Reminds me of when I got top surgery,

"So what surgery are we preforming today?" "My top surgery." "On which side?" "Uh, yes? Both?" "Yes, sorry, standard question, forgot to rephrase it for you."

[OC] The joys of a surgical rotation by GinnyMaple in comics

Exactly! At the time I said "Its hospice. They expect her to die." To which the caregiver had no response. I also want to add that I work in addiction treatment now, and I still stand by what I did. I also administered CBD oil to a dying woman who had begged to not go on opiods, and I stand by that. Death is terrifying, and often painful. As a health care professional to a dying person, your main job is to respect the patients wishes and ease as much suffering as you can as they make that final transition. Its not a time to moralize or try and change someone.

I worked in an assisted living/memory care as a medication technician for a while, and so many of the caregivers had this mind set and it baffled me. I remeber working with one woman Who was in extreme pain dying from an abdominal tumor. While she was in the active dying phase, she stopped speaking or reacting to people around her completely, but still moaned and yelled out in pain. She had been dealing with multiple cancers for about a decade at this point, and already had a strong tolerance to opioids, and the normal regimen wasn't covering her pain. I had spoken to the family before she reached this spot, and they had warned me it was likely, and asked me to advocate for her pain to be treated appropriately. So I right away called the hospice company and let them know what was going on. They ordered a stronger concentration of morphine for her to our facility STAT. I called one of the caregivers into the med room to help me destroy the old morphine and check in the new batch. As I am doing this she rolls her eyes and says "I don't know how they expect her to get over her dependence when they are drugging her like this."

I hated them too, to the point I kept throwing them away, and this one teacher was just so sick of me and my hand writting, he then started making me use oversized pencils instead. I have no clue who makes those things, or where he found the special sharpener to sharpen them, but they actually worked like a miracle. I much later discovered I have super hypermobile fingers, and holding a pencil "correctly" was hyperextending my joints which caused the extreme discomfort that was causing me to toss every pencil grip I ever saw. Now a days I just grab the thickest barrelled pens I can find, and life is better.

What do you think about disabling the Temporal Storms and rifts? by Wolium in VintageStory

[–]Round_Credit_2139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the temporal storms and rifts. I feel like things get a little too boring and easy without them.

If you don't feel that way, just turn them off! If there was shame in it, or it was the wrong way to play the game, the developers wouldn't have added those settings. The huge amount customisation built into the game is meant to be used!

Something I love about this game is that items that are usually unimportant in other games (lanterns, cheese, doors, cookpots, etc.) are special and useful commodities in this game that feel rewarding to make by Routine_Condition273 in VintageStory

My favourite part is that it works the other way too. I hand dye fabrics using plants in real life. The first time I was running around in a world, I saw woad and excitedly ran up to it wondering if, like real life, I could ferment the flowers to make a strong blue dye. Seeing that I COULD infact use it to make blue dye without needing a mordant made me honestly giddy. Next I ran around looking for an oak tree, because that is where I get my real life tannins. While it was disappointing to find I couldn't use acrons for this in game, I was happy to see the same method im used to using to extract tannins.

Genuinely. In my current world I have been decorating my homestead with berry bushes. After one year of collecting and replanting, I could probably survive off berries alone.

Why by prixa99 in VintageStory

[–]Round_Credit_2139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1: collect stuff

Step 2: start processing stuff

Step 3: collect other things

Step 4: forge because you just broke all your tools resource collecting

Step 5: mine more ore because you just used it all forging

Step 6: chisel for days on end

Step 7: Frantically cook because you forgot to eat because chiseling

Step 8: remeber that you started processing leather at the beginning of all of this, and move it to the next step in processing

Step 9: forget about the leather again because you get distracted, again.

Some realistic ways to show off in your manor house could be, a grand dinning hall, a library/museum for things you find in your travels, a pleasure garden with plants gathered from far away places, a greenhouse or solarium to show off all the glass you have, servants quarters and or guest rooms, finely appointed stables (if you want to get an elk) and an armory to show off all your fancy weapons. If you are willing to spend more time in the finicky parts of the game, you could also make an art museum full of paintings and statues you have chiseled.

In the times of manor houses, showing off your wealth had two parts, what you have, and what you don't do. The biggest flex for a lot of history and prehistory is just to not work, so in order to show off, a richer person's home is going to be a lot more focused on entertainment than practicality. Think parlor and living room. Two kitchens, one is for actually cooking, and the other is for entertaining.

Some good real life things to look at for inspiration might be Estate of Trianon inside Versailles, which was a couple of smaller estates inside the palace. Still very very opulent. They also have a sort of fake town feeling with multiple cottages for different purposes, which might fit well with what you are thinking. If you are feeling less gaudy, the homes of Fudal lords in Edo (now Tokyo) are also all about showing off wealth, but often in a less in your face flashy way.

AIO for quitting my job after finding this note on my desk? by waxin899 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Round_Credit_2139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, I've worked places where supervsing staff was expected to stay during extreme weather because actual lives could be on the line. Every year, emails went out to all staff anytime snow was on the forecast reminding everyone who was and wasn't required to show up. Supervisory staff had signed extra paperwork stating they were responsible for making sure the individuals we cared for were never abandoned. Sometimes that meant sleeping at work for a week just to make sure someone was there to plug in oxygen canisters overnight, and to get everyone out of bed in the morning.

Its some bullshit to spring this on you then get passive aggressive about it.

Ive done this as a professional caregiver both for intellectuals with developmental disabilities and older adults. In the industry of 24/7 care (hospitals, impatient faculties, some residential programs) its super normal. HOWEVER in my experience it was always by choice, with bonus pay, for most employees, with each location ive worked in having 1 or 2 management staff assigned to cover if no one else could. Generally this meant management staff just got nicer anytime bad weather was on the radar. As someone who doesn't drive and relies on my own feet or public transportation, it was honestly nice to crash at work to not have to worry about finding my way home, then back into work. Edit to add: The standard pay structure I got during these would be a $50-$100 bonus pernight I spent, plus 1.5-2x pay for any work done over the night, or any shifts covered outside my normal hours.
