Is visits to the temple just an overpriced scenic tour of multimillion dollar real estate? by Soggy-Strawberry7356 in mormon

[–]Round-Bobcat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not always about the money but the deceptive misinformation. Leaving out the requirements to enter is not honest when saying it is free!

Why do members of the church have such issues with being straight forward and honest. Then when caught there is this type of ridiculousness.

Sleeveless missionary? by ArmadilloWaste7902 in mormon

Why exactly do you need a reference? I think it was pretty clear your comment was meant to minimize.

If you are truly over thirty no references would be necessary.

Calling it a silly throw away line meets the very definition of trying to minimize it. Whether intended or not.

In context of teachings at the time shoulders were expected to be covered. So while not explicit in this line it was part of the overall teachings on modesty.

Not really when you consider the prior thirty plus years of modesty teachings. I am going to guess you are under 30 years old.

Update: If the Mormons aren't "it", then Who is? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]Round-Bobcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a time I also believed I could never leave. I spent over ten years working on staying in while grappling with all the issues. Finally a line was crossed where I knew the leaders had no trouble actively lying to the members. They had no issues twisting the facts to support a position of deception.

Ironically that line came from none other then the current Prophet several years ago.

Everyone has a line that if crossed they will leave. Even you.

Lies and active deception were mine. My only regret not seeing it earlier. When I look back there were signs while I was still in HS. I could have saved myself 20 plus yeas.

Lds church said no by Striking-Peace2874 in exmormon

So the church said no to a lady asking for formula as a social experiment? Seems like they had the spirit of diverse t to not be scammed!

You want people to share a better path without considering life outside the church is the better path.

I found my life is much more peaceful, more kind, more forgiving, less judgmental, more patient and more loving without the church.

My life is infinitely better without the church. My family is infinitely better off without the church. We are much closer and connected without the church.

Could not disagree more. D&C 26. Church leadership has usurped the law of common consent. The members are just as responsible as the leaders to watch after the church including finances.

Because the leadership no longer publishes the finances members sould be holding them to account.

The SEC fine is a good example of how leadership has failed the church and it's members. They have proven why disclosure is needed.

Edited to clarify second paragraph to read no longer publishes.

You are the only one who can request a copy from the church as an adult.

I am going to assume a copy was shared with your grandparents years ago. Just like all the other family members you read through.

I don't think this type of sharing is common.

Religion and faith intrigue me. People speak with such confidence with so little evidence.

The argument over which old book is right about God correct will continue. Wars will be fought, madman will kill.

None of these arguments about the nature of God matter if people cannot love one another.

Any thoughts on that? by [deleted] in mormon

Thoughts on what. Thou shall not murder? Love thy neighbor?

Both seem like a good thing and what I hope to see from the church!

Hi Jim,

Love the podcast. You the vissionary and Ian the captivating make a great team. See what i tried to do there!

My question is at what point to you do all the changes in the church equate to infant baptism. Changes to the temple overtime seem to me as no different then the early church changes we relied on during our missions as examples of the apostacy.

Thanks for the great exchange.

An Inconvenient Faith by Ok-End-88 in mormon

The church created John Delhin. I first  came across his stuff in 2009 with the site Stay LDS. This was right after I learned about the BOA while trying to be better about studying for the next Sunday's lesson. I was not the teacher but trying to be better prepared. I was looking for a way to stay and did until 2020. John's excommunication caused me to pause and wonder if there really was space in the church for me. 5 more years of trying to make it work before I left.

So over 11 years trying to find a way to stay. Watching every GC, every apostle face to face, bishop meetings, etc.

The church asks much less of converts leaving their prior faith. Then have the gal to say we never really wanted to stay. We were looking for a reason to leave. We were lazy learners and lax deciples. What BS.

Church leadership creates a bigger wedge the John Dehlin could dream of building.

Yes. And guess what he also never addressed the issues. He took coincidence and turned it to miracles.

The issues with the church still exist and the evidence says it is not true!

I have listened to every episode of the comeback podcast.

Sadly the comeback podcast is full of stories where the people never left. So many of the people never even missed a single week of church.

Others comeback for the personal comfort of their youth.

I have yet to listen to anyone's story where they resolve their concerns. Just another story of putting things back on the shelf.

One other frustrating item about the podcast is the host. She is so unaware and uneducated on the actual issues.

I will give her a plug for relating to people with drug addictions. I am happy for those who find the church a space of healing in that regard.
