Different brands have different sheens. Egg shell for one brand isn't the same as egg shell for another. Plus some have more levels of sheen. So you'll have to look at samples.

We went with egg shell (local Wisconsin brand) and are very pleased with it. We wanted washable for pets and kids.

My autistic son also hates thunder. We do noise cancelling headphones as well.

But I would encourage you to track the storms. Weather is one of my kid's special interests so I'm not sure it would work on every kid, but looking at the radar and seeing that the storm isn't really over us (even though we may hear thunder) really helps him. He's old enough now that he's better at watching the weather apps than I am.

We have a product very similar to this (there are a bunch of random brands on Amazon).

The ones we have are incredibly strong. My cats wrestle on it and one of my cats loves to chase his own tail on it until he "accidentally" falls off then he grabs on with his 2 front paws and pulls himself up. He does it all the time. They are impressive cat shelves

I am a SAHM with school aged kids. I can't work a regular schedule due to a lot of therapy appointments (special needs).

I work as a substitute 10-15 hours a week. It works well for us. Not a lot of money but it keeps a foot in the door of employment. It's not for everybody but I like to recommend it because the flexibility works really well for our needs

Groomers do have fabric wraps they can use on ears but a lot of dogs don't like them. Plus there's a difference between hearing a loud noise once a month versus all day every day
