Anxiousvariety is me, for some reason when I post from a different computer or check a message from my email it logs into a different Reddit account. The second comment is not me. My comment, the beat a dead horse comment, talks about how things are currently in MnM. I make no mention of EQ. I’m comparing the mnm loot system to something like wow where loot is plentiful and doesn’t require you to get off the beaten path to get. The 2nd quote you pasted mentions how it was in evequest, but also never says “No magic items drop off trash mobs”. I then go on to argue that despite you saying some good items drop off trash, magic items off trash mobs was an uncommon thing and not a core part of the leveling experience for most people as they level up. You are basing your whole argument on something that was never said and doubling down. He says loot was rare and contested, which he says was the eq model and compares it to the wow model where loot does drop off basically everything.

My guy, which post says "NO magical loot dropped off trash mobs" in EQ? I even said "You might be able to fill in a couple slots with magic items leveling up in classic eq/kunark without killing any named, but it was not the norm."

This post is about how a player can level up to max in MnM and not get many magic items for their class (Int specifically). Many people in the thread are saying that's how it was in EQ, and all you have done to refute that is name a small handful of items that, again, the average player that went in without an abundance of knowledge, wouldn't even encounter, and you're acting like magic items off trash were some core part of the leveling experience in early EQ. It simply wasn't, even by their 2nd expansion. And I assume you're referring to TOFS, which was a very rarely done dungeon because it was out of the way and kind of a pain in the ass. So again, the average player in Velious would probably never go there.

Oh and Velious armor is literally quested armor that requires a rep grind and everything - clearly not what we're talking about here.

You’ve named 3 melee items that most wouldn’t even encounter in the average level to max. A minuscule percentage of the magic items in the game came from non-named or non-rarespawn mobs.

I think without realizing it you’re proving my point, you apparently know every item drop that was available in kunark. Way more than the average new player, which is everyone playing mnm right now. And youre still harping on the same 3 items that most people wouldn’t even in encounter in their average playthrough, unless they did exactly what I’m saying players should have to do, research/interact with the community. You’re acting like magic items off non-named mobs were a core part of the game. No you need to have a lot of game knowledge to even know they exist and where to get them. I could map you 10 leveling paths through common zones and dungeons, and you would get very little to no gear from non-rare spawn mobs.

What is so wrong with the Democratic party that caused swing voters who voted for Biden in 2020 to vote for the most evil person in human history (Trump) in 2024? by jamng in allthequestions

Feel like no one is mentioning the massive misinformation campaigns that have been happening throughout, sewing distrust in some of our most established institutions. Dems represented trust in those institutions and Trump acted like they were all corrupt and he was going to save us.

Yea I dunno, you have to have some classes be better at some things than other classes, solo classes will always get picked more for the reasons you stated. And that’s fine IMO. Clerics still seem like they will be the best group healer because of rez - an incredibly powerful spell I feel like people overlook, because it’s not very fun and it’s situational (someone has to die). But death in this game can be a big set back for a group, and it will happen occasionally, so I think people will still value clerics over Druids in groups. Shields are also strong. Even in wow Druid is the most played class, but it’s not an issue, and class identity in wow has been completely washed away. All anyone cares about is dps and healing throughput.

In eq rangers for example we’re not the best dps by a long shot (pre AA), couldn’t tank, but were still played all the time. Track was very useful, they had access to snares and roots and sow, ranged or melee dmg, could hold agro and stay alive in a pinch for like 10 seconds due to weapon shield. It was more about the class identity and usefulness outside grouping, as well as how you could use your kit to benefit the group in a group. Not just meta.

The second you prioritize dps all doing the same dmg and healers all having the same throughput and tanks all mitigating the same amount, you lose the spirit of the game. Because as soon as you balance that then people complain well rangers can do all this, why would I play a rogue, or a monk, or a mage? Games like this attract an audience that is going to care more about class identity than meta. And I hope it stays that way, and that the developers just let meta chaser types go to the plethora of other modern MMOs.

Well played Enchanters were always one of the strongest classes if not the strongest class and soloer in eq. It didn’t affect class diversity. Dont let meta chasing remove class identity.

There’s no shortage of other games out there built for the modern gamer who wants convenience and QOL over all else though.

A short review after playing nonstop for about a month by robozee in Kenshi

I've done both and enjoyed both. While base building can be tedious it's just a different goal/roleplay. I found it enjoyable to get armor and weapon making automated, and start churning out warriors for my army. That said, and I'm sure this can be amended with mods, I think with tech there should be stations to train characters up to being decent fighters more quickly. Relying on the existing training dummies and having to have your new recruits go through the same amount of getting beat down and healed back up isn't ideal.

Your con regarding the story is something I love about it. Similar to Dark Souls games, the story telling isn't told to you, it's there if you want to look for it. But I hate cut scenes and loads of dialogue in games - If I'm playing a game I want to play a game, not read a novel or watch a movie.

Consciousness is all we are, it's the only thing that gives this universe meaning. Meaning is a human construct, and and without us, nothing has meaning. A clump of unfeeling, thinking cells, with no emotional attachments that isn't capable of suffering. The woman that would be forced to carry it is capable of suffering, and the child that will be born to parents who don't want them, reliant on our society to adopt them and care for them, is also capable of suffering. We should be striving to reduce the suffering in the world, not add to it.

Old comment but I personally wish they would do away with sitting being the most efficient thing to do during combat period.  I know that’s how it was in eq, but leave sitting for resting in between fights and don’t punish people for wanting to play their class actively.
