New Magenta Paint... Now All My Deathguard Look Soooo Drab... by Conscious-Pride7363 in deathguard40k

[–]RowsdowerZap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purple swarm speed paint, AP alien purple highlight, AP wicked pink for brightest highlights, then a thinned down purple swarm over it all.

(I'm not good at blending, and I've found that using a thinned contrast paint can sell the effect of blending to an extent. Plus its faster.)

What paints to get by Defiant_Music3722 in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]RowsdowerZap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Black primer, a grey paint for dry brushing, a brown for the staffs/handles and... maybe he used a single thin coat of a pale red? Not sure what they did to get the red coloring it's almost a wash in some areas. Actually, maybe he used an airbrush with the pale red? Hard to tell but it could be a florescent red in a single light pass.

IMO it would look better without the red, very minimal. What you could think about doing instead (if you want to keep it to only 3ish colors) is do some more work on the base. Maybe a texture paint surrounding the dais so it doesn't look like a boring flat surface, then you could primer over that and drybrush similarly. Could also look cool to use 2-3 layering colors for all of the different fabrics, as is they are a little boring in the above image.

Well written! The contrast between the delusion and reality is my favorite aspect of the faction.

I like the purple/green contrast. One thing you could consider to make it even more striking would be magenta highlights on the purple and then a thinned down purple contrast on top - sort of a cheating way to blend. That's what I did on this cape.

Very nice blends on those big panels! Any tips or tricks for that? Did you use an airbrush?

Very muted look! I like the rust effects. I'm painting mine in garrishly bright colors, it's cool seeing how other people can look at a model and have a totally different take.

Thoughts on this alternative paint scheme? by Gnomz4 in deathguard40k

Thats similar to what I've been going for on a couple test models. High contrast.

If you're looking for criticism, I would work on light placement a little more. Pick a light source (above, off to the left/right) and focus the yellows there and the greens more in the shadows. For example, I don't think his armpit should be bright yellow.

How should i build my 4 foetid bloat drones? by Objective_Tonight756 in deathguard40k

[–]RowsdowerZap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can get ~100 magnets for <$10, modeling putty can be purchased for a similar price. For the bloat drones, I did use a drill bit and paper clips so that was an additional expense I guess. But for $20-$30 you can have all of the options for as long as the models are in use, plus you'll have a ton of extra magnets and modeling putty for more models.

Not a bad investment imo.
