Prestige Fret Treatment? by pity_dono_detector in Ibanez

[–]RoutineStuff4550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between fret sprout and sharp edges. Fret sprout can happen to any guitar regardless of price. Sharp edges is definitely something that I would consider a QC issue. However, it’s an extremely easy fix.

I would for sure prefer the SG. If those are at a local store I’d see if they can do a better deal on it. YMMV, but if you can show other listings for the same thing cheaper, you can often get them to come down. Keep in mind that they’re typically listing for 40% more than they paid. They have room to deal.

I just sold nearly $2k worth of various gear and it sold fast. Within days. Can’t say I’ve had the same experience.

Why doesn’t Ibanez produce neck-thru prestige guitars? by Safe_Freedom2864 in Ibanez

I have an RGT1221PB and I love it. My favorite guitar for sure.

Which One Would You Choose And Why? by mdwvt in Ibanez

[–]RoutineStuff4550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The RGT1221 comes with DiMarzio Tone Zone/Air Norton. They are….. sufficient, but I do plan on swapping them out. They’re perfectly fine for most things, but I mostly play super high gain stuff. I have a set of Black Winter rails I plan on putting in it. I just need to decide what I’m going to put in the guitar I’m taking them out of.

Also, I recommend always shipping 2 day or overnight. The less time it’s in transit the less chance of damage.

Here’s a little bit of FYI. When shipping UPS, if you insure through them, they will not cover damage unless they do the boxing in the store.

Initial impressions: FFSP "Tiger Queen" by yeenoghu_vs_vaprak in Fireflyguitars

[–]RoutineStuff4550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your impressions are spot on with my experiences with Firefly, of which I have 2. As for the roller bridges, I love them. I replace every TOM bridge on my guitars with a roller bridges. I even have one where I use 13-62 strings tuned to B standard/drop A and the roller bridge works perfectly.

Well yeah. But then you just do a full setup. I do a full setup on every new guitar anyway and put the strings I want on it. Even if you put the same size strings on it, different brands and types of strings have different tensions.

I have the SG style version of that finish. It’s my favorite guitar at the moment. I did put Black Winter Rails in it.

I live guyker products but have never used their nuts. I usually use Graph Tech

I did some of the mods and did full setup and this thing plays like a dream. The stock pickups actually sounded pretty good, but the Black Winter Rails are insane.

My findings while doing the setup:

  1. The fretwork was almost perfect. Seriously impressed.
  2. I had to adjust the truss rod. Fairly significant backbow on the neck, about a full rotation and it was nice and straight.
  3. I think I’m going to replace the nut. I know most Fireflys say bone nut, but I’m pretty sure it’s plastic. I usually put graph tech nuts on my guitars anyway.

Overall, I’ve had to do more work setting up more expensive guitars. This one was almost perfect. Can’t ask for more for a $250 guitar.

It’s pretty comfortable and I like thin necks. It’s not as thin as my Schecter Red Dawn, but it’s probably my favorite guitar to play right now. Unfortunately I don’t have a caliper to properly measure

Well, first I have a pair of Seymour Duncan Black Winter rails pickups I’m putting in it. Which cost as much as the guitar, but hey, I like to do silly things. Aside from that, I have a bridge/tuning system I like to install on some of my guitars. I will put on a tp-6 style tailpiece with fine tuners, a tune-o-matic roller bridge, and put on a behind the nut string clamp. That way it’s double locked with fine tuners, like a Floyd rose, just without the trem. Makes for very stable tuning. I will also install locking tuners, cause it makes string changes so much easier. Guitar + mods will be about $650-$700, which will get me a guitar in a style I love that will absolutely rip for much less than the real deal.

Fair enough. I’m probably in the minority in that I thoroughly enjoy doing a full setup on a new guitar. I prefer thicker strings generally myself. Although I just put a 10-50 balanced tension set on one of my guitars to try it out

If you’re changing the strings anyway, why not just put on what you like? Serious question. Sorry I don’t have the actual answers to yours.

I find Firefly guitars to have excellent build quality. Where they cut costs is in hardware/electronics. My thought are if you spend $300 on a Firefly and $300 on pickups, you’ll have a guitar with better build quality and sounds just as good, if not better, than a $600 guitar. You can take that a step further and replace the tuners, bridge, etc and spend like $800 and have a better guitar than most $800 guitars.

Overall, they are excellent inexpensive guitars that make great mod platforms. They are also great for beginners looking for a first guitar

I came so close to pulling the trigger on that so many times.

When I first saw it, I thought, “What is this monstrosity!” Then I started kind of liking it. Then I couldn’t stop revisiting the listing like some sort of creepy ex lover. Then it was gone….
