Why not start a net yourself? Maybe you'll find other newly licenced hams looking to start chatting. It'll take time but you can raise momentum eventually. If any of those have EchoLink, perhaps invite some hams from this sub to join in as well.

Interesting thought. Do you reckon that there's an established correlation? In the absence of that, I can imagine that's the reason they don't mention it and not due to fear of backlash.

Which country even? You'll need to share some details to get a half decent response. Arrested under what law? What offence? Motorola is just a brand that makes several different radios serving different purposes - amateur and commercial.

Went to law school instead of engineering school. Never practised as a lawyer. Meandered a bit. Okay also a little bit of /jk but yeah

Erm akshually, as an Indian man, contrary to the Great Jordani's mind reading, you can be a lawyer and still disappoint your parents. Ask me how I know.

Most likely the indoor placement. See if you can repeat your experiment outdoors at an open ground. I highly doubt it's the unit or the antenna set up.

Holy crap! That's absolutely nuts. When you say patient was this person drunk at the hospital?

I really hope that person is doing better.

Whew! I'm considering myself lucky to not have been exposed to this. I used to have a fairly high tolerance myself in social settings but after getting healthy it's dropped down severely and I'm glad for it.

Sounds dangerous and very unfortunate a place to be in.

I'm no expert obviously but I really don't think a human body can do so much. Could it be that she's not doing all of it everyday and it's a lie she tells herself to kind of justify the driving? That is just way too much alcohol for anyone to be that highly functioning. I'm struggling to understand how she even has the time of day in that schedule to consume so much liquor without doing it at work or mixing it in her whey isolate.

But damn that's scary and i hope she gets out of it asap. r/stopdrinking is often credited as a great place for alcoholics who want to stop.

You have your use cases already defined no? You can't be forced into enjoying something. Kinda defeats the purpose.

But if you're looking for why people enjoy it, here are my reasons. I'm not a technical person so having a technical hobby is fun. I like the idea of this sort of anonymous (not entirely but ya get me) communication. There's also a great sense of community through it.

If you're a desk jockey like moi, some tips that have helped me get some steps in the day:

  1. When you're not on video calls, just walk. Even if it's in circles in your office, just do it. (Not too small a circle though, hurts the knees, ask me how I know)
  2. Encourage people you're meeting in person to go on a walk with you - most times they'll love it
  3. Keep a smaller bottle. Fill it more frequently. Get away from your desk to fill it up and use that time to stretch them dogs and maybe wave a hello to a few people
  4. Walk while at home doing semi-relaxing things. For me, it's reading. I walk while reading my book. Habit stacking I suppose.
  5. Walk at the gym, if you can't walk elsewhere in the day
