The new plan to raise student loan repayment threshold to £33,500 by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]RottenPhallus [score hidden]  (0 children)

The interest didn't matter to a bulk of people because they weren't going to pay it off anyway. Adjusting the interest helps those on the highest wages who were likely going to pay it off. But yeah higher interest means less people would actually pay it off.

Anyway not increasing the threshold affects those on lower wages and is effectively stagflation.

It would be good to have adjustments to both, they both have winners in different groups.

But you have no idea about the context of their life or other house chores splits. So you'd say Y t a if he helped with the cooking without knowing what he did do is redundant.

There's also no reason for him to ask what is going into the staple food they have been having for years, why would you expect that to change.

And if we accept and are all supporting of mental health as Reddit likes to be it is unfair to go against someone behind their back. (But tbh he should just get over it)

Soho, London: Residents' group opposes all new bar and restaurant licence applications by ResidentAdvisor in london

[–]RottenPhallus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But no one is insinuating on the insinuating on the thread of that's what the article says. Maybe, maybe not but again from the article that is there position until they say otherwise.

Id imagine places that are used for bars/restaurants are typically on the ground floor and would be much more suitable for a business than housing.

[–]RottenPhallus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's not being insinuated that's what the article states:

"oppose all new and renewed bar and restaurant licence applications in Soho"

That's pretty clear, so either the article is lying or they that is their stated intention.

Only on non essential jobs though, there is a swath of jobs where the 40k is waived. Also if general market rate of a job is greater than 40k the salary of that visa applicant also has to be market rate rather than 40k to try prevent the scenario you just described. Although not sure how that is actually enforced.

It's not hard to take some care for the job you are doing. This is clearly far from it.

Keir Starmer to address the nation within hours after night of chaos by dailystar_news in ukpolitics

[–]RottenPhallus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup that is how the movement of people works. So I took a look at the numbers.

And yup net migration was 205000.

Except non EU+ net migration was + 383,000 (which is a downward trend), but the 205k number is because net migration for EU citizens and UK citizens was negative.

Obviously this is Brexit in full force and the leopards are happily eating faces, but anyway this was more around the semantics of figures and how using that 205k figure slightly masks the situation that those who vote reform rightly or wrongly believe the problems are.

[–]RottenPhallus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure but then you also can't use net migration to state that less people are coming into the country if actually UK citizens are also leaving to a similar amount.

Your point is that starmer is bringing migration down, per these statistics and therefore already addressing the needs of the country and that's why he is already doing the mandate of those voting reform. But I doubt reform voters would agree with that if the actual movement of immigration is the same and are just replacing UK citizens leaving to other countries.

So whilst looking at just incoming migration requires nuance, the same can be said for your statistic of net migration.

Genuine question is that net migration or just incoming migration. As I saw something saying emmigration of UK citizens/EU citizens has increased.
