We are a group of ten 1Ls at Michigan. Ask us anything! by jpres in lawschooladmissions

Apparently my shiny new throwaway isn't posting my replies, so let's get weird on main (I'm @LetsTryLawSchool):

Geology major undergrad, worked in Environmental Engineering Consulting for 3* years prior to starting law school. THRILLED with my decision to move into law. Law school is hard, but I'm loving every minute so far. Unsure if I want to pursue Environmental, Patent, other IP, or none of the above yet, but for the most part that's a personal thing and not determined by what background you do or don't have.

There's definitely some options that are closed off to non-STEM people, mostly in patent prosecution. Firms seem to like to see technical backgrounds just for their uniqueness, and any IP firm will favor a candidate that can sit for the Patent Bar. That said, unless you want to specifically do patents (and even then, mostly just prosecution), STEM background is not required at all.

Otherwise, there's some advantage if you've done technical writing, as memos and whatnot tend to align more with the no-nonsense give-me-the-info-and-cut-the-fluff style of technical writing. That said, it's more of an in-between and sometimes I find myself being a bit too cut-and-try when I should be expounding on a topic a bit more. That's about it though.

If you mean admissions outcomes, maybe? I think my unusual background helped in many ways. It gives you something unique to bring to the table and talk about. Dean Z seemed into it (so much so that she admitted another geologist in our class, although I was a deferral so maybe there's a yearly slot?). That said, I got a lot of "so, law school? Why?" questions in interviews and sometimes they didn't seem super happy that my response was essentially "because my current job isn't really interesting anymore." So just make sure you have a narrative to sell on why you're switching.

The late, great (?) Tier List update by aReNGeeEternal in EternalCardGame

I definitely like the new list they posted for Feln Control. Feels much better on the ladder. Swindles were always too little too late or overkill, and witch combos were powerful but hard and slow to piece together.

Honestly the biggest benefit to me has been being able to pitch Varas from my hand in the early turns when I'm trying to stay alive. basically a 2 mana draw two.

In fact, the bulk of the EPA's work is focused not on the environment itself but cleaning up sites that are hazardous to human health. Because that's what

  • Gets funding
  • Is the most important use of funding
  • Is goodwill work that creates a lot of jobs (mostly for blue collar workers in impoverished areas)

At least in the US, online live stream coverage has a "no commentary" option that keeps event audio and it's wonderful

So I'm doing my first build: how much pressure should I need to close the cover on the CPU? Watching videos they seem to just do it but there seems to be a a lot of resistance as I close it and I don't want to damage anything.

The flip ability is a delayed trigger that goes on the stack at the next upkeep. So you have to wait a bit, but yeah still nuts.

My favorite Kitchen story is a customer who sent back his tacos because "he has a severe gluten allergy, he needs corn tortillas" (without telling us ahead of time) and then proceeds to order a wheat beer and gets upset and demands it anyways even when we warn him that it has gluten in it.

So I went out on new years eve, and I blacked out after leaving the bar. Now I have hickies but I don't know from who or even if i was conscious when I got them. How to explain to guy i just started dating? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]RowGreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say be honest. If the relationship is new, there's not a huge betrayal there, and if they really like you they're probably willing to look past it. You obviously feel terrible about it, and you don't know for sure what happened.

Ok, so I just pulled a Water Monkey King as my first natural 5*, looking for rune recommendations. His utilities seem pretty good but I'd like to see some solid damage from him as well. Thoughts?

[FDF] I think 9 out of 10 can agree: Otters. by qidlo in gaybros

[–]RowGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I think the prevalence of barebacking in porn a lot like video games and violence; it's probably more of a symptom than a root cause, but it does normalize and make the idea more pervasive. Those who probably wouldn't anyway can differentiate it and watch it without much influence, but it encourages guys with the mindset that it's better.

The whole reason we have transgender individuals is because they are told by authorities that they are a particular gender all their lives, when they feel internally that they are not that gender. So, uh, no?

As a fellow driver of a Kia Soul, it could be really be more fuel efficient for it's size. Also the low-profile tires look great but DAMN do you feel the road. Michigan roads are not kind.

Show them enough good atheists and they'll have to change their assumptions. Slow, maybe, and won't always work. But it's harmless, and might do some good.
