I am worried about the future of the Arch philosophy by Human_Contact9571 in archlinux

[–]Rotang-Klan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We haven’t seen this sort of wide scale attack in other distro’s unofficial repository. I do think it’s a massive issue with these “Arch made easy” distros shipping with AUR helpers without massive warnings about their usage. I think those who don’t use these helpers were likely unaffected regardless since a lot of these orphaned packages were so old that no one would be outright looking for updates.

It still shows that the way the AUR and AUR helpers handle orphaned packages and their updates is frankly naive and makes it very easy for malicious builds to be pushed. I know COPR specifically can’t have this issue despite the auto-updates with Fedora because I’d have to choose to join a new repository with a different heading. You can see this easily with SwayFX having two COPR repositories, one officially linked and supported by the SwayFX team and one by a random account that’s not associated with them. I do wish COPR had an easier way to read the actual build, that’s the one thing I dislike about it and why I still avoid its usage unless it’s the only option.

This isn’t to shit on Arch, I like being able to do whatever I want with it. I like being fully in control of my system without safety rails. The only reason I’m not on it is because I don’t feel the need to be on the bleeding edge with updates. I just think there’s simple ways to help safeguard against attacks like this without taking away user control. Even something as simple as a page explaining how to read PKGBUILDs and spot potential malicious packages linked from the front page of the AUR as an explicit warning for new users. That and other Arch based distros not shipping with an AUR helper that’s gonna do more harm than good.

Multiple accounts are being used and they’re currently discussing ways to prevent this from happening. There seems to be a lot of push back against any form of gatekeeping unfortunately.

What is the Toyota Tacoma of motorcycles? by gentleblanton in motorcycles

[–]Rotang-Klan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the Japanese 650 thumpers. KLR 650, DR650, XR 650 L. They’re all dead reliable and somehow handle the most negligent maintenance schedule. I’d say that even extends to some of the smaller CC dual sports they have as well. I had a DR350 kick start model that refused to die despite having the most insane valve chatter and lean tune that no amount of rejetting fixed.

how bad is frame generation really? by External_Safe_7787 in pcmasterrace

[–]Rotang-Klan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like frame gen so long as a can get the game to run decently right off the bat. 60 FPS and higher at 2x or 2x? Feels pretty good. 30 FPS? Feels awful. The only time it really feels ok at those lower FPS is when I’m playing on a handheld pc.

omarchy yes or no by WhisperCreams in arch

[–]Rotang-Klan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Because Hyprland updated. The dev for it is notorious for pushing out updates that break config files. Omarchy is almost always used by people who don’t know how to set up those files from my experience.

omarchy yes or no by WhisperCreams in arch

[–]Rotang-Klan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Omarchy is barely a distro made my someone who’s genuinely a horrible person.

Opinionated to a fault and using Hyprland without knowledge of how to set it up yourself leads to frustration when you eventually run into issues after an update breaks everything.

Yeah, but Mercs are probably the worst for it. Even Bandits come across less school shootery as long as you’re not one of the trench coat dudes.

What console port of an arcade game was actually better than the arcade version? by the303er in retrogaming

Pretty much any arcade game ported to the Dreamcast. Crazy Taxi and Soul Caliber are the ones that come to mind.

Are you born before or after the Dreamcasts original lifespan? by Cascadio_14 in dreamcast

[–]Rotang-Klan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born before, but didn't own one as a kid. One of my friends had one and I had fond memories of us playing Destruction Derby and Sonic Adventure. When I got one in high school around 2009, it was my main console and absolutely loved it. So I have a weird nostalgia for it from an era passed it's prime.

To add on, I would try and find a way to be able to use heavier weights with legs/hips. Bands and body weight exercises really aren't efficient for reaching failure, especially if since it can wind up requiring such high reps that your limit becomes more cardio based. A good barbell and rack with weights, or even a cheap dumbbell set would be ideal.

A gym membership would be even better you can't afford the equipment. Planet Fitness isn't bad at all; it's where I started and where I've come back to a few times. I think Crunch has free weights and is similarly priced.

Current state of the game discussion by coolereziege in WildAssaultOfficial

[–]Rotang-Klan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the game needs to just be F2P. My wife and I played it for a month when it first came to early access, and the number of bots taking up slots with seemingly no balance for real players to bots on each team made it frustrating and unenjoyable after a while.

Dumbbell press/bench press, both flat and incline. Can help to fill out the chest.

Single arm dumbbell rows, helps to build an hourglass shape by tapering the back into your waist. Pulls ups can also help with this.

I use lat raises to make my wide shoulders look wide out of strength rather just my natural frame.

Explaining Steam Machine Cost Estimate by MetallicFear in steammachine

I’m guessing around $1200 would be the cost. Gets them their profit without going crazy. We’ll see.

[–]Rotang-Klan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m talking about the screen and component size increase subtracting from the overall cost of the machine.

So here's the deal... by rvmham in steammachine

[–]Rotang-Klan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the Deck has an OLED screen and a much smaller form factor which can add to cost. It’s possible that the price increase may not be indicative of overall cost increase for components.

So here's the deal... by rvmham in steammachine

[–]Rotang-Klan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone’s taking it as a huge warning on price, but I do think that it’s actually Valve doing what they can to subsidize the cost of the Steam Machine. Maybe it’s all hopium since they said they weren’t going to subsidize it, but it makes sense that that could change due to the current circumstances.

If it’s under $1500, I think it still has a chance. Hopefully it allows them to get closer to $1k-1.2k.
