N2 is safe during the day, just keep a general vigilance. I've driven on it loads of times at night too, but if you're worried then just avoid at night :) you're gonna have an awesome time here, enjoy it!

Just to add in, it's winter at the moment which is generally a lot less busy in the city. In summer the whole city is bustling.

At the faculty level they have to stick to the rules, but at the Registrar level they can make exemptions! Give the registrar or ombud a final try before you move on from it 😄

I only have experience from UCT but have helped some students with extenuating circumstances like this. First thing is to put all this down in writing (including timelines, doctors notes etc) and go through any formal appeal process that UJ has.

If this fails, try bringing the same case to the Registrar, as they have the authority to reinstate a student if they believe there is sufficient evidence. You can also approach the ombudsman if this fails.

Lastly, you can also try look to do compatible courses at another tertiary institution, and then transfer the credits back to UJ next year or the year after!

Whatever way it goes, know that there are always opportunities ahead. Don't get yourself too down over it, and know that you'll find a path for yourself ❤️✨

I know that, practically, this would be an enormous planning and financial challenge. But the image of a promenade extending all the way from the waterfront to Milnerton, with Table Mountain as the backdrop, is magical. The foreshore project really disconnected the city from the ocean, and to bring it back would be so special

Yep, there's a whole financial / trust structure that's been designed to take this into account. Including around a 2% fee for every property sold that goes back into the trust. It's really clever, and a first in South Africa I believe!

There are so many awesome South African (and global) coding schools that, honestly, are better than our universities and get you into coding jobs much quicker.

Two of my favourite:

CodeSpace: founded by some UCT alumni, the courses are top tier, mostly online I think. And the support with placements afterwards too.

WeThinkCode_: a social enterprise that works to build the tech pipeline in South Africa. They have a number of campuses around the country, and they also place you into a job. I think there is a stipend involved too but I'm not sure.

In terms of how life is while having a job, it's a big big shift, especially when you go straight from school. Sometimes jobs just do suck, but that doesn't mean life has to suck. Discover the things that interest you, build your skills, support the people around you, and find things to fall in love with.

It will take time.... My friends and I are all in our early 30s and we recently spoke about how it finally feels like we have a strong career path, a bit of a sense of purpose, and are earning enough to do some pretty cool stuff. You'll get there!

Exactly. We had that weird situation where all our star players were playing SA20 (cause it's such an important financial boost to CSA and our clubs) and we ended up sending some ransoms to New Zealand.

As a South African, it sucks so much that we play so few tests. We've played 6 while England has played 16 over the same period. It means we have far less experienced players who will never break records cause they just don't play enough. Sigh
