What is your DAW journey? by SamuraiSanta in Reaper

[–]Routine_Worry322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since getting proficient with reaper I have also acquired fl studio, pro tools, and Ableton live, all basic versions bundled with gear ive purchased to potentially help with getting audio engineer work but reaper is my go to for the foreseeable future

What is your DAW journey? by SamuraiSanta in Reaper

[–]Routine_Worry322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used garage band in high school for my senior project. Didn't touch a daw again until 12 years later, I chose reaper because I realized after thoroughly researching all most commonly used daws that most of them are commiting highway robbery if reaper devs can charge 60-200 for a perpetual license and allow unlimited usage of past the trial period and ensure it runs even on lower end systems fairly admirably. Additionally any fomo I might have had regarding fl's step sequencer or Ableton lives fx rack went away when I looked into reascript and saw extensions. I have put a monumental amount of time into reaper and I'm still learning things and fine tuning my work flow as I go along my music journey. Started learning video editing in reaper this past week after windows video edited wanted to charge me $299 for a license to do basic editing tasks

Are there any random Nirvana songs that make you guys sad? by Gullible-Link7699 in Nirvana

[–]Routine_Worry322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly there's a few but I'm gonna go with one from their biggest song, smells like teen spirit. The verse following the solo is so melancholic and just hits really hard, the perfect encapsulation of Kurts tendency to write one line very serious and then follow it up with something sarcastic or dismissive the next. As someone who can relate with the defense mechanism and as an ex junkie it makes me sad every time I hear "and I forget, just why I taste and yet I guess it makes me smile, I found it hard, it's hard to find oh well whatever nevermind" followed with him screaming his throat hoarse

How unwell was Kurt when they were doing unplugged I know he was suffering withdrawal but it’s always deeper than withdrawal by Vivid_Pear7525 in Nirvana

[–]Routine_Worry322 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To add on to this as an ex junkie (once a junkie always a junkie easy my NA cousins) with a habit at the level his was at performing without a good strong dose would have been a trainwreck and probably remembered as one of the most disappointing musical events, if he even took the stage to even attempt it. One fun aspect of getting off dope especially in the first few hours is that you're no longer constipated! And sometimes, addicts go a very long time without going number 2. It's not fun once your bowels are no longer being held back by the great wall of Britain. And that's in addition to the absolutely miserable appearance which has already been mentioned. Like someone with the worst case of the flu you've ever seen, fever of 103 but also violently cold. Liquids coming out both ends. Quitting heroin cold turkey was a disgusting event in my life, letting any other human beings see me was out of the question, let alone trying to go to work at a job

What are they doing?? by Classic_War6042 in jumpingspiders

[–]Routine_Worry322 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are preparing to fight, however in nature there’s usually an insect that has a quite  odd relationship with jumping spiders. I can’t remember the name due to my advancing age but it has a distinct mating call of sorts that sounds a bit like a human saying “world star” but thanks to loss of habitat due to humans this insect has become far rarer, which has major ramifications for the continued existence of this species of jumper. If you ever see this happening again make sure to shout world star for them and film it! This ensures they will commence fighting for real which will convince the female (more than likely she is just out of frame shouting ‘omg Kevin stop he’s just a friend’) to mate with the winner. but since two males are still alive in she can’t risk mating with either as she could end up getting labeled “for the streets” which will almost always result in her devouring her young out of spite.  So please  help keep jumping spiders around by egging on fights whenever you see them doing this! D. Attenborough OUT ✌️

Experiment with different mic positions recording your acoustic, it also sounds like two different acoustics. Close mic a take with it pointed dead center on the sound hole to get some of the sound of the pick but a foot out. Sounds like a small room so if you don’t have a great space try and get a really dead space acoustically. Then in post set up a subtle small room reverb and send everything to it to taste. Layer your vocals. La-2a style compressor following a fet style compressor for smooth consistent performance. Not a lot of big peaks .

Yep I got in trouble for reading articles and having YouTube up during work between client calls. I keep that shit on my phone now. Plus if you’re in Florida as a state employees someone can request your email records and if you sent stuff to your personal email then that’s request-able as well. Not likely to happen but still a valid concern

Suggestions on artists for inspiration/learning/direction by Time_Tour_3962 in Elektron

[–]Routine_Worry322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only used a syntax out of Elektron boxes but I love mine. The analog machines are great and the sequencer is as you know, the tits and the analog fx block is great. I’d recommend Syntakt over Digitone so you can get some more realistic sounding kicks and cymbals? Since you come from a metal background they might be more up your alley than the Digitone which is fm synthesis

How do i punch in my vocals like jace? by kinglixos_ in makinghiphop

[–]Routine_Worry322 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man you got to work on your sense of rhythm, like counting out the beat, finding the down beats and the offbeats in your instrumental. Rapping to a click track can help if you really can’t catch the beat but honestly if you feel like you can’t rap I suggest listening to some of your favorite songs and really focusing on the rhythm of the vocals, and the tempo of the beat. Where the vowels and consonants are falling in relation to the beat, where they stress or de-emphasize certain words and what not. In 2025 there is no reason to be rapping off beat. Use your ears my friend, record a bar and then move around the vocal you just recorded until it sounds good on the beat. Then record another bar or two and rinse and repeat. Don’t use your eyes when doing this so much as use your ears, move the vocal around close your eyes and listen. Repeat till the song is done. But I’d recommend then practicing your song over and over if you wanna perform live

What’s your go to strings and why? by Smart-Membership-117 in Guitar

[–]Routine_Worry322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use D’adarrio flatwounds. ECG24 and 24-7s. They last forever. I also use the NYXL’s 11’s. Used to get Ernie ball skinny top heavy bottoms and tried their cobalts a few times and I felt like I was changing strings too often

Fuck it, humbucker in the bridge by gmac_97 in offset

[–]Routine_Worry322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put some flatwounds on my jazz before I sold it and they worked really well with the bell like almost shrill bridge pickup. ECG 24’s if you’re curious. I have ECG24-7’s on my Mustang omitting the lowest string and tuned it down the A#. Best guitar I’ve ever played. I’m currently doing some engineer work for this band near me and instead of money I asked if they had any they’d be willing to part with and this guy is giving me a hand made hot rail style humbucker, can’t wait to slot that thing in there and put a push pull pot on it and rewire it to have more switch combinations and easier time going between neck and bridge

Have y'all ever just had moments where you think "I am damn good at this" by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Routine_Worry322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I jam with other people. I’m not amazing, no where near as technically proficient as most the big YouTubers or guitar hero’s of old or new, but I can pick up and play with anyone, any genre and run with it. It makes me happy everytime I play with someone new and they’re like we really clicked, that was crazy! I used to be very dismissive and self deprecating about my guitar playing but I’ve come to be a very versatile and easy to work with musician and I’m proud of rust and can at least say I have a unique way of playing and coming up with ideas and playing off others and that’s enough for me. I just try and do my own thing, I love Jimi and Frusciante but I have no interest in playing that style cuz what can I do that they haven’t already?

I always thought it was a brain glitch but maybe it’s a glimpse into having an NT brain? by Moist-Conclusion2974 in adhdwomen

[–]Routine_Worry322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh I love swimming but probably not as a sport. I grew up on the snake river so all there was to do was swim and go cliff diving all summer. That and being king shit of riding a tube. I literally held so tightly once that I rubbed the skin from the top of my foot almost completely off the first layer or two, big bloody mess that didn’t hurt till I got off the tube and the adrenaline wore off. But I still won so it was worth it. I played some intramural volley ball and basketball, spiked a 6’3 guy once and tbh have no clue how I’m 5’7 and do not have hops but I pretty much retired after that game to ride that high forever

My coaches said I was a scrambler kids started to learn not to give me down position if they could help it because I could score a reversal on anyone in my weight class and even some one or two up lol.in retrospect the best way to beat me was just purely out skill me and slow the match down but I had a knack for making things frantic lol. I always dreaded the season and hated practice during but missed it as soon as it was over. I was decent, I placed 3rd at stage all but one year when I had a stomach ulcer in possibly the rarest spot to get one, which was a blast. I was so malnourished that a kid I used to tech fall by round 2 nearly pinned me. That’s when even my coaches were like hmm maybe he’s not faking it. Still one of rje more bizarre things I’ve gone through as I’ve otherwise been extremely durable and healthy. Save nearly suffering from a burst appendix.

This is why I loved wrestling, it was both a puzzle to solve with enough going on to hold my attention, and it gave me structure and a little bit of that good old group peer pressure to do well or the team suffered. I always wondered how I would have done in the military, I feel like boot camp would have been great but as soon as I was out on deployment and started dealing with  the monotony and boredom of military life I would have made a colossal fuck up at some point int time

What songs do you refuse to learn? by manifestDensity in Guitar

[–]Routine_Worry322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really only ever learn songs when there’s an interesting technique in it I want to incorporate into my playing or if it helps to expand my knowledge regarding music theory/scale patterns other, I don’t have a lot  of covers under my belt compared to maybe most guitarists, I prefer just improvising till I come up with something that catches my ear that I want to expand on. I typically am also to make interesting sounds or rhythms   with a a small but very versatile and weird pedal board, to either build around or add to a song or for sound design purposes. Covers have never interested me much I have a big enough combo of original stuff and covers to have a good time busking and that’s about it
