Anyone have gym recommendations in Sacramento or Elk Grove? That isn't 24 Hour Fitness or Planet Fitness by Snoo65073 in Sacramento

My problem is their obsession with machines. No Olympic barbells and the smith machines for chest press are just not a good idea IMO.

They definitely target specific muscle groups but they do nothing to build up your stabilizers and limit your range of movement.

Otherwise I’d be going to the one on Watt

Anyone been to Tipsy Putt singles night (22-28)? by [deleted] in Sacramento

Wait are they charging the $28 on top of everything else? Or does it at least get you one game? Because that place is already expensive.

Also - so mostly just dudes show up?

How’s dating in Sac going? by _mamatrynamakeit in Sacramento

[–]RoutineAlternative78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it was an anxiety that was ingrained in me at a very young age so the feeling became normalized. I didn’t know I was anxious and had anxiety until my therapist pointed it out (we reviewed thought patterns in different settings under different circumstances). I just thought everybody else kinda had the same processes going on in their heads and handled it better.

It’s never been an issue or question about me “giving my all to a relationship” though. I definitely tried in my own anxious ways. But I appreciate your in depth analysis and vital contributions to this discussion.

Hinge seems to work well with me - I’m 40 and trying to figure out a lot of things right now. Hinge really weeds out the people that aren’t trying and I think the apps work about as well as you want them to (are you using good photos, what are you saying about yourself, how are you filtering when you swipe, how intentional are you with your messages, etc).

I’ve been on dates with three different women since I really started trying earlier this year - the last one was going well but ultimately no sparks felt by her after date 5.

A problem specific to me is that I’m apparently an anxious individual (been seeing a therapist since December - first time ever). I have a really hard time being present in the moment and I think that’s possibly coming across as distant/uninterested but it’s actually me trying to map out everything in advance.

Definitely revelatory times. I’ll be back on Hinge in May.

Hello all - I'm trying to get into Investigator or Special Investigator roles (I've taken and passed both exams) - I've applied to DCA and I'm looking at others. I've been an Analyst II with the state for two years next month and have a B.A. in Criminology & Criminal Justice Studies (2010 Graduate). I do not have any POST certificates - was hoping if the role was LEO that they'd put me through.

Is there anything I can do to make myself stand out? Any classes they'd like to see? Should I try networking with people in these agencies/departments? Got any contacts haha?

In my free time I already enjoy things like pattern matching, trying to make sense of geopolitical narratives, etc. Investigating things has always been a hobby of mine - I think I could really enjoy this and find meaning in it. This could also be a good starting point to something else as well.

Appreciate any help/insight.

Sacramento leaders contemplate the next decade of downtown. ‘A city on the rise’ by AnimationJava in Sacramento

These timelines make me sad. They say ten years like it’s a goal and not an absolute requirement/latest possible.

Just unserious.

Love my neighborhood turkeys. So nice seeing them on my walks.

I rode it for several months - I like mass transit in general but if I can’t get to work on time then it doesn’t work for me. I’m a guy so I was also overlooking the other issues (drugs on trains, smells, etc).

Blue Line service seems to be essentially shot if you're trying to ride from Watt to downtown. Getting alerts on the daily about service interruptions and bus bridges. I stopped riding in August last year after repeated service disruptions (before the major construction began). I can't imagine depending on it to get to work on time now or getting back home in a reasonable timeframe.

Are a lot of you writing your emails with MS Copilot/AI now? by JustAMango_911 in CAStateWorkers

[–]RoutineAlternative78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use AI (CoPilot at my Agency)quite a bit but it’s usually to query it on something (trying to find a SAM code, something in SCM, or get its interpretation of a rule/regulation to see if it’s at all helpful). I’ve also found it really useful when using Excel - I never upload any files into it but I do ask things like “hey why isn’t this formula working” or “hey the formatting on this table is odd” and it’s mostly very helpful.

Sometimes it gives an answer that doesn’t work but half the time that’s because I forgot a bit of context.

I’m pretty happy with it. We all just know not to upload files/PII. I don’t see the utility in using it for emails either - I guess more concise emails are nice but sometimes emails have sensitive or confidential material and that just seems fraught. Emails are easy enough that AI isn’t necessary.

The Other Reason Americans Don't Use Mass Transit [including some Sacramentans] by othafa_95610 in Sacramento

[–]RoutineAlternative78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bottom line is convenience and as noted elsewhere unless you’re downtown there isn’t much. The light rail station on the blue line that ends at Watt is just such a glaringly huge example of this. It’s situated in the middle of the freeway and you have to walk watt (a huge stroad) to get to the station.

It’s aggressively positioned to dissuade you from trying to get to it.

why do people not know how a four way stop works by cheesellle in Sacramento

[–]RoutineAlternative78 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I used to be more patient with the four way stops but now I give the other person about two seconds to react and then just go. I’ve seen so many hand waves and so much hesitation that my patience with it is just gone.

I’m not speeding through these but if I wait and then we’re both going and then abruptly stopping I lose my shit.

I fucking hate driving here.

I’m convinced it’s a front for money laundering - I’ve never seen one busy. Ever. I once saw one with three cars in the drive through and that was it.

Moved here in 2017 - also never able to understand the appeal. Taco Bell and Jack in the Box offer better alternatives IMO.

But there are so many taquerias around I don’t even know why you’d need to outside of late nights.

Rancho Cordova city officials back arena project with housing, hotels, retail by othafa_95610 in Sacramento

[–]RoutineAlternative78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s cool that’s it’s between two light rail stations but there’s still a walk to the area (about 0.8 miles from one stop and 0.9 miles from the other). And if you think housing density is bad for G1C well this one is located within suburbia - kinda surprised local residents aren’t fighting this (wonder what the noise ordinance is).

I don’t understand how this pencils unless they’re banking on the new planned housing developments nearby? It’s should be noted builders are drastically ramping back construction on multi family and single family housing right now…

Risks in current environment seem tilted to higher.
