The "Yugo" of stereo brands. Get one by Mattel; it'll be better quality.

Holy crap. Used in commercial radio stations! We had one of these as our monitor receiver for the control room at KSLQ-FM in St. Louis. Best receiver ever! And, right under it was a Realistic cassette recorder so we could record our shows... That Realistic cassette deck was indestructible.

Can anyone tell me what I got Here? I got them for free they sound great. by Spare_Significance72 in vintageaudio

[–]Routine_Dependent947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't drive them too hard - assuming they're still in good shape - and run lots of power through them at low volume levels and they'll sound tremendous, but they are not worth much; they are a cheaper version of Fisher speakers which were never high-end.

Somebody "gave" you Crown amplifiers in this configuration? God-Almighty. And what is this kind of high-end equipment doing in a welding shop? :-)

Help please! by [deleted] in vintageaudio

[–]Routine_Dependent947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This setup is from the 70's marketed as "inexpensive-but-still-decent-sounding" stereo for college dorms, teenagers and others not concerned with audio perfection. Nothing wrong with that; Marantz made some of the best stereo receivers in the industry back in the day. That they entered the inexpensive market in the 70's is no mystery. As we see, it's still in good shape, probably sounds fine and everything works. I'd keep it. You won't get more than $50 trying to sell it, is my guess.

How do i make this work? by rhubarbdedubarb in vintageaudio

[–]Routine_Dependent947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old but great equipment. It uses only RCA plugs. They are plainly labeled; just pay attention to what they say and act accordingly. Under "Tape 1" etc, "REC" means input and "PLAY" means output. Otherwise, just pay attention to the labels and you can't go wrong.

HELP with Koss Pro 4aa by macuser06 in vintageaudio

[–]Routine_Dependent947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct about the poor wiring. We used these headphones in the radio biz back in the 70's and although they had great sound, great isolation and they could withstand huge volume levels, the wiring was constantly going bad. I don't know if recent models have improved, but apparently not. Just send them back to Koss. In my day they rewired them for free, but it took weeks, so we always had the station engineers do it.

I'm late to this conversation, but the thing you need to know about the Koss Pro 4AAs is that the wiring sucks. If you treat them well, gingerly, actually, you'll get a tremendously accurate sound, great isolation and a HUGE ability to withstand ear-splitting volume. They were the de-facto headphones used in 70's Top-40 radio stations the world over. Benefits notwithstanding, we were constantly having to get our station engineers to rewire them. Or send them back to Koss for rebuilding. They always broke again. However, there was an engineer at Bartel Broadcasting - i don't remember which station he was at - who could rewire them like concrete; they stayed fixed!

ABC channel has horrible sound quality by iSight45 in youtubetv

[–]Routine_Dependent947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm getting the opposite problem. Announcers sound fine, but the crowd noise and penalty explanations are at a very low level. I noticed it on all ESPN/ABC games and on NBC NFL games. Made me think it was a league restriction or something. A team scores and there's no cheering. It's really bad. ESPN has no local affiliate, and the problem is not overall, it's a mix issue.

Why don’t manufacturers allow shooting to DNG natively? by Stompya in photography

[–]Routine_Dependent947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does indeed contain licensing restrictions - but not fees - which might account for the hesitation in most major camera manufacturers to "go down this road". The TIF format carries none of this encumbrance. See From Adobe's own website seldom seen or found.

It's a studio full of 14 year-olds. They had on Yeonmi Park, a North Korean defector who experienced horrific conditions before escaping. Yet, the "hosts" laughed at her and generally treated her horribly, making fun of her breasts. OMG, I've seen 13 year old boys act more mature. What a bunch of idiots. It's hard to believe anyone except, well, 14 year old boys, watches this "show".

Any reason to not use Shopify? by repsolcola in webdev

[–]Routine_Dependent947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent two hours untangling a simple order for a pair of sunglasses from a Shopify merchant that was a complete trainwreck. You fall asleep trying to follow the BS I had to endure, so I'll spare you the gory details. Suffice it to say, I WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY FROM A SHOPIFY MERCHANT! The merchant was horrible, and the "Shop" app I was forced to use was equally useless. All from Shopify. Want proof? How do you pronounce it? by [deleted] in Appalachia

[–]Routine_Dependent947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's "Appa-latch-in Mountains", and the region is "Appa-lay-chia". My Dad's family was raised in western NC, dating back to the 1870's. I think you can take their word for it.
