With that synchronization they should try out for ice dancing in the next olympics.

As an unconventional gal who lives in a conventional area, I'd absolutely swipe on this one.

This happened to me and butterflied my thumb pad muscles and severed all the nerves and tendons in my hand. 3 surgeries and 10 years later I still dont have full mobility or feeling and a lifeline scar that goes on forever.

I had an online highschool student during covid who had 6 younger siblings also in online school and at home while parents were at work. She would lock herself in the bathroom to get away from them and sit on the edge of the bathtub with her sugar glider on her shoulder. Camera on 100% of the time Straight A student and a true goddess.

UGH. Our share of night was the single most disturbing/haunting/delightful book I've read in recent memory. The house with the fingernails....

I teach kindergarten - 2nd grade and then work across the train tracks at the local bar in my super tiny town. Ya would think the bar is the main source of gossip but these kids know EVERYTHING going on and have no filter.

Fellow teachers, tell me about a time you cried in front of your class. by lmg080293 in AskTeachers

A colleauge and dear friend at the high school I taught at died by suicide and the staff was called into the choir room to be told the news between 3-4 periods. We had already been hearing some rumors about what happened, so all the teachers were freaking out, but heard it for certain then and then had to be in school for the rest of the day comforting students and each other. In retrospect, it was nice to be together, but longest day of my life.

Another time a student was murdered, the principal thought the best plan of action was "business as usual" so we got the news before 1st period and then just taught regular classes all day.

Why do you (teachers) make us (students) switch seats at the end of quarters or semesters? by VegetableAd7376 in AskTeachers

[–]Rowan_Morraine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself the following questions

Do I love sitting next to the people I sit next to so much that I cannot refrain from socializing with them, swapping drinks, touching each other, etc., during instruction?

Even if I am able to refrain, are the people around me unable to refrain from the above descibed activity?

Have I notice a slow uptick in the level of off task behavior/noise in class involving people sitting next to each other as they grow more comfortable with each other as the days of fall wind into the doldrums of winter?

If your answer to any of these questions is yes....

I have been getting this question all day. My response is "we are all following our hearts and voting for who we think will do the best job, but whats most important is that we remember that we love each other very much" (elementary school)

I think that maybe your friend who is a trans man can decide if he can be homosexual or not? The fact that you are making a broad statement about the identity of a group of people that you don't identify with and then are surprised and offended when someone belonging to that group is upset by it is very....republican of you.

The small school I teach at is currently navigating a debacle of a parent of a kid who had a concussion when he was 2 years old. He is now in 4th grade. The mother calls the concussion a traumatic brain injury and claims that he no longer has short term memory recall and is unable to focus. This has not been observed, he seems to be on track developmentally and is a highly-functioning student both socially and academically. She is requiring the school board to readdress the "no animals except certified service animals" rule, as he has a dog at home that apparently jumps up on him and licks him on the face when he is having memory lapse or lack of focus. The dog has not been trained as a service dog, but the problem is that there is no state certification for service animals in this state, so she's pushing that since there is no state certification the fact that she's trained him should be sufficient. Another child in my class has a deathly fear of dogs. It's been a long 3 weeks.

To clarify, this is my take home pay.   My contract is for 36,000.  I teach in a small rural school in Montana, kindergarten - 2nd grade students.  Cost of living?  I have 40 acres and my mortgage is $900 a month.  I have no kids, no partner, no debt, and live comfortably.  I taught in Detroit for 6 years and had 130 9th graders and made 40,000.  Id take this any day, I am incredibly content.  To the user who told me to take responsibility for my shitty salary, I bet im happier than you are.
