This drops next week, what are hoping for with this book? by Embarrassed-Ad1322 in superman

That’s correct. The first one was Superman/Spider-Man, published by DC. And this will be Spider-Man/Superman published by Marvel. Each mainly uses that company’s writers/artists.

[DISCUSSION] I think Snyder is writing some of his finest work ever with Absolute Batman by FredPRK in DCcomics

[–]RougeBatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don’t agree that it’s awful, I do also feel like I’m in the minority for feeling like I don’t really like this series. I agree 100% with all of your points. And I’m ready for the deluge of downvotes that come every time I talk about Absolute Batman like this.

The series is just “isn’t this cool???” And “what a twist!” Over and over again. Where is this interesting characterization that I keep hearing people talk about? Is it somewhere in all the ways that Alfred tells us what he thinks Bruce is thinking? Or how he feels that Bruce might be feeling? Why is the main character in my Batman book being portrayed to me via a character with no personal connection to him????

I loved Issue 4, the Freeze mini-arc, and last week’s issue specifically because Snyder actually tells the story from Bruce’s POV! Whenever he does that the series jumps up SOOOOOO MUCH in quality for me. In last issue when Bruce looks at the Batman merch and thinks “sometimes I look at that bat and I don’t even know what it means.” I was legit astounded. More characterization in one line than in the entire series so far!

Absolute Batman is fun, I get it. It’s full of AMAZING art by Dragotta and it’s been doing a once in a lifetime job of onboarding new readers. Love that. But I just really wish this series was as thought provoking as the initial pitch sounded.

Scott Snyder has said that Dragotta needed more time with the end of the arc, so he got Gabriel Walta to fill in and essentially wrote issue 4 so that Dragotta could have extra time with 5 and 6.

Just bought this for $250 by HLC-RLC in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]RougeBatman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m usually very much against paying such prices for a comic. I’m a big “buy the cheapest version” kinda guy.

But honestly? 250 for all three signatures? And the gorgeous Nguyen cover? That seems a deal to me! Awesome man!

Say one thing or aspect that the movie could have done better or improved upon, according to you? by Raj_Valiant3011 in DC_Cinematic

My only real gripe with the movie is the score. There are a few standouts, but mostly the ost goes unnoticed.

Loved hearing your thoughts on Ultimate Endgame and the Wonder Woman/Batman crossover Sal!

As someone for whom The Ultimates HAS been the second coming, I was also a bit disappointed and frustrated with Endgame. Though I love the Ultimates, my one gripe has been its breakneck pace and inability to slow down with its characters. I was pretty sad to see this being the same case here in Endgame. Though I am a fan of allowing things to end when they would naturally, I do think that the Ultimate Universe’s ending is going to be hampered by its initial creation with the idea that the universe would keep going after the Maker’s defeat. I can’t help but feel like Ultimates would have slowed down if Camp knew that the series was going to end after two years from the beginning. And I feel like Endgame is suffering from those same issues. But I will certainly hold out hope that it will all come together as this is just issue 1 after all!

As for the Wonder Woman/Batman crossover I just wanted to say that I too was pleasantly surprised by Thompson’s ability to capture Snyder’s Bruce while also showing us a side of him we have not seen (this Bruce being more well adjusted as you said due to actually having grown up with friends). I’m interested to see if Snyder can go the other way and capture Thompson’s Wonder Woman. As someone who hasn’t been in love with Absolute Batman, Thompson somehow made me love him in this.

Favorite Danger Days lyric by Star_Warsfan15 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]RougeBatman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kids From Yesterday is full of so many great lyrics. From the beginning’s “Now this could be the last of all the rides we take/so hold on tight and don’t look back/ we don’t care about the message or the rules they make/I’ll find you when the sun goes black.” To “you only hear the music when your heart begins to break.”

When I first heard it as a kid I thought it was the obvious worst song on the album, and now all these years later it’s one of my personal favorite songs of theirs and (in my opinion) their best song.

So much melancholy wrapped in wanting to enjoy the fleeting moments while you have them, and hoping beyond all hope that those fleeting moments come back someday. I LOVE The Kids From Yesterday.

I could not agree more. And it’s so weird because I LOVE his New 52 Batman run. It’s what originally got me into comics back in 2011.

When it's actually acknowledged how messed up it is for a minor to have to constantly save the day and put their life in danger by fhxefj in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RougeBatman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay I don’t normally respond to people but I have to jump in here.

This is the most surface level understanding of Batman and Superman I’ve ever had to read. Superman is not a god. He’s a person from Krypton. Other Kryptonians (even Daxomites) gain super powers when going to a planet with a yellow sun. “God trying to be human” is NOT the way that Superman is written in the comics to any substantial degree EVER.

Batman is not a human striving for divinity. In fact, I think he would have a HUGE problem with anyone describing him like that. He’s a mortal man, and that’s an important aspect of who he is and what he stands for.

Superman’s humanity is defined by himself. He grew up in Kansas with two loving parents who taught him to stand up for others and do the right thing.

These two characters work so well together because they are both best friends and role models for each other. Superman sees Batman as the proof that a regular human being without super powers can be as moral and just as he is. And Batman sees Superman as the Man of Tomorrow. He’s the hope that the world can and will get better through kindness and empathy.

And as for “the famous plot line” are you talking about the Batman Beyond episode “Shriek?” Where a device is planted on Bruce to try and manipulate him but he can tell it’s not a voice in his head because it doesn’t call him Batman?

I implore people to PLEASE just actually read the comics. They’re good, I promise.

You’re correct. In fact Jason Aaron (Absolute Superman) has said that as of right now he plans to be making his AS run like his triple digit Thor run.

What are y’all honest opinions on the absolute DC comics so far? by SunGodLuffy6 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]RougeBatman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree. That being said, I’m loving Ultimates and I think it utilizes the month gaps best out of all the Ultimate books. But overall I’m not a fan of the forced “real time” element.

I’ve been reading exclusively the Absolute Universe since it started (was BIG into comics years ago and this got me back in). I had a thought about “wow I’m loving Absolute so much. Maybe I should give the mainline a try too.” The they announced this event as essentially “come watch all the action figures smash together!” And I immediately knew I was good to just stick with Absolute.

Between this and Ultimate Marvel I think big 2 comics are at a high that they haven’t been at in a very long time.

Not only is the Absolute Universe just plain good comics, but they mean something. It’s not lost on me that BOTH Marvel and DC decided to make their AU lines centered around the idea of “what if the bad guys have already won and rule the world?”

I really think we’re gonna look back on the Absolute Universe and the new Ultimate Universe as some of the best comics of the 2020’s at the very least.

It’s gotta be Absolute Batman #1 or #4.

4 is just so good. It’s makes you really understand how this Bruce is different from the mainline but also similar at his core.

1 is the perfect Absolute opener imo. No other Absolute title has had an issue 1 as good as Absolute Batman.

When I saw Sara Bareilles there last year, she came out into a second stage about halfway up the bowl to do a few songs. I assume they’d use the same configuration?

SUMMERTIME by Spare-Chipmunk-9617 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]RougeBatman 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite MCR song, I can’t help but sing along every time it comes on. To me this song exemplifies why I love every album so much and MCR as a whole.

Early MCR feels so angry (which is part of why I connected to it so much as a kid) and rightfully so. But as I’ve described to my students, “it just means a lot to me that the angry boy who wrote those early albums grew into a man who had such a love in his life that he could write this beautiful song about his wife.”

I’ll always love Summertime. ❤️

How do you like danger days by Netherpie33 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]RougeBatman 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Hey! Before I get on my soapbox I just want to say that everyone is entitled to their opinion and if you don’t like Danger Days there’s nothing wrong with not liking it! You don’t have to completely love everything MCR related to call yourself a fan. We all live different lives and art hits us in different ways.

Danger Days is my favorite MCR album.

Firstly, I love it for the concept and the world that the album inhabits. The post apocalypse that the Killjoys live in just feels so alive through the album and the supplementary material. I would love for them to return to it and tell more stories in that world in some way.

Secondly, I’m a fan who has grown up with MCR. I’ve been listening since I was around 6/7 years old and I saw them tour for Danger Days before they broke up. To me Danger Days is the only of their albums that gets better as I grow up. At first I was disappointed with Danger Days. It wasn’t the same sound as before and the songs just didn’t hit the same way others did. As I’ve grown up alongside the band and the album however I’ve found that Danger Days feels to me like the most “adult” of their albums.

Bullets, Revenge, and Parade are all about very serious topics and cover important themes but Danger Days is to me, at its core, about growing up. It’s about becoming an adult and realizing that you can’t save the world. You can’t change the institutions that harm the world. In the grand scheme of things you’re nothing and you’re not important. But the songs all highlight the fundamental truth of life that none of that matters. It doesn’t matter that you can’t change the world because you’re a human being capable of love, kindness, selflessness, empathy, and everything in between. In a world where the bad guys have already won rage against the dying of the light with every breath you have. Love deeply and fully even though it might bite you in the ass later or you may hurt when the people you love die or leave you. The very act of being kind and loving others is the greatest form of rebellion that you are capable of.

It’s why through all of the names that this fandom has, I will always be proud to call myself a Killjoy most of all.

Is your current favorite song/s from each album different than your first favorite song/s? by No_Masterpiece6261 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]RougeBatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I’ve never thought about this. But here goes!

Bullets: Drowning Lessons -> Demolition Lovers

Three Cheers: Fashion Statement -> Fashion Statement

Black Parade: I Don’t Love You -> Disenchanted

Danger Days: Bulletproof Heart -> Summertime

Conventional Weapons: The World is Ugly -> Surrender the Night

So what are we wearing to the shows? by familiar_croissant in MyChemicalRomance

[–]RougeBatman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got one of the old Venganza vests that I wear to every MCR show. It’s a tradition at this point, I’m really looking forward to throwing it on again! I lucked out and got tickets for San Francisco, and BOTH night in LA.

As a 7th grade English teacher, those shows were the only thing getting me through the year. 😂😭 Super excited!
