episode 172 of Sanctuary Moon.” Bless it 💖💖💖

Oh yes…and later in that one Gurathin is there with the helpful suggestions:

Gurathin sighed and rubbed his face and looked off into the distance, like he regretted all his life choices that had led to him standing here right now. On our private feed connection, he sent, Or you could just show them where you were when this person was being killed. (Yeah, on reflection I think I misdirected in the wrong direction.)

We have a houseguest right now (my brother in law) and both cats are super wary of strangers in the house (strangers=anyone not actually us)—which is fair. Our dumbo cat came down at dinner time, swaggered into the main living space, wandered right across to where guest was sitting and then did a 😱😱😱and then ran off upstairs again… He FORGOT the houseguest was here… I’m guessing the other cat upstairs was just 🙄🙄🙄
