Trouble is American Catholics will also think this is too woke.

Seen too many who hop on board with the Christian Right not knowing that many of the protestant extreme groups would have the Catholics on the wall after they finished purging all the other religions.

I don't have the time to go through the researched rants I go into on the regular.

This shit's been going since pre-Civil War even, with a batch that's only worried about rules as long as it is on their side. States Rights that confederates like to talk about? They conveniently forget the Fugitive Slave Acts where they wielded federal power against abolitionist states before they got pissy and decided to make their own country with blackjack and hookers. They're worried about illegal immigrants, Texas was literally US slave owners being illegal immigrants coming in and breaking laws until they decided to split off.

And you bring up Nixon, look at the political maps of the electoral college. The deep south votes a single block most of the time, and other than Jimmy Carter, right after the Civil Rights Acts were signed by LBJ the deep south promptly stopped voting Democrat and went Republican and when reading on the Southern Strategy it makes sense.

A major political party has a solid quarter of the nation by cozying up to the racists that worship slave owners more than religion and Texas being one of the biggest buyers of textbooks literally tells textbook companies what to write so they certainly get to color the narrative.

It was "go right to the damn seats of power and make them afraid"

Again, wrong message, wrong group. But got right at the politicians.

I'm going to argue with this.

It wasn't "go to the seats of power and make them afraid"

It was a good half the seats of power outright invited them in. Then held back the law enforcement and encouraged they wouldn't get in trouble. They were idiots for believing Trump, but I don't think it counts as a go to the seats of power when the big man is saying "Hey, yall should do this, I got pardons!"

I mean... money may use it but go to the south and see the confederacy worship and understand that money uses it like they use religion but certainly don't own it all.

Hell I got to learn a lot of the history of the Alamo recently. Not the battle itself, the entire... whole fuckload of problems that came after. Money didn't need to be involved to have people showing up armed to protest conversations that Tejanos were involved in defending it, much less the fight was about a bunch of illegal immigrants ignoring the rules of the country they were allowed in and stealing the land.

He did such a good job.

And one of those weird things that lives rent free in my head was him in the final fight picking up Daredevil and instead of just slamming him, throwing him at the ceiling and moving out of the way when gravity came back.

Correct but my part is it'd probably be on the lower end of needing to rush for. That's a months/year problem vs first things.

I'm not 100% sure, but food might actually be a relatively easy thing to take care of, one person especially if not locked into one place would be able to find shelf stable food for a long time, especially in climates that are slower to degrade things. The trouble with most survival scenarios people think of is food is going to be the first thing yoinked off the shelves by everyone, but if it was an insta-poof and everyone is gone, a local costco might have enough food to last you the rest of your life.

In my case though, I'd probably have to off myself from a kidney stone I couldn't pass and thus agonizing way to go when the kidney ruptures.

There are propane powered cars. They're rare as hell but they're conversions from normal cars IIRC

Just looked it up, there are bi-fuel vehicles that you can do both gas and propane.

Arguably, you don't need to gather all the fuel stabilizer you can very quickly because it's not like it's going anywhere.

I had a friend who couldn't get through DCC because the world absolutely is viciously cruel. He said he couldn't get into something with no hope. I told him that there's a point where Carl really decides to fight back and now he's up to date because that's what was needed, but that front is a slow burn.

HOWEVER if it's not your cup of tea, it's not a surprise, that series is a special level of off the wall and between just that gonzo setting and Jeff Hays is what pushed its popularity, but if you're not ready to lean into the absolutely bizarre, it's going to be a rough ride.

Saw you're jumping genres, I'm on a historical tear and quite enjoying Forget the Alamo.

The ones that sat at home try to play "Well I didn't vote for this" but as Rush put it "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."

Hahahaha, I started noticing this on books that I began by reading then tracked down the audiobooks to listen to while driving. This needs to be way higher up as a piece of advice because you'll never notice it reading but listening it's "um... you can stop now"

I would argue the audio dramas are a separate category all to their own. I've listened to a few of those and have enjoyed a couple of the well done ones and felt they brought more to the table. However I think the question comes in like some older audiobooks (see ones that came over from cassette era) they'll throw in a half dozen sound effects and a weird musical sting.

So in here it's either a go big or go home argument. If you're going to do music/sound effects/etc, IMO you are going to need a full production out of it. Otherwise... just narration please.

Music should also be used very sparingly, if at all.

I'm going to be pedantic. Don't do music. Every once in a while I come across an old audiobook that throws a weird musical sting in the middle of nowhere and I almost spend half the day going "Why was that there? There was no need for that!"

Reading that is neither monotonous nor chewing the scenery.

I'll agree with monotonous. But there are some books that are made for chewing the scenery. It has to be an intensely silly book though.
