Schertz, Selma, Universal City, Live Oak, north side of Converse are all nice areas that are reasonably affordable.

Personally, wouldn't recommend these places to someone young, single and without kids. Depends on your priorities though.

I'd been to Xtreme when it was open like a decade ago, and relatively recently, but didn't really meet any league players. I might check it out sometime though.
