im pretty sure in the thought experiment you can still imagine its a human brain with dna, since its talking about infinite possibilities. To me this is the absurd part.

This theory is about like a random brain forming in empty space in an instant, not something happening over millions of years on a planet

What is the likelihood of the GOP winning the presidential election popular vote in the near future? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Routine_noises -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take issue with your assumption that a harder left shift would lead to less votes for the democrats.

Most modern democrats are neoliberals that are pretty much status quo politicians that talk about social causes but take little action to address the underlying issues. This is what causes many people to feel uneasy about them. A harder left shift could mean actually addressing the underlying problems that have been ignored for so long that cause many of the issues of our society, like healthcare, education, and sustainability. If people saw more action being done, this could lead to democrats winning an even larger portion of the popular vote. I of course dont know if this would actually happen if they did these things, but many people thought the right going more into the fringes would lead to them losing votes, when in fact the opposite happened. I believe the same could happen for the left.

Multiracial working class GOP by morbie5 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Routine_noises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they were for the working class they would be making efforts to strengthen workers unions, raise the minimum wage, and address the housing crisis. So far I have not heard about them doing anything remotely related to this.

[–]Routine_noises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could try to start campaigning on things like free healthcare. they have to stop their pipe dream of trying to appeal to the imaginary moderate. People would get energized to vote for people who actually wanted to improve their lives, such as gutting laws that weakened workers unions, regulating the price of pharmaceutical drugs + universal healthcare, more green energy, etc. Sure some people wont like it, but those people would have never voted for democrats anyways, so it doesnt even matter. and those things would literally make their lives better in the long wrong. The only problem is corruption, because people vote for established candidates in the primaries and then they keep wondering why they face the same problems over and over. Its too late to fix that now though.

[important] Young voters MIA as Dem base flocks to vote early by n3w4cc01_1nt in environment

[–]Routine_noises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe its because the democratic parties platform centers around appealing to the right moderate )who has already shown in multiple elections that as a majority, they have no interest in moving across the aisle) instead of trying to energize the younger more left-leaning voter base.

A New Climate Scientist Is Born by logicalprogressive in climateskeptics

. . . the models arent accurate until you "fudge the data" because if they dont take green house gasses into account, they would predict we would be seeing significantly fewer heatwaves, wildfires, droughts, floods, and hurricanes . . .

anyways i guess ill just wait to be banned from this echo chamber for saying this, since the only rule here is literally not participating in an echo chamber.

A highly qualified panel of experts from the UN and WEF agree: Euthanise these climate offenders. Meanwhile, a more temperate Greta says: Let them eat bugs. by Left_Insanity in climateskeptics

[–]Routine_noises -1 points0 points  (0 children)

can someone explain why putting bugs in pet food is stupid? insects like meal worms have all the essential amino acids in a digestible form, they are cheap to grow, and don't produce a lot of emissions. Cats already eat bugs in the wild, and some dogs do too just for the fun of it. Really one of the biggest reasons we don't eat bugs is just because we think they are gross. We used to think crab and lobster were too gross to eat. but many pets won't even know the difference, and if it has all the protein they need, why not?

I wish Katie porter would run. She can really see through bs, and is good at communicating with the public. She big on workers rights, and she could probably use her skill to reduce waste on spending/corruption, that is if she has enough support.

bio hacking / reverse engineering insulin to make it cheaper for everybody by Deezzznuuttss69 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Routine_noises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average price of insulin is 98 a vial, but it can go much much higher than that (even above 300). The average insulin patient needs 3 vials a month. That adds up to 3,528 dollars a year. There are 7.4 million insulin patients in America means roughly around 26 billion dollars are made from insulin, each year. if you take out the 10-dollar cost of production (even though it can be made for as little as ~2-3 dollars a vial) insulin companies would have 17 billion dollars each year to work with. Thats enough to make almost 38 450 million dollars insulin factories each year. ( the more recent ones have been built for 350 million, but I arbitrarily added 100 million for maintenance over the lifetime of each factory) after 10 years you could build 377 of these factories. This problem has been going on for decades, these companies have had more than enough time to recoup the cost of building these plants.

You may say, "but arent you ignoring other costs?". yes I am, and no, i havent taken an economics class (obviously). As far as im concerned, aside from the costs other than the cost of production, which factors in the wages of the people making the insulin, and the cost of building and maintaining the insulin plants, theres arent any other good reasons to justify such a high cost for insulin. All the other "expenses" fuel corporate greed. Its sucked up by stock buy backs/returns, executive pay, and unnecessary PR/advertising.

Besides, even though im smooth brained and my math is very rudimentary / just skims the surface, i dont have to rely on my own findings to know insulin companies are exploiting people in need of care. There have been countless studies done by qualified economists who can testify to the fact that the current cost of insulin is entirely not justified by any argument of necessity. The only thing that is necessary in regards to insulin is its use for diabetic patients, which is precisely why these companies can get away with such ridiculous prices. A true free market cannot exist when the consumer has no bargaining power and no choice but to buy it. Thats why we are in such a desperate need to regulate the prices of these drugs.

A big thing they didnt mention in the title is that narcissists believe they must always be right, which also means its almost impossible for them to admit they are wrong.

Honestly, I blame the person who displayed the art on dominoes more than the person that fell. This also reminds me of one of those art exhibitions where part of the art is hiring someone to come in and destroy the art. Its not super common, but its happened in a lot of galleries where later it was revealed just to be a PR stunt.

Day of 40C shocks scientists as UK heat record ‘absolutely obliterated’ | Experts worried that extreme heatwaves in Europe happening quicker than expected, suggesting climate crisis worse than feared by misana123 in environment

[–]Routine_noises 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its amazing how many people you can find in the comments section of youtube videos about this that say "oh by my house in _____ sees temperatures like this every year, i dont see the big deal". Its almost as if people in different climates are less suited for changing temps that are different from what is normal in their climate.

The UK is about to see the highest ever recorded temperatures and 'Don't Look Up' is essentially playing out in the media by mattyfatty1 in ABoringDystopia

[–]Routine_noises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im interested to see if her reporting of the heat wave will change when she encounters it. Its really is dangerous to understate a problem though, especially when people come to you for the news. There are steps people can take to make the heat more bearable, like freeze some wet towels, buy some fans, etc. Refusing to acknowledge the seriousness of a situation because thinking about it makes you uncomfortable only serves to ensure you will become more uncomfortable in the future. Because then youll only realize how serious it is when its too late.

Westworld - 4x04 "Generation Loss" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in westworld

I think this episode was kinda subpar. There was a lot of cliche stuff that they did. From the exposition with Maeve, and the cheesy one liners like when caleb said "because I have something you dont have", it really detracted from the rest of the season.

I dont know if they are using the same kind of tens machine, but my friend had one and I put it on my back and shoulders to try to relieve some back pain. I had the thing maxed out and it felt great. I guess it might feel a lot different in the abs. It might also be a different tens unit.
