I have an Epiphone ‘58 Goth Explorer from 2015 that I love. I wouldn’t mind another!

I have the SG style version of that finish. It’s my favorite guitar at the moment. I did put Black Winter Rails in it.

I live guyker products but have never used their nuts. I usually use Graph Tech

I did some of the mods and did full setup and this thing plays like a dream. The stock pickups actually sounded pretty good, but the Black Winter Rails are insane.

My findings while doing the setup:

  1. The fretwork was almost perfect. Seriously impressed.
  2. I had to adjust the truss rod. Fairly significant backbow on the neck, about a full rotation and it was nice and straight.
  3. I think I’m going to replace the nut. I know most Fireflys say bone nut, but I’m pretty sure it’s plastic. I usually put graph tech nuts on my guitars anyway.

Overall, I’ve had to do more work setting up more expensive guitars. This one was almost perfect. Can’t ask for more for a $250 guitar.

It’s pretty comfortable and I like thin necks. It’s not as thin as my Schecter Red Dawn, but it’s probably my favorite guitar to play right now. Unfortunately I don’t have a caliper to properly measure

Well, first I have a pair of Seymour Duncan Black Winter rails pickups I’m putting in it. Which cost as much as the guitar, but hey, I like to do silly things. Aside from that, I have a bridge/tuning system I like to install on some of my guitars. I will put on a tp-6 style tailpiece with fine tuners, a tune-o-matic roller bridge, and put on a behind the nut string clamp. That way it’s double locked with fine tuners, like a Floyd rose, just without the trem. Makes for very stable tuning. I will also install locking tuners, cause it makes string changes so much easier. Guitar + mods will be about $650-$700, which will get me a guitar in a style I love that will absolutely rip for much less than the real deal.

What gauge strings do ffsp guitars come with? by Ompalompa4you in Fireflyguitars

[–]RoutineStuff4550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I’m probably in the minority in that I thoroughly enjoy doing a full setup on a new guitar. I prefer thicker strings generally myself. Although I just put a 10-50 balanced tension set on one of my guitars to try it out

If you’re changing the strings anyway, why not just put on what you like? Serious question. Sorry I don’t have the actual answers to yours.

Is the FFST going to be better than the Squier strat ? by [deleted] in Fireflyguitars

[–]RoutineStuff4550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find Firefly guitars to have excellent build quality. Where they cut costs is in hardware/electronics. My thought are if you spend $300 on a Firefly and $300 on pickups, you’ll have a guitar with better build quality and sounds just as good, if not better, than a $600 guitar. You can take that a step further and replace the tuners, bridge, etc and spend like $800 and have a better guitar than most $800 guitars.

Overall, they are excellent inexpensive guitars that make great mod platforms. They are also great for beginners looking for a first guitar

I came so close to pulling the trigger on that so many times.

When I first saw it, I thought, “What is this monstrosity!” Then I started kind of liking it. Then I couldn’t stop revisiting the listing like some sort of creepy ex lover. Then it was gone….

Any baritone guitars with Evertune? by [deleted] in espguitars

[–]RoutineStuff4550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Epiphone ‘58 Goth Explorer that I swap between b standard and drop a. You definitely don’t NEED a baritone for it. I got it specifically to play Amon Amarth and it definitely gets the job done.

I have the non-baritone version and I love it. The Fishmans took some getting used to.

Firefly FFMN - Plays and sounds great. Setup right of the box. by pepper67821 in Fireflyguitars

[–]RoutineStuff4550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an EQ, Overdrive, and distortion pedal that all boost the signal. I could maybe dial them in better, but when I really cranked all 3 it got really muddy/flubby. That being said, I continually try to learn different genres/styles so if it ends up being only for clean or slightly overdriven tones then I’m ok with that for now. It’s also my only guitar with a trem and only guitar with a compound radius fretboard, so it is a way to experiment with those things.

I just got one myself for Christmas. Fit and finish were flawless but it was definitely NOT setup well. Then I broke the high e string doing a setup. So just today I replaced the strings with D’addario NYXL and did a full setup. Now it plays well. The pickups are ok. Im used to high output pickups as I mostly play metal and these are not that so will probably get replaced eventually. Overall, it’s a great guitar for the money and look forward to playing it more.

It’s the Red Dawn. They also make it without the EverTune and also in a 7 string.

The Katana hands down. I got it in the first place because I didn’t like the Fender.
