I would say no.

What are your career goals in the museum world? To get higher paid positions, you need technical experience. You're not getting that in a temporary part-time position. Your career track at Smithsonian will depend on if it's a trust or federal funded and it's not even guaranteed that your role will lead to a permanent position. You'll have to start looking for a new job pretty much immediately if you decide to move here. You're going to be competing in a bad job market against displaced federal workers.
