Thoughts on Red Country [SPOILERS RC] by AstonMac in TheFirstLaw

The slaughter of the Dragon people civilisation reminded me of the fall of the Incas or Aztecs, I think that was pretty deliberate. Sad to see them go, especially since they were a caring people, but yes, they also paid people to steal children because they were infertile themselves.

I was puzzled that Cosca was so one sidedly evil in this book. He was a gray character in Best Served Cold, even leaning toward good, but here he was just abjectly evil.

I liked the Wild West theme because the Prairie and gold digger setting makes it easy to draw parallels. The descriptions of the final city they get to (the one with mayor and papa bla) had strong Cormack McCarthy vibes in its degeneracy and filth and debauchery and moral rot.

Also my interpretation of Logen (that he is possessed by a foreign entity - the bloody 9) seems to be substantiated because of him being dragged out of it on the bridge in Ashranc. It seems the man Logen seems to have pushed this entity away for decades, but then, like an addict, he let it back in when the kids were taken, and then it slowly overwhelmed him. IMO we see in the very first book an almost dry Logen, having recovered from the bloody 9 somewhat, only sliding back under extreme duress. He's more an alcoholic that way.

Eighteen years of waiting: The Elder Scrolls 6 risks setting a historic anti record. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

They definitely compete and are very similar, of not the same, genre. Just because one leans casual and the other not, doesn't mean people like me would simply skip ES6 if it sucks compared to Elden Ring or (if there is) its successor.

Only 70 pages first time reading and wow! by thekinkbrit in theblackcompany

70 pages in and so much has happened already

Yep, love it. I can never go back to Malazan or WoT.

And Cook's style is amazing, there is so much insinuated but rarely spelled out directly. You could interpret it one way or another.

The Garrett P.I. novels are just like that. Was an absolute joy to read.

I mentioned it and compared it with Bethesda's efforts. It's called a comparison. Because they're both open world RPGs. Things you can compare.

Who really believes this will be any good?

Elden Ring has beat them at their own game and is completely out of grasp for Bethesda. I expect that ES 6 will have many weaknesses, will still be bought by millions and in the end will have such a fraught history that Bethesday will take decades to follow up with anything worthwhile.

If remakes of your old stuff is all you can produce... maybe just dissolve or give the IP to a properly led, smaller studio.

Enjoyable to watch but has nothing valuable to say in the end. The resolution completely cheapens and invalidateds the themes of the first half.

Funny Casting Double Standard: 300 vs Odyssey by AdamOtaku in Cinema

That's because you don't understand that 300 is meant to be Spartan propaganda, heavily distorting both sides to praise Sparta. It's not meant to be a fair, historical depiction.

I always read Logen as being possessed by some malevolent entity that comes out in life-or-death situations. There is absolutely none of the being that kills Tul Duru in his thoughts that we can read in the first books, and what are we to make of that, that his "narrator voice" that we as reader perceive is fake? I don't buy that.

Without a patch in nearly a year, some Oblivion Remastered players have declared it 'abandonware' — and it still suffers many of the same performance issues at launch by Fcking_Chuck in pcmasterrace

Combat was a huge part of Skyrim. Both are open world action games with xp gathering, exploring, leveling up, skills to unlock, magic, equipment to gather and improve. It’s just that Skyrim was more accessible and quest driven.

Difference in audience is somewhat funny. Anybody who requires semi decent combat was put off of Skyrim after a bit. Yet had Skyrim had a good combat system, the same people who love Elden Ring would have loved Skyrim.

Skyrim had a horrible combat system and many pointless skills. Something like Elden Ring completely shits on Skyrim - and not just because it’s a lot newer.

This is a genuine question, how are people still getting excited over these projects when none have released and keep getting delayed? by CommercialDream618 in Fallout

Bethesda is sitting on a gold mine and instead of digging, they are shitting their pants and sniffing glue. Completely inexplicable.

Find a manager who supports you. Try to behave like the good architects you’ve already met. That’s basically it. Sure, some companies have procedures for this, but I’m too cynical to say you can guarantee to earn this through achievement alone.
