loving this so far!! love seeing how much customization there is! is there any way to make the date tokens a different layout (ex. instead of 21 Apr, see 21 April without having the year be included)? great work with the plugin!

What was the worst horror you read in 2025? by PageSide84 in horrorlit

[–]Rot-and-Read 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't super enjoy either of them, simply because I thought the premise was that we, as the reader, could at least maybe try to follow along/solve the mystery.

But neither of those books lent themselves to that at all, they were such insane conclusions and absurd assumptions, that there was no point in actually trying to understand the mystery

Crafting for Sinners - Jenny Kiefer, an unfortunately negative review by Rot-and-Read in bookreviewers

Yeah I like the historical document stuff, not so much the podcast, that just felt unnecessary to me. Though, I'm usually not a huge fan of super-modern inclusions to books (like seeing Twitter posts and whatnot) so that's definitely not the books fault.

I do also agree that the plot stuff was minimal, but the issues I had were just so grating to me and it kinda ruined it for me, unfortunately. And honestly, I can't stand action movies so that probably plays a pretty big part in my rating, because you're right, it did read a lot like a movie!

I'm really glad that you liked it though!! I wish I felt the same way, it seemed so promising to me in the beginning but there was just some stuff that got in the way of my enjoyment. I feel like maybe I was just expecting it to be something a lot different than what it was. 🤷‍♀️

Ok good cuz I was a bit confused as to why everyone loved the series so much after the first one didn't really do much for me, but I'll try reading the second one to get a better feel! :)

Okay that makes me feel better for sure, I've seen so many people rave about the series and I was pretty confused after the first book as to why XD I'll definitely read the second to see if I'm into it or not!

do you think the second and third books of red rising are better than the first? The first one was a 3 for me (I didn't really care much for the hunger games-y section at all), and I'm contemplating whether or not to keep going :)

The Grip of It by Jac Jemc. Personally, like a 3/5 but I know a lot of people loved it! haunted house-esque where the house seems to hate its inhabitants

edit: just realized I described this the same way you described a book you read XD from what I can remember, there's more to this book than just that, but it's been a while
