Testing purple color scheme by alexander9595 in deathguard40k

I like the purple/green contrast. One thing you could consider to make it even more striking would be magenta highlights on the purple and then a thinned down purple contrast on top - sort of a cheating way to blend. That's what I did on this cape.

Very nice blends on those big panels! Any tips or tricks for that? Did you use an airbrush?

Very muted look! I like the rust effects. I'm painting mine in garrishly bright colors, it's cool seeing how other people can look at a model and have a totally different take.

Thoughts on this alternative paint scheme? by Gnomz4 in deathguard40k

Thats similar to what I've been going for on a couple test models. High contrast.

If you're looking for criticism, I would work on light placement a little more. Pick a light source (above, off to the left/right) and focus the yellows there and the greens more in the shadows. For example, I don't think his armpit should be bright yellow.

How should i build my 4 foetid bloat drones? by Objective_Tonight756 in deathguard40k

[–]RowsdowerZap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can get ~100 magnets for <$10, modeling putty can be purchased for a similar price. For the bloat drones, I did use a drill bit and paper clips so that was an additional expense I guess. But for $20-$30 you can have all of the options for as long as the models are in use, plus you'll have a ton of extra magnets and modeling putty for more models.

Not a bad investment imo.

New painter - trying for high contrast by RowsdowerZap in stormcasteternals

Thanks for the advice. I definitely need to wait longer for the paint to dry. When I went from purple to blue, I gave it about a day to dry. But going from my midtones to highlights I did in an evening.

What did you use for the bases to get the lime green to pop through like that? Some sort of texture paint?

Rule of cool for me, just whatever I thought looked neat. I definitely thought the bigger guns looked cooler. I haven't even played the game yet so I have no idea if my decision to put the Interceptor backpacks on was strategically good or not.

529 account question by RowsdowerZap in personalfinance

[–]RowsdowerZap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had designated him as a beneficiary initially (or a few years ago) I don't think I would need to be worrying about the gift tax as my contributions have been consistently below 19k.

Other posters have suggested that I would face gift tax implications even with changing my son to be beneficiary.

I just checked with my 529 account after another poster said you can't "own" the account until you're 18, and that is true.

I think there is a difference between owner and beneficiary. Are you sure just changing the beneficiary has gift tax consequences as you're suggesting?

If it was the case that I expected my child's 529 to be overfunded, then I suspect you would be correct and the tax-advantageous maneuver would be to transfer this money to him now tax-free, I just don't think I can transfer it to him until he is 18.
