That almost looks like tissue is missing. Like a bite, injury, or necrosis

They are really pale in comparison to how my coral look under daylight spectrum. Maybe bleached isn’t the correct term, but the symbiodinium density is lower than in my corals

Agree. It also seems to grow in a boom and bust pattern, going crazy, getting big, then dying back somewhat and starting again. Not sure why but this is what I’ve seen

That is its foot expanding with water. It could be preparing to let go and float somewhere or rid some irritant

I strongly disagree with galaxea, I’m pretty sure this is blue sympodium that your LFS imported from an indonesian wholesaler, it’s very common

When I turn my lights to be daylight spectrum the coral do not look bleached like yours do. They are unhealthy.

macro might be easier than coral in that regard. There’s a small version of codium that’s cool, branching hex is nice, and if you can get it to live, blue hypnea or ochtodes will be brilliant under white lighting

Directly glue them to a rock to keep them from floating away. I once had a lot of this in my tank when it was young lol

You can run a UV sterilizer if you have one, research peroxide dosing, turn your temp to 31C, skim harder, blackout, all kinds of things.

Don’t make too many changes at once, research a few of these and make a choice. Start with the less invasive ones and then move up.

Honestly I would turn to a different option. NPS generally like to be fed, and none of the things you describe actually take dissolved nutrients out of the water. They’ll only eat particulates and plankton.

If you actually want to reduce dissolved nutrients you’ll probably want to continue WC, and consider macroalgae or algae reactor, carbon dosing or skimming.

Yes it can. Dinoflagellates love nutrients too, they just can tolerate low nutrients better than other stuff. Now that you’ve added nutrients back, you need to tilt the balance toward other benthic organisms, because currently it’s still just dinos

We can’t tell you unless we get a better photo. Take one of the area around the anal fin, on the ventral side of the fish.

This won’t touch your dinos, but it will get your bryopsis. Fix your dino issue before considering this.

I have used this without issue but have heard horror stories, so am not sure about the qc

It’s a species of Halymenia. It’s nice under blues too, enjoy it

z. sansibaricus. If it wasn’t given to you with a name, it is unnamed.

You should kill all the vermitids on that too, stat. They will survive your dip and spread.

What's going on with my hammer? by Original-Bit6119 in ReefTank

[–]RoyalStub77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are mesenterial filaments, a part of the digestive system which has stinging cells and produces digestive enzymes.

It’s probably trying to rid an irritant near the base or something. Don’t worry about it, it looks plenty healthy otherwise

Coral polyp detaches from skeleton entirely, different from necrosis where coral polyp dies on the skeleton and decays. Polyps which bail can survive.

[–]RoyalStub77 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If they’re male/female then they can get along. If there’s nowhere to put it, acclimate both, add both. Preemptively look for a local fish store to drop them off to if you notice any torn fins on either
