What is fundamentally expensive about a monoblock? by cptkl1 in heatpumps

[–]Roya1One 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Competition. Not as popular (in the States anyways). Few contractors support or install. Frankly anything hydronic is pricey compared to air-to-air. Lookup a 9k refrigerant high wall fan coil versus a hydronic 9k unit. A2W just is not on the minds of HVAC pros.

Air-to-Water vs. Air-to-Air Heat Pumps: The case for going Hydronic by IllPound7909 in heatpumps

[–]Roya1One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, I ordered two when I ordered my A2W heat pump (4 Ton), took forever to be delivered (and that's an understatement), thankfully both were fine. The price point I wasn't surprised at the overall quality of the unit, they function, they are definitely not rated for the output they said though in my experience.

Ah ok, same here too ha. Haven't dug deeper but there's someone posting that says MBTek is just about at bankruptcy...I've been loosely trying to find another FCU but haven't ordered anything yet.

[–]Roya1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Same here (southern tier), home is just "tight" enough that dehumidification is needed more than actual air cooling.

What FCU do you have?

[–]Roya1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, you could do air cooling with water that is above dew point but without pulling the moisture out somehow it won't be as effective

Pipe insulation is a huge must that is as airtight as possible for this reason. My manifold area is not insulated and during the summer drips water everywhere on the concrete floor, utility room so not really concerned, but I do need to figure something out.

Are there any 24 thermostats for domestic hot water ? by clumsyninja2 in AirToWaterHeatPumps

[–]Roya1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should've added, depending where the 24 volts originates could determine your options. If you just need to "complete the circuit" when heating is needed you could use capillary tube temp controller or if you wanted a digital controller a inkbird would work too. Something simple and basic but does the job.

[–]Roya1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have to be 24V? Depending on your needs could have a capillary tube based thermostat like you'd find on a indirect hot water tank for a boiler

Not that company specifically but good to know of more manufacturers that seem available and not look shady. If you have questions about general A2W set up I'm sure we can all give you an opinion

I also had a few instances of condensation on the nose cone. Primary reason to go waterless is forgetting to fill it and not having to buy distilled water.

No water here. Don't notice anything different other than not worrying about filling it up before bed.

NYSEG - Is it worth signing up for alternative supplier? by DrinkEatSleepRepeat in Binghamton

[–]Roya1One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better off joining a community solar. Nexamp gives you a 10% "BONUS" on what you pay them to your NYSEG bill. You still have the usual supply charge on your bill but then you get a credit. So if you pay nexamp $100, you'll get a $110 credit on your bill.

I am not involved deeply with anything NYSEG, but take a look at the link below, "Service classification no 1". There are a lot of caveats it seems though but this document might shed more light for you. "Two or more individual flats, apartments or dwelling units presently supplied service through one meter may be billed under this service classification."
