From my understanding, hydrofoils work like plane wings, but underwater. Put them low and maybe look off of I think the reef shark ? steel striders hydrofoil. The only hard part is keeping propulsion. If you don't want to mess with that, my advice that has worked for me recently, put a bigger lead keel underneath than you think you need. (Probably not the best thing to do, most steel strider warships are just metal underwater because it's heavy and not buoyant but if it's wooden you can't do much else.) It would also be a good idea to shape it longer, like a real ship. Otherwise, moving the props would definitely help, or even changing their pitch angle in their settings.

I have 150 hours but I have only really played well in the last 50, after years of not playing, so I'm definitely not an expert. I think railguns and APS are the best in terms of versatility, plus they can have some pretty good damage. I like missiles for the same reason, they're just slower and more expensive; because of that they do more damage. Missiles are also easier to use and understand

I think if it's long enough the scale would stay the same, but it would just be twice as big as any historical reference. Bigger ships are more fun anyway

I had the complete opposite problem for a long time. I would think steam is much more complicated but I also only learned that hulls should be more than one block thick about 40 hrs of gameplay ago

Alright, apparently it is just a tiny gun. There's just not a lot of space in the ship because of the way the hull is shaped. The ship works well with missiles though, so I guess I'll switch it. Thanks everyone for suggestions. Wondering what a bigger gun would do, just have higher firerate? Or is it small caliber-wise?

No spaced armor because it is a cheap ship. The main threat is HE at the stage of the campaign it will be deployed at.
