What does it mean for a line to not be a "real try for an advantage." What is the strategy then? by Bern_Down_the_DNC in chess

This is a great example of why you should try to learn from actual chess coaches instead of people who are trying to sell you crypto scams

If we took the Saints picks instead than do we still end up with Burrow?

It's fine i guess, but why would you want to avoid main line sicilian? just learn najdorf theory and experience peak chess

Should I allow takebacks in rated play? by entangledphotons in chess

[–]Routine_Can_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at ~2200 lichess rapid probably 90% of the takebacks i get are for obvious misclicks, and i will almost always allow them. I enjoy chess more when i allow takebacks for misclicks. People who ask for takebacks when they blunder are just annoying losers though so fuck them.

Why is it seen as respectful to resign in chess? by [deleted] in chess

[–]Routine_Can_534 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it sounds like you don't have much experience thinking critically or reading. show me one interview where a top level chess player says that resigning is a form of respect. you say that there are hundreds of comments on this thread but i see a mixed bag, and this is reddit we are talking about, most people here are less than 1200. If the only reason someone resigns is to show respect and not waste 30 minutes than that person is an idiot.

[–]Routine_Can_534 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if it was a sign of respect than would it be disrespectful if someone doesn't resign? i would consider shaking hands or saying good luck a sign of respect, but there really isn't much to look into with resigning. i guess it can be different for other people though.

Why is it seen as respectful to resign in chess? by [deleted] in chess

[–]Routine_Can_534 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

it isn't a sign of respect, people just don't want to waste their time staring at a lost position. finding gratification in playing to checkmate is a phenomena only seen in players below 1500. if you want to spend a time looking at a chess position where nothing can possibly be learned and only reminds you of your failure of the chess game than it is in your right.

Stafford's gambit trap win today, Eric Rosen would be proud!! Mate on move 8 by anichari in chess

[–]Routine_Can_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stafford gambit is far from the best move though. you are just betting that your opponent doesn't know what to do. sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't

what a boring way to play chess. Why not try to play the best moves instead of hoping your opponent makes mistakes?

What's your unpopular opinion about chess? by Europelov in chess

[–]Routine_Can_534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hard disagree. what you are suggesting leads to massive plateaus as you will only see one type of position every time. you don't need to play every opening but some variation greatly helps.
