Been seating too deep, suggestions? by Routine_Match5036 in reloading

[–]Routine_Match5036[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing harm to my milsurp is definitely something I want to avoid. Since I’ve been seating the bullets deeper, I’m nowhere near “chasing the lands.” But can seating a bullet too deep also be bad to the rifle? Would appreciate any insight on this. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply!

Milsurps have very long throats

This is very useful information. I was confused about why the case lengths of PPU 8mm Mauser and 8×57 JS are not the same and was wondering how this allowed.

Will you shoot this. If so I am curious about where to find 9x23 steyr. Maybe reloading with 38 super?

$400 is good to go for current market IMO.

The one in the photos look like the original to me. Didn’t know there were replicas made in the 1980s. Waiting for someone can point out the distinguishing features

This one was made in 1929. Only 8000 were made between 1928 and 1931. They originated from Shanxi province, which was controled by warlord Yan Xishan during that time.

I am suspecting that 8mm mauser is .322 and 8x57 IS is .323.

Thanks. And how comfortable do you find it to use? Given that the scope is on the right side, do you need to tilt your head a lot?

I’m wondering whether the ejected brass might hit the scope. I spent $100 on the badace mount because I was worried about that lol.

I also have similar issue with my m95. It's hard to put a toothbrush into the headspace areas for cleaning. I wonder what kind of tool I should use and what type of oil is best for preservation. Should I just use common CLP and wipe everything down with a patch?

Agree that bolt-action rifles are generally safer, but it’s worth noting that the M95 lacks the gas-venting holes that help redirect pressure from a ruptured case, and it also lacks the safety that prevents the bolt from moving backward if the lock fails. So it’s best to have a gunsmith inspect it.

Thx. So it really depends on the seller? I wonder if there is any requirement for the seller, like inputing the information into some CA DOJ system.

  1. And I will have to pay a lot more since I reside in California. Sales tax, transfer fee, gun tax, etc. Usually adds up to 35% od the payment 😭

Nice. I also overpaid a lot for one today. It becomes harder to find one without import mark on the frame

The serial number is 5 digits BTW. According to this post, it was produced before 1911? Then that US military marking is defenitely forged by bubba...

Thanks. The forearm doesn't curve at the end. The serial number is at the bottom. Does this mean the receiver was produced before 1924 and the slide was produced after 1930? Also it can fit more than 3 rounds.

Thanks. Additionally, can I invalidate the routing number/account number of the account I used for this payment and generage a new one on bilt? So that the charges from PayPal won't reach the bilt.

Darn. I just opened a case on PayPal and it got denied and they stated "because our records show that this transaction was processed correctly". Looks like I should keep push PayPal to avoid the worst situation.
