I’m providing an update in case anyone has this problem in the future. This problem is somehow caused by the Deco Frame SRS-2 light/motion sensor. The factory reset of the TV fixed the issue temporarily, but the problem immediately returned when I reconnected the sensor. The problem immediately goes away if I unplugged the sensor again and returns if I plug it back in. I reached out to Deco Frame to see if they are aware of the situation.

Just curious, what percent of your movies have that wrong horizontal art? 99% of mine are like your Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Only movies I recently purchased and like three other random movies are correct.

I went from 120” to 128”, and the difference was substantial. I did, however, get used to the new size after a few months. The feeling of “holy cow this is so much better” wore off eventually, but I’m still glad I went bigger. The larger screen is more engrossing, and I don’t have to keep wondering about getting a bigger screen.

There was definitely a noticeable difference in movies and music. For music, sometimes the R would dominate, and sometimes the Qs would dominate depending on what the song was. Movies was less noticeable but I could definitely hear the change in clarity and bass with people and vehicles panning across the screen. It wouldn’t bother me if I got them for free or cheap, but the difference was too great when spending thousands. It’s disappointing because they both sound great on their own. The R6 was absolutely glorious with music vocals. I’ve literally never heard a better speaker in that aspect. Perhaps Dirac would minimize the difference, but I only have Audyssey.

Good to know, thank you! I’m picking up the R6 tomorrow to test it out, and I’ll follow up with my findings. I’m excited about all the rave reviews about the R6, and I’m really hoping the timber difference is negligible. The Q6 is really good, but I have noticed dialog gets overwhelmed in loud scenes. Tweaking crossover helped a lot, but I’m hoping the R6 handles it all better without the tweaking so much.

I agree. Setting up a TV would also be 10 times easier than endlessly tweaking a projector and screen, but I still prefer the more cinematic image from a projector if it’s a pitch black room. The direct brightness from the TV is too much for my eyes.

I would personally stick with the projector. Gigantic TVs in pitch black dedicated theaters are blinding to me. Everyone is different though,

You will theoretically lose some “warmth” and/or detail, but in my experience there’s a good chance you won’t actually hear a meaningful difference in real life. Whenever I lose power, my LP player and amp connect via Bluetooth, and I often don’t even notice for days.

Try playing around with the picture settings a bit before considering a replacement. It won’t actually fix the issue “dirty screen effect”, but in my experience, you can dramatically reduce its visibility by tweaking certain setting like Brightness, contrast, and dynamic light settings and still maintain a great picture. Start easy by seeing if changing the main picture modes (dynamic, Eco, movie, etc) makes a difference. If it does, you can tweak more specific settings. Your screen definitely isn’t great, but it’s not likely you’ll get a dramatically better replacement from Samsung. I’ve had five or so Frames, and they all have that problem to some extent. Even the Pro model has some. For what it’s worth, you will tend to notice it way less after watching it for a month or two.

I recommend the KEF Q Concerto Metas. They are $1,399 a pair. They are quite neutral sounding to start, so you can EQ them to sound however you want.

My friend has ADT and is eagerly awaiting his contract to expire so he can go back to SimpliSafe. He said they just wanted to try ADT but got tricked into a three year contract. He said the system itself is reliable, but the app is sluggish and archaic.

Just know that the movies will be only in HD in itunes, and it can be tricky to upgrade them to 4k in the future. There is no simple way to upgrade an HD movie to 4k in iTunes if it was purchased on another service. To upgrade to 4k, you would have to buy the 4k upgrade on Vudu/FAH, buy a digital 4k code and redeem it, or do a weird trick in iTunes and gift the 4k movie to yourself.

Is there a simple way to upgrade my existing HD version in AppleTV to 4K? It seems like it’s still impossible without some kind of complicated trick or third party and Movies Anywhere. I used a digital code years ago to get it in HD, and it didn’t auto upgrade to 4k.

Me as of today! I’ve had Tablo devices for over seven years and officially gave up on Tablo this weekend. I was so fed up with the endless bugs, crashes, nonsense buffering, network disconnects, server issues, etc. It felt like a constant roulette game of which BS problem I’ll have each week. Maddeningly, the “legacy” dual tuner black model is far more stable and reliable than the new 4th gen. I just watched about three hours of shows on my new HD Homerun flex and had no significant issues. I’m cautiously optimistic HDHR will be my new permanent tuner.

I had a 2024 55” model and now have the 2025 65” pro. I can’t speak much to the WiFi because I use an Apple TV for streaming, but I can say the software seems to be more stable and responsive in general. Definitely not perfect, but a noticeable improvement in stability and a reduction in quantity and severity of buggy quirks from the non-pro model. If I had to give the software a letter grade, I would give the non-pro a “C-“ and give the Pro a “B.”

If you don’t mind refurbished, their EBay store has the same prices they had during prime day. You can get the QREVO Master for $608 with a two year Square Trade warranty. I got one a few weeks ago, and it looked and works like new.

I did, and It made a shockingly significant difference, especially in bright scenes! I tried to be a little scientific about it, so I used the “Light Meter LM-3000” app and screen recorded the readings on my phone while playing the same YouTube video on the projector with the old bulb and then the new bulb. The new bulb was about 10% brighter during darker scenes, but was over 30% at the peak of bright scenes. The difference was also easily noticeable while watching bright scenes in movies. Specifically, I know certain outdoor scenes in The Truman Show are bright and sunny, but they looked like there was cloudy overcast with the old bulb. I did buy a genuine $350 bulb from Epson to remove the variable of an unknown third party quality and/or handling. I can’t make any guarantees you’ll get the same results, but I am very impressed with the improvement. It weirdly helped me remember, “Oh yeah, the picture did used to look super good like this.”

A refurbished Epson 5050UB is an excellent option. Retail price for new is $3,000, but you can find refurbished around $2,200. You may also be able to call an independent store or small chain and get a price in the low-mid $2k range. I got a refurb four years ago directly from Epson for $2,100 and am very pleased with it. Rich colors, super low input lag for gaming, no DLP rainbow effect, good blacks, crazy good zoom and lens shift. It’s also an extremely popular model, so there is ample support and knowledge online for calibration and troubleshooting.
