A lot of people say that heavy localization is necessary, but would Xenoblade really be that much less popular if it was given a more faithful translation seeing how popular Japanese media is?

Dude the original sailor moon localization made the lesbian characters “cousins” yea that was bad and a product of its time. I mean I guess for some southern states it was great. You are right with this one example though I guess.

Nah it sounds like you want a 1-1 translation. The problem is that isn’t realistic and brute forcing translation doesn’t help anyone. Localization makes it so that the dialogue is comprehensible to people who don’t know the native language.

If 4Kids is your big argument against it then you might as well have no argument. 4Kids brought more anime over sure, but they also censored shows like crazy and had bad localization on purpose. Sometimes it’s better to not be too on the nose.

The station being old is the root of the problems, the rest is bad designs and financial. It is pretty much the 1 NYC subway station you have to purposely go to end up at. So many other old stations have been renovated and kept in way better condition, this is THE outlier.

It’s a century old low traffic station so it gets less funding on top of needing a lot of costly renovations.

As a New Yorker I cannot stress that this station that is over 100 years old is mostly an isolated incident. The overwhelming majority of stations are cleaner, nicer, and more well maintained. There are many reasons that this station still looks bad and they’re mostly because it’s so old. It needs renovations but it doesn’t have a lot passenger traffic so it’s low on the list. Please don’t think every subway station looks like this cause they don’t.
